Shomrim Help Non-Jewish Contractor Nab Thief

A contractor doing work on a Jewish home in Crown Heights was suddenly shocked to discover that a man was stealing valuable tools and equipment from his work van. He confronted the man and demanded that they be returned, but instead the man attacked him with a screwdriver he had just stolen.

The incident occurred this morning at around 9:30am on Carroll Street near New York Ave.

Upon hearing the commotion, several neighbors called Shomrim, who arrived at the scene almost immediately. A call was placed to 911 as well.

The volunteers chased the perpetrator – a middle-aged African-American male – and apprehended him on the corner of Eastern Parkway and New York Ave. Police arrived seconds later and arrested the man, then returned the tools to the grateful contractor.

The non-Jewish contractor was overwhelmed by the assistance he received from the Shomrim volunteers, whom he profusely thanked over and over. “No one would help me, and suddenly you guys came out of nowhere,” he said.

    • Who said they didn't?

And what racial profiling? The thief is a black guy. It is what it is. I just don’t understand all this PC garbage.

    Great job Shomrim!
You make the neighborhood safer for us all.
Thieves and criminals need to know that it doesn’t pay to rob since they’ll be chased and caught.
    Thank you Shomrim.

This guy works extremely hard for his tools to use to make a living to provide for his family! To come out of work to find this strange man in his work truck stealing from him is extremely wrong!!!! I give a lot of credit to the contractor for subduing this individual without inflicting any injury and with the help of Shomrim and the police this situation was handled the right way!
