At around 12:30 this afternoon the “Pace” hardware store was held up at gunpoint. The incident took place while one of the two store workers was tending to customers in the front of the store when a single Black male pulled a gun from under his coat and pointed it at the man behind the counter and simply told him “open register”.
He described the perp as around 5”10 who was wearing a red and white bandana over his face and a hood over his head and his eyes seemed glazed over. Upon seeing the gun he did not hesitate and opened the cash drawer, after which the perp began poking him with the gun. At this point he simply slammed the drawer shut and pushed the perp, and made a beeline for the door.
Attempted Robbery – At Gunpoint
Back inside the store the other employee picked up the phone and pointed at a large camera and told the perp that he better just leave, that he is calling the police and that he’s on camera. After hearing this the perp simply left, empty handed. Other customers in the store had called 911 but being that they weren’t from here they had a hard time telling the dispatcher where they were.
Once the perp left the store they followed him from a distance and saw him go into 441 Empire Blvd. a building with a long history of problems which include rocks being thrown out of the building towards cars and pedestrians and a mugging which took place inside the building (Click Here for more) from there the perp’s trail was lost.
Police responded and took witness statements then closed the store awaiting the Crime Scene Unit to come and lift fingerprints. Two people in the store were then taken down to the 71st Pct. Squad to look at photographs and they both made a possible ID on the same man.
This incident comes along with a disturbing rise of such robberies and attempts in the neighborhood which was brought to our attention after this incident. Another jewish business was hit by two gun toting perps where money was taken and thank g-d no one was hurt. And over Shabbos a Yid was approached by a Black male with a gun and demanded money, to which he told him that Jews don’t carry any money on Shabbos, this incident went unreported.
We would like to take this opportunity and warn residents to be extra careful and vigilant, keep your eyes open and take note of everything. Do not leave items in your car, take it out or put it in the trunk. If you see something say something. Call Shomrim at (718) 744-3333 anytime and 911!

is the cashier crazy????????? he pushed the perp who carried a gun?????????? if someone with a gun tells u to give them your money, you do it. you only live once. money is replaceable, life is not. last year a ‘macho’ actress did the same thing in the village and was shot dead.
only put things in the trunk...
this article says to put things in the trunk of the car. if possible, you should put things in the trunk before you leave your original position and not when you reach your destination. someone can be watching you put things in the trunk and walk away.
Please Answer
Honest!
what are you supposed to do when a gun is being pointed at you.
Should you run away or do something if they start poking you with you gun???

Pace is a block from the 71st. How long did it take the cops to put down their donuts & get themselves over there?
B”H no one was hurt.
Benefit of the doubt!
I guess that the cashier thought that he’d get killed anyway…if he gave the money or not….so he reckoned, why not make a run???? It’s a 50 50 chance! Good on him for having the guts! Besides…how could we all ask questions anyway? when was the last time s.one pointed a gun at us, to know how we “should have” reacted!!!
