CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A man armed with a shotgun had a one and a half hour standoff with police yesterday evening, prompting the response of many specialized NYPD units.

Emergency Services Units, Hostage Negotiation Teams, Aviation, armored vehicles, and many others who worked for over an hour to get the man to surrender peacefully.

The incident began on Union Street near Utica Avenue at around 5:00pm, where the man began waving around a shotgun on the street, then went in to an apartment building and holed up in an apartment.

Police sources told CrownHeights.info that the man was involved in an armed robbery just a week ago, and was arrested.

After an hour and a half standoff, police officers managed to take the man into custody.

    Thank you for telling me I live on the block around there and was watching the news all night and saw nothing and was wondering why there was helicopters hovering over my house for over an hour yesterday…now i know

    am i the only that noticed that HE WAS ARRESTED A WEEK AGO FOR AN ARMED ROBBERY, what the hell is he doing on the street a week later.

    It is actually remarkable that no one was hurt-
    cops,citizens or the gunman.Usually the person wielding the gun dies.
    Anyone remember Gideon Bush ,a Jewish mentally ill young man in Boro Park? or Eleanor Bumpers (was that her name) a disturbed elderly black woman?
    Wish the cops had exercised as much restraint and professionalism then.
