Under ‘Lox’ and Key
When the thief picked the lox, the cops shouted, “Spread ’em!”
A bagel-brained bandit stuffed a dozen packs of smoked salmon in his pants at a Brooklyn deli — but got schmeared by a couple of workers before he could get out the door, police said yesterday.
And now he’s the catch of the day at Rikers.
“It was enough lox to feed a football team,” Leo Stein, manager of Landau’s Market in Borough Park, said of the 6-ounce packages of Nova, which sell for $9.99 apiece.
“I have no idea how he fit it all in his jeans.”
It was another manager, Lipa Lichtenstein, who spotted the thief, identified as Sergey Muzlayov, 31, in a corner of the market Tuesday around 5 p.m., allegedly shoving the premium lox in his pants, and confronted the thief.
“Hey, where’s the lox?” Lichtenstein shouted.
Muzlayov allegedly pulled a syringe out of his pocket and threatened the manager, but Lichtenstein fought him to get the merchandise back.
“They started wrestling for the lox, and then other people ran to hold him down,” Stein said.
Managers called the Shomrim neighborhood patrol, who detained him until police arrived.
By the time cops showed up, Muzlayov’s face was badly beaten, with blood streaming down his cheek.
The suspect, whose rap sheet reads like the everything bagel of petit larceny, has 24 prior arrests for thefts of such items as beard trimmers and bicycles, cops said.
He was arraigned on charges of robbery, menacing, harassment and possession of a weapon, and held on $10,000 bail, police said.
Although shaken by the robbery, managers hadn’t decided the fate of the fish.
“We’re going to decide what to do with the lox,” Stein said. “We could put them back on the shelf if we wanted to.”
Shoplifting is not unheard of at the kosher market, but this was a first, Stein said.
“No one has stolen lox from here,” he said. “But nothing surprises me. The lox were an easy target.”
camera happy
Here in crown heights they chanina would call a press conference to see how “we can prevent a riot”
CHT
Why to be so vicious, it is hilul hashem. you should only apply enough force for neutralization and detention.
antimesira
Had this incident accord in Crown Heights, the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. (Including Chanina Sperlin, Paul Huebner and the Shmira Mesira), would be doing everything they can to have the police arrest the Shomrim.
Lock up them Jews Police
To #2 antimesira
I hate to admit, but what your saying is sadly true.
The corrupt people who run The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. have been protecting their kind (criminals and crooks)for ages.
Chanina Sperlin is only good to help get Jews IN JAIL. When it comes to help a Jew get out, there is nothing he can do, there is nothing he wants to do.
Remember This story of a BIG Askon who had the police release a dangerous thug, only to make nice with the police and to try to screw Shomrim…

To # 1,
today its lox, tomorrow it’s rape.
This guy should be happy to be alive.
Great job Bor-Park people, great job Shomrim.
May Hashem protect all the great volunteers of Shomrim all over the world. May Hashem protect them from Jews (Mossrim) and non-Jews.
No Mesira!
Thanks G-d the guy or gal from comment Number 1 was not a witness to what took place, that would prove to be very dangerous for the Jewish people and the Shomrim Volunteers.

Remember this story….

This is the sad story of Crown Heights.

We don’t need to be like them to succeed against them.
could someone explain
a few weeks ago there was a guy who stole a car (through craigslist) & he was let out on bail $500. this guy gets $10.000 for steling lox.
bottom line if you plan on steling in ny dont steel lox, go for cars, is that what nyc courts is telling us?
sam
boro park once again shows us how its done. ch r bunch of babies and would call police only after the thieve left.
actually mentally ill
I believe it should be considered that he is mentally unstable (ill) and not criminally minded. He needs to be in a hospital to get help; not in prison. Very sad.
MP
i heard sam chanin offered to pay this guys bail
funny
i agree with num 8.

To #4–you got it wrong kinda…..Boro Park isn’t everything…
When I was arrested by my ex—accused of ”domestic violence,“ (a common tactic taught by ”frum“ Boro Park-based social workers to other frum women ”in transition” taught by both Ohel and Yaled v’Yalda) Moshe Rubashkin and Tzvi Lang (remember them? lol!) came to the jail try to convince the desk Sergeant to release me O.R., failed, YET the next day arranged for $50,000.00 bail necessary to spring me with 1 1/2 hours to go until Shabbos.
The denouement: I invoked my right to habeas corpus, and 2 weeks later, at trial, the A.D.A.was forced to dropp the charges and the $50,000.00 was returned to 5 mentchlik retailers on Kingston Ave.
So stuff DOES work in Crown Heights–if you know the right people–

sr
OK, so he’s guilty but no need to beat him up…….!
Itamar Rosenblatt (TO #11)
to #11:
Bail is set based on the criminal record and crime committed. The person stealing cars must have had no prior offenses to get such a small bail. This guy got Robbery 1 based on threatening the manager with a weapon (read the article again.) This is a B Felony, a very serious charge. With his prior offenses that added up to the higher bail. However, $10K is still a low bail for a B felony w/ predicate.
This would never happen in CH
This gonev is lucky it was BoroPark – he got a few petch, big deal. In Willy – he would have gotten a bris!!
Picture Horiffic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take the picture down. The man is human being. It reminds me of world War II. Only here it’s the jews R”l laughing.

Helen
I dont understand why they had to beat up the guy, all they had to do was hold him till the cops came, what where they trying to prove by beating him up.
