Shootings Up 38% in Crown Heights in 2014

A gang feud has fueled a 38 percent spike in shootings in Crown Heights and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens amid an overall crime drop of more than 8 percent, the area’s precinct commander said this week.

Deputy Inspector George Fitzgibbon of the 71st Precinct said he’s “really not happy” with 2014’s numbers, despite a drop in the seven major crime categories, which include murder, rape, assault and burglary. There were 1,502 reports of those major crimes in 2014, an 8.2 percent drop from the 1,637 reports in 2013, according to NYPD data.

“I’m sad to say we had 21 shooting incidents in 2013 and 29 in 2014,” he told residents at the precinct’s community council meeting Thursday night.

he said ” “really not happy” with 2014’s numbers” but notice that this did not accompany the pro-active statement of what he’s planning (if) to do something.
Can’t they get some Social Worker or Crime trained specialist on gangs and make a plan on how to deal with it?

If the gang members keep shooting each other then we should end up with fewer gang members in the future, and then the numbers will go down.

yup – if they just shoot each other! But what about the innocent, normal victims?
Every Section8 project needs metal detectors at the doors. Too many thugs are living rent free with fully loaded weapons in the projects.
    This has to stop.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, reality check people…. If every responsible, mature, intelligent and competent individual in the frum community legally carried a concealed weapon of which they were proficient in it’s use AND THE SCUM ON THE STREET KNEW IT, I’m pretty certain that the above listed statistic would be vastly different (in the realm of a possible DECREASE by 900% in the “shooting & violent crime” category)…..
