On Wednesday evening a group of three Israeli Bochurim who were staying with a Jewish family for the month of Tishrai on Midwood St (this is one of two Lubavitch families that lives down there) were held up at gunpoint and were mugged.

The group of Bochurim were making their way up Kingston when they were approached by two black males one of which produced a gun pointed it at the Bochurim and demanded their money. Between the three there was a total of $5 and they quickly turned it over, after which one of the two muggers said to the Bochurim that ‘its dangerous down here, you might get shot. Go home.’ 911 was immediately called and a number of cars responded instantly and quickly began canvassing the area for these perps with the victims, to no avail. They were then taken down to the precinct to fill out a police report.

Mugging At Gunpoint on Midwood and Kingston

On Wednesday evening a group of three Israeli Bochurim who were staying with a Jewish family for the month of Tishrai on Midwood St (this is one of two Lubavitch families that lives down there) were held up at gunpoint and were mugged.

The group of Bochurim were making their way up Kingston when they were approached by two black males one of which produced a gun pointed it at the Bochurim and demanded their money. They were then taken down to the precinct to fill out a police report.

Shomrim was also notified of this incident and in response increased patrols in that area, which is known to have groups hanging out on Midwood St between the blocks of Brooklyn through Albany due to the poor lighting and construction that has been going on over there. Residents living or walking down there please exercise more caution and regard for that area of the neighborhood.

A crime of this nature involving a gun or not takes priority and will therefore be picked up by Officers immediately, its important you notify both 911 and Shomrim immediately. The number for the Shomrim hotline is (718) 774-3333 24/7!

    Here we go again!

As soon as Yom Tov is over, the police disappear & the roaches crawl out of the sewers.

Everyone needs to be very careful…no obvious jewelry on the women. Look around you, even during the day. Have your cell at the ready.

Now we need a log of all incidents to prove that a strong police presence is necessary. Let’s call this Mugging #1 since Yom Tov.

    Stupid Ni*****!
Two guys with a gun, against 3 Bochurim, and all they get is $5. good for them.

If we don’t make a stink now about the cops leaving us just because yom tov is over it’ll be too late soon. They just didnt want anything bad to happen on yom tov because it’s more likely the press would run with the story if it can have the glitzy backdrop of being over our holidays. Now it’s just another crime on just a regular day … no big deal to them.

Is the watchtower even still there??

The block that Maple Street Shul is on is also very dark.
Maybe the members of that Shul should work together with the city to have more lights put on that block.

I spoke to a Shvartze in a hospital bed after he got shot in the arm by his girlfriends ex. He said to me

"TO GET A GUN, ALL YOU NEED IS CONNECTIONS. IT AINT WHAT IS USED TO BE"

    He lives in crown heights!!!

(he said little kids carry guns now)!!

Only last week I saw a gun fall out of the pocket of a teenager from our building.
Is there any point in calling the cops? The guy knows that I saw it and so if he gets into trouble he will know exactly who reported him. I have no interest in being the next shhoting victim on crownheights.info

  • guns

"guns" Don’t’ you think that teenager would have gone to jail for carrying a concealed weapon, and not just that he’s underage? I would have called the cops!

the fact is we will never move into the buildings on kinston between empire & lefferts. So the crime element will still be there. until we put some fear into these people we will suffer.
and more people moving south will not help just make more targets.Think about it these 2 armed robbers are willing to go to jail for at least 2-5 years for $5 dollars

  • PSA from a criminal

    This is a PSA
"its dangerous down here, you might get shot. Go home."
    How thoughtful.

  • to guns:

by the time the police would arrive to check him, if they found him, tey probably wouldn’t find the gun still in his pocket, at which point they would let him go for lack of evidence! Do you want to be the one who he comes to afterwards knowing that someone accused him of carrying a gun wwhich he still has hidden somewhere?

Don’t forget that if these people carry guns so absentmindedly, how much thought do you think goes into the shooting process?

I would still report im though a few weeks later, when he forgot already that you saw it.

    Hi,

I don’t live on Midwood st. but visit there often enough, since I know the Jewish family there. It is a beautiful block, quite, peaceful neighbors, and you can get a feeling that you are out of town occassionally. I guess these incidents can happen anywhere, it has happened on Kingston and President too!

It’s great to know that Crown Heights is expanding.

  • maple streed shooting

    To: Fair and balanced.
Your comments are far from fair and balanced. Firstly, we have to expand. Homes are more affordable on those blocks. I am related to one of the 2 families on Midwood. They got their home for a great price. You have a Shuk market within minutes to Midwood, Fennimore etc. Look at Williamsburg expanding into Fort Greene. They first settled 10 or more blocks away with a few families. Now they are connected with more families, stores etc. Thats how to do it. Why should moving south be any different than going north to S. Johns etc? Start thinking outside the box.

  • guns

well I would had followed him from a distance, while calling the cops, secondly what will calling the cops a few weeks later due? they will ask why didnt u call right away? I say carry a weapons you never know!

  • lasvegasjew

If every Jew carried a legal gun of their own and used it when allowed by law there would be less mugings.. period! It is pretty easy to get a concealed weapons permit in USA and self defense allows one to use it.

  • ISchier

    To Brook Ave:

You are right about expanding, but with so many young people going away on shlichus, will we ever have the numbers to turn Fenimore, Midwood etc into blocks with any sort of a Jewish presence?

Remember that in Williamsburgh, no one goes out on shlichus – they want to remain in the area, especially now that it seems both brothers have established themselves as rebbes there.
