Construction Site Robbed and Vandalized

A home that was in the midst of being renovated was broken into over the weekend, the thieves tore open the walls and ripped out the copper pipes, as well as the radiators and baseboards.

According to the property owner, a local Jewish resident, the theft happened sometime last week and he estimated the damage to be over $80,000.

Thieves steal metal and copper and take it down to junkyards where they get paid for their loot.

Police filled out a report and are investigating.

    I work in a scrap yard, and many of the things that come in are stolen. We have the cops in 5-10 times per week looking for copper pipes, wires, and miscellaneous appliances. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing who actually owns the items people bring in to scrap, which is why most states now require the scrap yard to copy a state issued ID along with any purchase of copper or brass materials. the trick is getting the cops to care enough to go through the photocopies…
