Jewish Girl Mugged for her Cellphone on Kingston
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish girl was mugged Wednesday evening, and her blackberry was taken. The incident occurred on Kingston Avenue and Park Place at around 6:30pm.
The girl was walking from her apartment back into the ‘heart’ of Crown Heights when she was accosted by a black male, who snatched her phone from her hands and fled.
Police were called and a police report was filed.
This past Motzai Shabbos there was another such incident, where a girl was mugged for her phone on Eastern Parkway and Troy Avenue, a Shomrim volunteer who happened to be nearby attempted to chase the mugger, but was unsuccessful.
Police have been warning that there is a major surge in cellphone robberies, and have suggested that people don’t use their phones while walking.
demise of the cell phone
if we can’t use our phones while driving and we can’t use our phones while walking….

don’t use the cell phones while walking? I always tell my children to use them with ME while walking, for safety. Why not tie our hands behind our backs?
her mother
If she were not on her phone while she was walking no one would have call for help for her. I know , I was talking to her when this happened. I called the police and Shomrim, Shomrim got there first. Every person around but one kept on walking, not wanting to get involved. Had this happened justs a few block further up the shvartzeh wouldn’t have made it 20 feet before he was down. So I ask, how do we keep our children safe????
GO TO HELL POLICE!!!
THE POLICE SHOULD NOT TELL US WHAT WE SHOULD DO AND WHAT WE SHOULD NOT DO, WHAT THE POLICE SHOULD DO IS THEIR JOB!!!

The cops are doing their jobs! they are not perfect but cut them some slack. one cop saved my life from someone who was trying to attack me!!!!
to #2
i always thought that too but its actually unsafe. if a robber (or worse) wants something, they will do it immediately…they know cops take time to come. whats best to do is be alert and if someone is trying to hurt you SCREAM ON THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS!!! it probably saved my life when an attacker was trying to harm me.

If I were a thieve, I would look for the easiest target, someone distracted by talking on the phone would make a perfect and easy target.
I don’t talk on the phone when walking on the street, and I am always aware of my surroundings, ( don’t worry you will survive
not talking when walking we all did, a short 15 years ago)
Video Camera!
Every Business owner or private citizen who can afford to put up video camera should be encouraged to do so.

When you say Kingston Ave, people think Kingston and Crown. Don’t scare us like that. Say Kingston Ave I believe that section is part of Williamsburg. I think they reached that far. Yes its true when you talk on the phone you are the easiest target. Many times myself I want to snatch phones from people. Easy target, I just can’t get me to do it. But if you continue to tease me, maybe one day I’ll succeed.

Let’s get some sechel out there !!!!
Parents & teachers should instill some common sense into those under their influence !!!!!
Given the propensity of mermbers of a certain community to committ certain crimes …please be aware of your surroundings!!!
Be aware of where you are & the proper precaurions to take …!
Secure pocketbooks, purses, etc…
Do not display a phone in areas that you do not feel safe in !!!
These nogoodnicks can not control themselves and will always snatch things that are not theirs — They are constantly under the control of the Yetzer Hora !!!!

She was walking back from HER OFFICE, not her apartment…
AGREEMENT WITH NUMBER 8.
Crown Heights should demand better security from ‘HOMELAND SECURITY’ by helping and aiding every store to install VIDEO CAMERAS.
Let-s go Shomrim!
The community council isn’t doing anything about this so maybe it’s time for the people who know how to get things done to step in.
Perhaps they can go around encouraging people to install video cameras or maybe go to a video camera installer and get a good deal for the Shchuna.

SICK AND TIRED
You people are so stupid! it hurts!!! NO ONE ever died becase they couldn’t walk from A to B without yaking on the phone or because they couldn’t drive without catching up on the latest Shtus! but plenty of people have died and been attacked while driving and yaking and walking totally oblivious of who they are literally bumping into because the Loshon Hara or some other garbage couldn’t wait until they got home. Since when does every little pisher need to be walking around with such expensive gadgets anyway???? You are spoiling your kids rotten! it’s no wonder that when they get a few more years older and get married “because it’s the done thing to do”, and suddenly they can’t afford all the tzatskes they were spoiled with they say to hell with the marriage.
huh?

MAD
For the record, my phone was just stolen this Tuesday morning at the Utica station… sick people. They’ll sell it and use the money for drugs and designer sneakers. Then they’ll go collect their food stamps and Medicaid…on the way to their next mugging. NICE. Why work for a living when you can do much better than that?
Bla Bla
You have the right to use your cell phone whenever you want! Like when crossing against the light, with a stroller and a toddler in tow…blab away!
When you’re driving and you rear-end the car in front of you…blab away!
When you’re in a store checking out with a line of people behind you…blab away!!
BTW when I walk around at night I keep my phone in my pocket, with 911 pre-dialed “just in case.” But I don’t blab on it when I’m walking around the ‘hood…
smart
talking on the phone at night is not safe. you can not be alert of your suroundings you are easy prey. ganovim look for ppl on phones (or listening to ipods…) the person your on the phone won’t be able to do a thing. you’ll be robbed before the phone even disconects
cautious
whenevr I walk certain streets at night on my way home from wherever..i always have my husband on the other line…so that if somethings happens to me chv, or he hears me scream, or not respond he’ll come running. but I’m always looking around watching my surroundings with my other hand on my pepper spray…uch what a life..
