Shliach’s Shooter Killed in Gunfight

Russia’s main anti-terror agency said Friday that its forces killed five suspected terrorists, including a prominent warlord, during a raid in the southern province of Dagestan, a republic of Russia which has seen a growing presence of Islamic extremists. They were wanted in connection with the Shooting of Chabad Shliach Rabbi Ovadia Isakov.

The National Anti-Terrorist Committee said in a released statement that the terrorists were shot Friday in the city of Derbent, located on the Caspian Sea. The security forces, acting on a tip, surrounded a house where the terrorists were holed up. The terrorists refused to surrender and were subsequently killed in a gunfight.

The Committee said that one of the suspects, Sherif Akhmedov, was the leader of a group of terrorists suspected of staging a series of attacks on police and other authorities and running an extortion racket targeting local businesses.

Rasul Temirbekov, spokesman for Dagestan’s Investigative Committee, told the Associated Press that Akhmedov is believed to be behind at least 20 terrorist attacks in Derbent in the past two years, including bus bombings and a July attack on a Chabad Shliach, Rabbi Ovadia Isakov the Rabbi of a local Chabad synagogue.

Police believe the attack on the rabbi was motivated by anti-Semitism. Dagestan has suffered frequent terrorist violence in recent years, much of it due to the Islamist group Shariat Jamaat and to clashes between Sufi and Salafi Muslim groups.

Since the attack, Rabbi Isakov has recuperated and returned to the region where he continues his work as a Shliach.

  • Doesn't Say That

It doesn’t say the shooter was killed. It says this group was behind the shooting. It doesn’t say whether any of them were actually the shooter, or if it was one of their agents, etc.

  • why?

The terrorist attack in Kenya received a lot of coverage in the press, as obviously it should’ve. Since then there was an attack on a church in Pakistan with 70 killed and just yesterday an attack in Nigeria with 20 college students slaughtered. Why are these attacks not given more press so people can understand the heinous nature and full extent of this horrible evil? And where is the “Arab street’, where is the outrage over these atrocities committed in the name of their “prophet” and their “religion of peace”? Seems like the “Arab street” only gets upset when there’s a cartoon printed somewhere in the world with a likeness of their “prophet”, or when Jews defend themselves in Israel. Does anyone doubt that the fate of the Jews in Arab countries (if they were still there) would’ve been the same as that of the Coptics in Egypt?! B”H the Yiddin in Israel are in a position to defend themselves, much to the dismay of so many countries where so much Jewish blood was spilled in the past, R”L.
