Brooklyn residents rallied Thursday night to support a man they say was assaulted by police.

The James E. Davis Stop the Violence Foundation led the march to the 71st precinct. The foundation claims police went into the wrong Crown Heights house last week looking for drugs and guns.

They say police broke down the door and beat 23-year-old Patrick Lawrence.

“They came in the house and they handcuffed me, then they beat me up. I didn’t even realize it was the cops until I walked out into the living room,” said Lawrence.

“They kicked down both doors. I had to go to Home Depot and buy back doors and locks,” said Lawrence’s mother Pauline Lawrence Richards. “They turned my place upside down. It was devastating when I come in. It was a disaster. Every drawer, every suitcase, every where that you could think of was turned over. It was terrible.”

Police say they were granted a search warrant because two of Lawrence’s brothers were known to stay there and were known to have crack cocaine and an illegal gun, but they say the brothers were not there at the time.

Patrick Lawrence was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

its not possible to say that they went to the wrong house for drugs. it seems more accurate to say that they couldnt FIND it, but im sure it was not unjustified.

uh…. the police have every right to search a house for drugs if people who are known to own them have been staying there or live there….. it is good that they are trying their best to keep drugs off of CH’z streeets. Btw whoever’z house it was….. you have a right to be angry but they were jsut doing there job.

"Patrick Lawrence was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana."

As apposed to lawful possession of marijuana?
