Crown Heights [CHI] — On Motzei Shabbos, a 15-year-old bochur was on his way home from Shul, when he was accosted on the corner of Albany Ave. and Carroll St. by two African-American males who demanded his cell phone.
Being that he was still in his Shabbos clothes, he – of course – didn’t have any valuables on him, which he tried to explain to them.
The assailants were unsatisfied by his explanations and rummaged through his pockets hoping to find something to steal. When nothing indeed turned up, he was punched in the face, leaving him severely bruised and swelling on one side.
Dazed, the victim walked over to the police command post in front of Lubavitcher Yeshiva (which was relocated to that area at the suggestion of Shomrim, as reported here) where he filed a report with the officers.

Wow,what a helpfull command. They are set up to patrol the surrounding streets and couldn’t even control what was one block over??!! How helpfull!!! Only now can I say I truly feel like the whole police protection is a sham. Who is the majority running it??!!! Come on!

This occured Friday night after mariv in 770.There was no conversation demanding his cell phone.He was hit once near his pocket and then moments later punched in the face.
Please don’t let your children walk alone until there is more “protection”in the streets….
The police should be in places that have apartment buildings where teens hang out, not in front of a central place like Lubavitcher Yeshivah…..
We definitely need more camera and video surveillance here.
It would have been nice if the police would have escorted the boy hone after such a frightening incident!

The story says that the bochur was attacked by “African Americans”. How do we know they were Americans at all? Did anyone check their Immigration Status? Are we assuming they were Americans because of the color of their skin?
Are they even African? Have these people ever stepped foot on the continent of Africa? Do they even know where it is?
Having said that, how did the author of the article determine they were even African, let alone American? based on the color of their skin? How racist! Are we saying that a white African that immigrates to America and gets american citizenship is NOT an “African-American”, but a black person from New Guinea (not in Africa)that comes to America to visit is now referred to as an African American? How silly is that!? It’s political correctness gone wild!

When you are punched in the face,you don’t think of beating people up …You run for safety…Yankel Rosenbaum had many years under his belt too….These people can be armed…I wouldn’t want my son wrestling with someone armed with a knife or gun….or glass bottle !

Hey 10, just because you may eventually go down, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take as many as you can with you. Martial Arts is when your back is against a wall and you have to fight.
Oh, and self defence will teach you to see a punch coming a mile away. Your hands are already up at chest height, just in case. Defensive posture, non threatening. And if you get hit, well, guess what – you train for that too. You take it, and you make the guy wish he’d never been born.

Something’s amiss that they feel they can get away with anything. There must be a way to put fear of consequence into their consciousness. The police themselves need to be more aggressive in pursuing and punishing these crimes or it will never end!

Marshal Arts and Sports Clubs should be a part of the school they should know they will get the answer right there and nothing personal just an adequate answer back.. they will respect only the power and then maybe the truth.

Almost happened to me.
i was on albany and eastern parkway about a half hour after shabbos, when suddenly i felt like i was being followed, i turned around to see two young african americans walking silently behind me, from the way they were walking and a quick look in their eyes i was convinced they were up to no good.
being that i was close to home i just decided to walk home as fast as i could, that may have not helped, my heart was racing, but Boruch Hashem there was somebody i knew coming towards me from the other end of the block, he called out to me to ask me if i knew where a certain person lived, i gladly gave him the information and kept on talking to him until those guys were gone.
after reading about what happened to this bochur im pretty sure those guys following me were his attackers.
im very sorry for him and at the same time very grateful to Hashem for sending me a freind just at the right time to protect me.
