3 Crown Heights Boys Robbed of Motorized Scooters

Three men approached three teen boys who were riding motorized hoverboards on Eastern Parkway, between Brooklyn and Kingston avenues, in Crown Heights. The suspects asked the boys — ages 14 and 15 — to see the hoverboards; when they refused, the men punched them and took the three scooter-like devices, worth approximately $1,700 in total.

The suspects then fled in a gray minivan eastbound on the Eastern Parkway service road.

The incident occurred at around 9:30pm on October 29, reports DNAinfo.

The scooters, which are surging in popularity, retail for between $200 and $1000.

This is not the first hoverboard robbery reported in Crown Heights. In August, a 24-year-old man was robbed of two of the devices on Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue by a buyer from Craigslist, according to a police report.

In September, a teenager was punched and robbed of one of the devices, worth $350, in the Financial District.

    # 1 is right: all this on the most secured time in CH and while there’s an influx of 5000 more jews! AND no less than on EP between Kingston and Brooklyn!!!!!! right near the Armerie (770) and the makeshift Police station On the corner….

  • to # 3

#3 – what are u talking about? An enclosed community? (Gated) plz explain …

where will it be? and what will be it’s borders? and the rest of the jews will be left out to fend for themselves?

Pretty sure: a) it’s not doable at any cost, and b) the Rebbe would have been against it big time….

I always have the same conversation with my children when they get a new bike/scooter/phone/toy. If someone assaults you to take it, just give it to them! We can always get another one; but we can’t get another you.

You have it, I want, I take it! That has always been these thugs’ motto. Problem is that there arn’t steep enough penalties to deter them from committing these , crimes/thefts. That’s why they are so bold they know chances are they will be let off with only a slap on the wrist, if that.

stealing is bad …stop buying your kids hot items, it not good for them, to buy the latest toy. i so happy to see we have rich kids that have to have everything and you cause the other kids to be jealous.stop it .we are bring up a bunch of spoiled kids .

  • Evergreen? Really?

So the kids can ride around all year with scooters and motor cars etc…?!?

Its sad that they got mugged ,but these electric scooters are a gray area when it comes to being used on the street and sidewalks. so if the police get involved in this case it’s probably going to be for the assault .not the merchandise because if the police want when they see people using the scooters they can confiscate them because they are not street legal and the speed on those things are too high for sidewalks unless you’re going really slow.

    to #6:

Mentioning race or religion in this case “disgusts” you? Really? Do you think Jewish people stole them and rode off in a mini-van afterwards?

    • No Assumptions

What I’m sure #6 means is that it is unfair for us to make ANY assumptions as to who the perps were without any additional information.

Making assumptions like that (saying they were black,) fuels racism and bigotry. Could they have been black? Most likely, especially in this area.
Could they have been Jewish? Unlikely. But the point is we do not know, and it is unfair to pass any judgement without the facts.

We, as Jews, should understand this first-hand with the amount of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel remarks that are unwarranted and unfounded that we witness and are subjected to far too often.

We, the Jewish people, should be “a light unto the nations.” We must take the high road and not stoop to making accusations so hastily.

This new mentality that it’s wrong to go by the odds is sick and perverted. On the contrary, as the old proverb says, when you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras. When you see a rottweiler coming at you, you can’t be certain whether it wants to attack you or whether perhaps it’s friendly and just wants to play with you, and you can’t wait until you are certain. If you are a normal person you will make a snap decision based on the odds, and accept that sometimes it will be wrong. In any one case it’s unlikely to be.

The fact is that black people are overwhelmingly more likely to commit violent crimes than even ordinary white people, let alone than Jewish people. Anyone who ignores that fact is an idiot. So is anyone who assumes every black person is a criminal, or that every crime was committed by a black person; but he is less of an idiot than the first person, and will be wrong less often.
