3 Students Attacked in 3 Separate Incidents

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A group of ten to fifteen black youths attacked a Darchai Menachem student yesterday. This is the third of three different incidents that took place in the last week, in one of them the group taunted their victim using racially charged slurs, yet police refuse to look at the incident as a hate crime.

The first incident took place last week in front of Chovevei Torah, on Eastern Parkway and Albany Avenue, as one of the students was on his way home when he was accosted by the large group who taunted him and grabbed his hat off his head and fled.

In the second incident a student was riding his bike home when the same group passed him and attempted to push him off his bike and steal it. A passerby chased the group away. Each of these incidents went unreported to the police.

The most recent incident was yesterday, Wednesday at around 2:30pm, when a class of students was on their way back from the park when one of the students was confronted by this same group and was beaten with a wooden stick, all the while he was being taunted for being a Jew.

In that incident school staff called police and Hatzalah, but BH the student did not suffer any serious injuries.

Later that day the school principal went down to the 77th precinct station house to give a detailed report to a higher tanking officer, who brushed the incident off saying “it is just children messing around, and they would just look for an easy target” and it is not a hate crime.

“We need to take a look at what occurred, not what we think” said Rabbi Ayal Bension, the Darchai Menchem school principal, adding “what occurred is that a black boy went up to Jew and said ‘hey Jew’ and wacked him on the head with a stick, and then ran off.”

Rabbi Bension asked “my question is if we let this go, what message are we sending to this boy and the larger community by not differentiating between regular crime and this bias crime.”

Didn’t you hear? the police are too busy giving out summonses! they are behind on their quotas! If they took time to investigate it would take away much needed time from quotas etc. After all it’s only a Jew & all we are good for is being harassed & summonsed for phony crimes

  • dumb ch police!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i hate ch police!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Disgusted with the CH Police!

Those kids, especially the one in the incident with a wooden stick, probably need therapy!! The Crown Heights Police are good for nothing except tickets and summons!

The biggest problem is not the response of the police! Because the other incidents went unreported YOU send a message that you are frightened and you loose all credebility! If you choose what to report and what not this is what you get!!!!

IMAGINE ME DROPPING THE “N BOMB” IN CH—I wonder how the cops would handle THAT….Sheeeeesh

  • Angry CH Resident

I’m bothered by the police response to this. Allowing these kids to run around assualting these students is ridiculous. If their behaviour isn’t corrected now, they’ll be the next fools shooting up the block.

  • Dear Ohiss Vorrff

Please post your address so I can send you a dictionary. As a bonus gift I’ll throw in a grammar book (6th grade level, but I think it may be too advanced.)

  • What to do next?

The final question remains: what are our representatives going to do about it? To complain and write these comments are meaningless unless action is taken. What is Zaki Tamir going to do? What is Sperlin going to do? These people must act on our behalf. Until that happens, it is a given that it will reoccur…

  • waiting for something big - revenge

wait till someone hits a n**** on the head with a stick and says hey niggger the dumb NYPD from all areas, and all news media, all talk about the poor Minority that was racially targeted, the PD waits for major incidents so that they can hit us more, ticket us more, and have a reason for more anti semitism, look half the cops are either colored or sons of nazi’s it’s not the irish who is being mean or the italtion.

ok you can say what you want.
    I say:
    KEEP ALL THIS RECORDED

BECAUSE: One day it can be brought to court or whatever.
    ONE DAY.

  • legal terms

If shomrim or any Jew hit a black guy with a stick the report would say “assault with a deadly weapon”

  • DS

Channel 7 has an investigative hotline. It should be contacted re this terrible situation.

  • Worried

I have three sons who have to walk back and forth to yeshiva at night for night seder, should I not let them go out. How can we live like this?

  • CHAPTZEM!

What happened to the old days, when
    someone would shout “CHAPTZEM,” and
something would really be done about
    such outrages?!

  • Concerned citizens

Every wonder why these incidents happen……Blacks should not be racist if you look at their history but these alleged attacks keep on happening. Unfortunately, many of these blacks have Jewish landlords who do not take care of their responsibilities as owners and perpetuate the stereotypes into the black consciousness. Crown Heights is about half Jewish/half black…and even though community leaders in each sub-community might think each community is unified…they are wrong. More education and interaction is needed…instead of the latent separation.
