2:00am: Shomrim Apprehend Two for Breaking into Cars

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish woman called Shomrim at 2:00am on Motzai Shabbos after she spotted two Black men in her car on Carroll Street. Through amazing collaboration between the NYPD and Shomrim the two were apprehended and arrested – later discovering that they were responsible for multiple break-ins that same night.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:00am, as the Shomrim hotline rang with an alert from a car owner who spotted two black men rummaging around in her car. The call was dispatched over the Shomrim radios and quickly 6 volunteers responded to the incident, which was taking place on Carroll Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues.

Upon arrival, Shomrim spotted the pair, who matched the caller’s description, and began following them as a call was put in to 911. A marked police radio car, which happened to be passing by, was flagged down by the volunteers.

Another unmarked police anti-crime unit happened to be passing by as police dispatched the call, and they spotted the pair as they were getting out of a car.

Together, Shomrim and police found two out of the five car owners and pressed charges against the pair, who were arrested.

Police officers at the scene, including a Lieutenant and a Sergeant, thanked Shomrim for a job well done in aiding the police, and also offered some words of comfort following last week’s tragedy in which Leiby Kletzky was butchered to death. “This must feel good to make a good arrest after last week’s tragedy. Keep up your good work,” said the Sergeant.
