CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A man was shot multiple times earlier in the afternoon as he was exiting an apartment building where he lived. Witnesses heard 8 or more shots ring out, which left a man lying on the street bleeding.

The incident took place in front of 1646 Union Street, right off the corner of Schenectady Avenue. One eyewitness said he first heard shots and turned to find a black man covered in blood lying on the street and semi conscious.

“I held his head and told him not to move” said the witness, who asked not to be identified, “I told him help was on the way as I called 911.”

The suspect, described as a skinny black male, fled in a compact sports car – a Nissan Altima or BMW.

EMS and police arrived on scene shortly after the gunfire, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital. Detectives were seen speaking to neighbors and bystanders as they tried to piece together what had taken place.

Orange cones marked where shell casing landed following the shooting.

A police source told CrownHeights.info that Peter Simonetti, the commanding officer of the 71st Precinct, was not working today due to some cardiac procedure. When asked if he notified Mr. Simonetti he said “no, I don’t want to give him another heart attack.”

    they need to start a movement for the People of the community to bond together and “take back the streets”. This crime has to stop. If the police can’t do it, then somehow the community must figure out a way to do this.

    yo PRE, I don’t want to bond wichyou and withanyone who looks like you. The POlice can not help you if you dont take the first step. There is plenty you can do now, like pick up the phone and call the POlice when you see yuts hanging out (smoking, gambling, foul language, loud “music”…).
    Also you can get a legal firearm and SHOOT back.

    Maybe it is time (1) to make sure criminals who violate the law and use deadly force are put away instead of being given hand slaps by the liberal judges and(2) arm and train the populace in the use of guns–“more guns–less crimes!!”

    there is too much crime going on around union street lately. There needs to be something done about the prevalence of guns in the area and also about gangs and drugs.

    any place your child goes he runs the risk of getting into the crossfire after the shooting the deed was done and the shooter is not going to show his face so theres nothing to be concerned
