Shomrim Apprehends Two Shoplifters Following Wild Chase

A Shomrim volunteer and a store manager witnessed a pair of shoplifters fill two backpacks with goods from a Crown Heights supermarket, then leave without paying. After following them for a while a chase ensued and both were apprehended.

The incident occurred Monday at the Marketplace on Kingston and E New York Avenues at around 7:30pm. The color coordinated duo, both Black males wearing green clothing and wearing backpacks, where spotted in one of the store isles stuffing deodorants into their backpacks.

After exiting the store Shomrim alerted the store owner and manager and together they began following the pair at a distance while calling the police.

While waiting a short while for police to arrive the suspects attempted to flee. Being that the store manager and a Shomrim volunteer witnessed the crime they gave chase and stopped them on E New York near Troy Avenue. One stayed behind and somewhat willingly waiting for the police while the second one bolted and fled down Troy.

After making a turn on to Maple Street, the suspect dropped his backpack – later claiming it was not his, and a group headed him off at Schenectady where he was apprehended and subdued. A large crowed formed and when they found out that the suspect was accused of stealing they turned against the suspect and encouraged him to stop resisting and wait for the police.

When officers arrived the suspect was immediately taken into custody, officers then went to the second location and took the second suspect into custody. When police searched them they found dozens of deodorants and they were placed under arrest.

  • Idiots

How dumb are these idiots? If these two had half a brain between them we’d be in trouble. What I don’t get is why they weren’t stopped as soon as they were outside the store.

  • MISUNDERSTANDING!

I’m sure it was all a misunderstanding!
Listen! They probably didn’t know that you can not eat Deodorant!
A bissel rachmonis! Imagine thinking you can eat that stuff!
Proof in point: What other uses could you imagine they using it for?! Nebach.

  • Abba

I think the marketplace should invest in those security alarms that go off when they leave with items that weren’t checked out

    • Itche

It’s too much of a bother to do that for food they move 1000’s of products a week and have maybe 100 stolen a year

  • i think....

that marketplace should act like and be a mentch and these things will stop happening to him

  • thank you

Thank you Shomrim for being there and looking out for our safety. May Hashem bless you all and keep extra eyes on you.

  • it is sad

that people mess up their lives
and even sadder when many lives are already so messed up as young children
but it is never too late
I hope they invest in themselves to improve their lives

  • Stupid

these guys were practically begging to get caught both wearing green they stick out big time. FYI one of the most shoplifted items is deodorant which is small but valuable to resell. The things usually locked behind glass or behind the counter in places with a shoplifting problem are known to be stolen. The stores need to take better security measures to make it harder for the shoplifters in the first place.

  • Give Them More

They should give them all the deodorant they want. Tired of having smelly people around.

  • Maybe

Maybe they were upset that they’d used credit cards at the marketplace and their identity had been stolen

  • no need

I love the picture of the perp being held by the cop with a “wha’did ah do” expression on his face!

No need to mention that the criminals were black for 2 reasons: 1. You can see for yourself in the pictures and 2, Day after day the criminals victimizing this neighborhood are 100% blacks. Now if the perp was Asian or white that would be a chidush perhaps worth mentioning, otherwise it’s obvious what race the criminals are. This is not racism, it is simple demographics and “facts on the ground”.

  • Uncle Mendel

Our poor, poor, ARFrican Americans just keep being unfairly targeted as shoplifters. Does anyone consider the fact that, by putting goods on the shelf, the store owners are trying to ENTRAP our fellow law abiding citizens????

I say, LET them steal, and than ASK THEM if they would like to pay for it later.

…Just keep them out of ARLANS !!!

  • Attention Obama!

Forget food stamps your people want deoderant stamps!! No problem this congress will vote for it in a minute.

I hope the MKT place isn’t relying on those famous Bais Rivkah Camares

  • Abba, what's happening

What a long chase. Only young men can ensue such a strenous chase on such a hot day. Yasher Koach to all that saved the day.

  • The Lowest Quality

It seems that the very lowest quality that a human being can reach is concentrated in Crown Heights. Just finished reading about the violent assault and robbery on the Jewish woman- in which one criminal was left to go free because she was ’15 years old’.
