12-Year-Old Arrested for Attempted Bike Theft

A pair of baby faced thieves brazenly attempted to steal a bicycle on East New York Ave., only to be stopped by a passerby who, together with workers from a nearby supermarket, chased one of them down. He was later arrested by police officers.

The incident occurred at around 6:30pm in front of ‘the Marketplace’ on East New York Avenue off Kingston Avenue. The duo, described as black males in their pre-teens, went to work on a chain securing two bikes to a tree.

Armed with a metal saw, they worked on cutting the lock for nearly ten minutes. They finally succeeded in cutting the chain, only to be interrupted by a passerby, who called out to nearby store workers for help. Together they successfully chased down one of the would-be thieves.

When police arrived it was determined that the would-be thief was 12 years old. Nevertheless, he was taken into custody and arrested.

His accomplice remains at large.

    the city or someplace needs to give grants or something to get more surveillance cameras.
    this is a great story. Sorry to hear it, but proud that people were brave and stood up for truth. We must have these people, kol hakavod to them.

    The other nation in this town are constantly STEALING from us. I think there should be a billboard yelling out that if someone STEALS – that it is against God’s Commandments and that person shall not have a place in heaven, only down under. That oughta put a scare in them eh?

    Billboard needs to say “WARNING: If you steal, your arm will be cut off!” If it happens to one or two thieves, there will be no more stealing.

    Don’t be too quick to judge these young kids – if they weren’t poor, they wouldn’t steal. Maybe we should ask ourselves what we can do to make it less likely that these boys would feel compelled to take things that aren’t theirs..

      I agree. I think the Islamic method of discouraging thievery, for instance, is very effective.
