Brazen Kingston Avenue Mugging Foiled by Shomrim

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A pair of muggers attempted a brazen broad daylight mugging on Kingston Avenue only to be stopped by Shomrim, and get arrested.

The victim, a Jewish man who was walking and texting, was suddenly shoved, and in the brief shock his phone was snatched from his hands.

The incident took place near the intersection of Carroll Street and Kingston Avenue at around 4:45pm. The pair of muggers, both Hispanic males, were unfortunate enough to have a Shomrim volunteer right there as they committed their crime, and he immediately called for back-up chased the duo down.

Ultimately it was another Jew who cut off one of the perpetrators in front of Checks Cashed on Kingston and Empire, and he gave up and didn’t put up a fight. The cellphone was then recovered as well.

Police arrived a scant 4 minutes later and after questioning Shomrim how they apprehended the mugger they placed him under immediate arrest. His accomplice managed to flee but hung around nearby to watch as his friend was placed in cuffs. Shomrim identified him later at the scene and police apprehended him as well.

At the scene a black man attempted to raise a ruckus and make trouble, telling the mugger to flee and not to talk to police. Shomrim volunteers confronted the man and told him to leave, and amid his refusals police showed up and he walked away.

This incident comes as the Worldwide Kinus Hashluchim begins today in Crown Heights where thousands of Chabad Emissaries come to Crown Heights for a week of conferences. Police brought in many more cops to protect the neighborhood, but there were no officers on Kingston Avenue at the time.

Shluchim are urged to save Shomrim’s hotline number, (718) 774-3333, and to call them in case of any emergency.

  • How did you do that

No dirt on the Cops this time, I see you’ve become a bit nicer to them.
    I applaud you.

  • in daylight

i was there on the street, he ran crzy fast. so many people tried to stop him. a chutzpah in broad day light.

  • Group Effort

It was a beautiful team effort to stop him (as it was a long chase), I have to admit I admire the the professionalism of the shomrim. They did not treat him in a subhuman way, and made sure that he was comfortable. He admited to the theft.

  • A little hello goes a long way

Indeed we should be nice to the cops make them feel more welcome then we wont have ppl getting summons like last week. i know it sounds strange but CH prob doesnt have the best rep at the precint, if we are nicer to them say hello to the ppl on patrol at night and they will care more about us!!

  • I was there

  • .......

I would just like to say, that watching the whole scene unfold, Shomrim member S.G. who was the first to respond, did an excellent job from chasing to keeping the situation and the subject under control. He was very impressive. Thank you SG

  • was there

shaya did an amazing job! caught the perp controled the situation , and most important next time this guy wants to mug again he will think twice.

  • well maybe true

To those who think that the muggers are back on the street:
No not really those guys are illegal and they could be sent back from were they came from.
And if not then they will be sent to emigration and they will decide.

And your right those guys have such a chutzpa to come to this country and do crime?!
is there no crime in Mexico???????????

to #13, just because they are Hispanic doesn’t mean they are illegal. That’s just blatant stupidity.
