Yet Another Wave of Airbag Thefts

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Six cars were broken into and their airbag were stolen Tuesday night, Erev Rosh Hashana. Despite the streets being flooded with cops, cars parked in Crown Heights are not safe.

These types of thefts began taking place in early 2007, and CrownHeights.info has since recorded over 100 airbag thefts, with many more that have not been reported. These thefts took a six month hiatus in 2009 and police took credit saying that the thief was apprehended in a different neighborhood. That proved untrue when the thief went on a blitz and broke into 14 cars in a single Friday night.

The types of cars targeted in this wave were Honda Pilot’s (pictured), Mercury Milan, and Ford Fusions.

“The only viable way to protect your cars from such thefts is to lock your steering wheel with a club” said Aron Hershkop, owner of Everything Automotive a local auto repair shop.

The second sentence is wrong. It’s not “despite the streets being flooded with cops, cars parked in Crown Heights are not safe”; it’s “because the streets are flooded with cops”! The criminals know full well that the cops will be looking the other way, since they’re busy trying to find reasons to harass the owners of the cars with tickets.

To many thieves in brooklyn ny, maybe we need to go to staten island were the police is not overwelmed by the criminal element.

You know what WOULD be funny? If all cars we parked near the police stations. It
would be a lot easier to catch those guys! (Laughing Out Loud)!
