Assault on Jewish Woman Prevented by Nearby Shuls
At around 12:30pm on Shabbos afternoon, a melee broke out on the corner of Albany Avenue and Crown Street as the congregants of several Shuls in the vicinity rushed outside to the sounds of a Jewish woman’s blood-curling screams.
The woman had been walking with a friend when she saw an Israeli woman on the ground and a middle-aged African-American man standing over her. In all appearances, it seemed as if she had just been assaulted. The Israeli woman then stood up and ran away. Just at that moment, the man started walking straight towards the two women with his hands stretched out in front of him, as if he was about to molest one of them.
The woman’s screams brought several dozen men from nearby Shuls out into the street, who promptly swarmed the alleged attacker. They tried to subdue him and hold him until police arrived, but the man fought back ferociously, and a bloody scuffle ensued.
When police arrived, they dispersed the crowd and brought the man and the two witnesses to the station to figure out what happened.
After hearing the witnesses’ statements, the police informed them that since they had not been physically touched – and the Israeli woman could not be found – they had no choice but to release the man without serious charge. He did however receive a citation for harassment, a misdemeanor.
“I think I’m very lucky [that I was not actually assaulted],” the woman told CrownHeights.info after Shabbos. “He had his hands like claws in my face and he was going to hurt me. He looked crazed,” she said.

If that rat had run into the wrong CH crew he might not have made it to the precinct. It’s a some of the boys weren’t around that area.

WAS THIS CAUGHT ON SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS?? IMPORTANT: I’ve been hearing people say that our community needs to get someone to offer surveillance cameras at a subsidized price, along with the installation.

there was no “bloody brawl” – just some strong pushing and yelling for about 10 minutes till the cops finally came. In retrospect, it took too much energy to contain him and I would rather knock him hard to the ground next time.
Its a big problem that people don’t know how to press charges correctly, it makes all the energy spent in containing him go to waste.

Unfortunately, now the man will find another woman to attack or molest. Women must not let fear rule their mind. We must consider each other. She should contact the police and ask.

This happened in broad daylight on a busy intersection.
Crown Heights Shomrim should station volunteers on every block in Crown Heights.

Funny but I heard a totally different story from a Jewish woman witness who says he was not violence and there were more than 20 men who ran out of Shul and brutally attacked him; what gets us into trouble is that some of the residents in our neighborhood resort to violence as the first approach, no questions asked

How do we know that the woman was Israeli?

All these crimes by “crazy” people started when the ACLU lawyers in their well protected homes and in far away suburbs decided it is illegal to keep obviously mentally sick people locked up.

@eye witness #9:
Do you think if someone just committed a criminal offense, you will politely ask him to stop walking away from the scene and you will have a civil conversation about what a witness just said about what he did ?
When a middle aged Jewish lady is screaming Help from the street – its a no brainer – You stop the suspect and if he gets confrontational then that only adds to the suspicion on him. If criminals are repeatedly back on the street for forcible touching and harassment, then surely normal people can get knock this guy out or bring him down to the floor and then even if they get arrested – Big deal.
As long as there is no racial element in your fight. – Its just a fight. Just make sure you give him a good beating.
Everyone without a criminal record should not be afraid to beat animals like this to the ground, nothing terrible will happen even if you get arrested.

it seems to me that you, 1st responder are dillusional and possess a violent nature and if not for Shomrim where you can feel justification in beating the living day lights out of someone you would just be a low-life blood thirsty thug!!!! and a wife beater – so hide behind Shmirah or Shomrim or whatever title you stand by so you can continue beating up people and causing the neighborhood more trouble than you are worth all in the name of justice

@ #13
I’m neither in Shmira or Shomrim, no titles here- Nor do I need any. But since I have been living here number of years – now it is my neighborhood.
Just let me know when its you…., the next time you are getting mugged in broad daylight so I can stand aside and not do anything because you are against “violence”.

NYS Office of Mental Health is planning to put up an 8 story building for the seriously mentally ill on a 2 story residential block ( East New York Ave & Maple Street between Utica and Schenectady.)
Many of the mentally ill have a substance abuse problem as well, and there is an over-saturation of social services like this in Crown Heights.
Schenectady is a block where many Jews walk to the Kingsbrook Jewish Shul, and many Jews are moving South of East New York Ave.
Even though the community board vote was 15-14-1 (Yes, No & Abstention) and there were not enough yes votes (16 needed), the community board passed the vote without authority and refuses to correct its mistake.
I hope others who care about preventing tsoros in the community will join my fight.
