Shul Burglarized Friday Night, Torah Crown Stolen
A Crown Heights Shul was burglarized on Friday night and the thief made off with the silver crown of the Sefer Torah, tools, a guitar and other items of value.
The theft occurred in Chevra Ahavas Yisroel on Albany Avenue and Lincoln Place, and was discovered Shabbos Morning when the Shuls Rabbi, Rabbi Chezzi Denebeim, arrived before Davening.
“The Aron Kodesh was wide open and things were thrown around” said Rabbi Denebeim, “the basement was also broken into and construction tools and well as musical instruments are missing.”
The Rabbi estimated the loss in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Apparently the burglar forced his way in through a window and spent a considerable amount of time searching for items of value, then simply exited from the front door.
Congregants walked a few blocks and flagged down police officers who came to the Shul and took a report. Detectives arrived shortly after and promised that they are taking the matter very seriously. Surveillance cameras from nearby buildings are also being used in hopes of identifying the thief.
Wow
With the guitar thats bad
Yossi
The Chevra Ahavas Yisroel shul needs to install a burglar alarm ASAP
Gevalt
Hope they get the guitar back.
The truth can be frightening
how do you leave things wide open un protected? most shuls have a safe or some other way to properly & securely lock the Aron Kodesh & other protection NYC 101
And also install
A lock on the aron. Very awful news.
Don't Wait
Get the laundromat on the corner to save the recording from its cameras now. The owner told me his system only saves for 48 hours, and then records over.
say what?!
Wow and Gevalt need some major Tehillim recital. Then THEY should return to the shul.
Drugs
Somehow I think drugs is to blaim for this.
Right
I agree, definitely not the work of a person.

Didn’t they keep the guitar in the aron and the Torah in the basement?

moshiach
unfortunately, open door policy needs to be tempered until moshiach comes and stays. it’s sad that ChAY has had to taste the ugly reality of theft by humans which still exists.
yes, they will learn from experience to lock valuables.
