Woman Mugged for Her Cell Phone

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A woman had her cell phone robbed this evening. The incident took place on Lefferts and New York Avenue, and a witness called Shomrim.

The incident took place at around 6:00pm, just a block from Beis Rivkah where girls were preparing for the 8th grade production. The witness, a Jewish girl, saw the incident and called Shomrim, who searched for the thief but could not locate him.

Police responded and filled out a police report. The victim was not hurt.

    I think it has something to do with the attack of the 10 year old boy. Maybe its the thief who managed to escape… There seemes to be lots of thefts lately.Maybe this one and the previos one has something to do?

    Cell phones have a GPS built in. Contact the provider and locate the perp to within 10 feet!

    The guy took her purse as well as her phone. (I didn’t know this until after I’d called Shomrim.) The incident happened closer to Brooklyn Ave than New York Ave. The guy tried to escape into an alley but the gate was locked, so he fled towards New York. A Jewish guy chased him but lost him near Nostrand.

    The girl/victim and another witness both noticed the guy before the mugging and said he made them nervous. He jumped at the girl from behind and ran off with her purse. She was very shaken up.

    Ladies: Trust your intuition. The girl who got mugged said she had a feeling she should put more distance between herself and the guy and was upset that she didn’t listen to herself.

    The guy was young, late teens/early 20’s, 5’7″ or so, fairly skinny.

    you guys are bipolar the laws of the city are not just for the non jewish community in CH their for everybody. You complain when there are cops in your neighborhood fighting crimes and summonsing.You want to condemd the police and report them when they are doing their job.You too commit crimes like driving with no seat belts,talking on your cell phones while driving,riding bikes on the sidewalk,driving pass a red light.Those my friends are all against the Law and if a cop sees it he is going to do his job. And you say I didnt do anything I was just walking or standing here and I got a summons.The cop are not there to bypass when YOU break the laws, and arrest every black person who passes by your community just know if you break the laws you too will be arrested and summons. I’ve never seen an area of crybabies in my life. be responsible for your owe actions and stop Blaming everything on the police!!!!

    This is horrible. I’ve just read about 3 muggings in the past 2 days. I mean, seriously? we need to start protecting ourselves, because the cops really don’t care, it seems.

    This is terrible what is happening in Crown heights lately, My son had his cell phone stolen about 3 months ago, he was texting a freind and someone came up upon him and snatched his cell phone, he yelled but nobody heard him, there was 3 kids they were around 16, I think they have a place that buys these cell phones from them that they steal because there is a lot of cell phone snatching going around. It has to stop.ele

    Yes, all recent (last 3 years or so) cell phones have a built in GPS chip. 911 and your provider can tell where your phone is, whether you’ve paid for GPS service or not. ALSO, if your phone is stolen, notify your service provider immediately. They will shut off your service so you will not be charged for outgoing calls, and can tag your phone as “stolen” to render it worthless to the holder.

    To #19: You are a moron. We’re talking about MUGGINGS, violent crimes against people, not seat belts and bikes on the sidewalk. If you don’t see the difference, you shouldn’t be loose on the street – you could get hurt.
