Unknown Arsonists Attempt to Burn Minivan

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Unknown perpetrators attempted to set alight a minivan belonging to a Hatzalah volunteer. Although unsuccessful, the family was left thoroughly shaken and scared.

The arson attempt was discovered Tuesday morning; the woman was about to get into the minivan and noticed that the gas cover was open and the gas cap was hanging. Upon closer inspection, she noticed a burnt piece of newspaper stuck in the fuel fill opening.

She immediately called Shomrim and 911, and left the car as is.

The vehicle was parked in the family’s garage, which is located in the alleyway. The garage has no gate and is open, and the van was not moved since it was parked on Sunday evening.

Police responded and began taking a report for the crime. When asked if they suspect who may have done it, the family said that they have no clue.

An investigation has been opened, and detectives are looking into the matter.
