Another Aggressive Panhandler Taken off the Streets

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Yesterday a Jewish resident was accosted by yet another aggressive panhandler on Kingston Avenue, and a passing Shomrim member stepped in to put an end to it, this time.

The panhandler, who is widely believed to not even be Jewish, is well known to Shomrim after he shoplifted from Apple Drugs on the 1st of January and fled. A police report was filed, and when police arrived the arrested him on the outstanding charge.

The suspect, Leonard DeBartoli, was frisked after being placed in handcuffs and police found a spoon, lighter and other heavy drug paraphernalia in his possession. “What a nice Jewish name he has, right?” said the store manager who came to the scene to identify the suspect.

Many residents have voiced their concern over these panhandlers who show up here and often time all they are collecting money for is to feed their drug habits, which makes them dangerous especially when they are looking for a fix.

i find it amusing that these “beggars”, even the old russian guys in 770 will do whatever it takes to make themselves look more jewish. Take this guy for example, he wears a lubavitch style hat/fedora.
The russian guys in 770 have learned more jewish terms, and one went so far as to even grow a nice long beard which makes him look like a little rebbele or elter chossid. If you watch these guys, or even listen in to their conversations,(if you understand some russian) you can hear them talking about brighton beach, and just shooting the breeeze(no joke!) and even see them dividing the “loot” at the end of the day.

Then you have the recent old babushkas who come here also from as far as brighton beach, i know this because i have SEEN at least one or two in the area of south flatbush/brighton beach. Its free money for them, and they prey on your guilty consciousness. I feel bad, and nobody should EVER have to be in a situation where they have to beg, but there are people who take away money from the REAL beggars, the people who REALLY NEED the money. its so sad

i love how you can post this yids face online. but all those molesters and perverst —Gd forbid you cant.. bc that might cause them to be embarassed… get your morals straight!

  • Sumgai

I don’t think he’s Jewish. I saw him smoking outside 770 Friday night, and he didn’t seem to “get” it when I told him that it’s shabbos and he can’t smoke.

  • yosef

That’s not true! As a single father of six, when I hit rock bottom the second time it was people like shimon Stock that helped me out!

However people that ask, they ask for a reason. Its not for us to question their belief.

We pushet shouldn’t forget our poor, but people shouldn’t just stand there and “collect” money if its not of importance, vchulu.

look on it. maybe now, when i pass by a lady who is always screaming if you do not give her anything i should be calling police. and have her arrested on aggressive verbal charges….

I wonder if these young panhandlers collect for Hardcore Drugs?.

They seem to young to be panhandling while they could be more usefull in getting even low end jobs.

  • get real

The guy isn’t Jewish (checkout his name) he just makes us (jews) look bad, and there are plenty of other druggies that hang out in 770. We don’t have to support druggies. There are plenty of people in are neighborhood that can use help. So before dishing out dollars make sure you know whom you’re giving it to.

That lady that yells harshly at every passerby should be arrested or kicked out of Crown Heights. I actually used to give her whenever I passed by. I once even gave her $20.00 and she YELLED at me that Im crazy if I think thats enough to pay her rent and put food in her belly and that I should go down the block to the bank and take out more money for her! Since then I have not given her a dime. Someone please get her out Crown Heights for disturbing the peace!

  • That was quick

This thief is already back on the streets. I saw him by 770 today. Business as usual…

  • money for drugs

I see several of those collecting on the streets coming to an area where there are drug dealers-sometimes almost daily!

Do not feed drug habits and give these people money for drugs!!

They need help from drug rehab centers NOT more money to fuel their drug habits.

Apparently, there are several places in CH to get drugs and it is terrible-dealers go out and target youth in our community including bochurim that are in Yeshiva and girls too, who may also get it from friends-often male.

Parents and hanhola must get on top of this situation.
    It is a dire situation.

Also, that lady who screams is not very well in her head unfortunately and should be taken as such. Pay no attention It’s not a personal thing.

One thing we should all remember is that most people do not choose to be in these situations. Once it begins, it is very hard to get out of such a lifestyle. These people need very professional help in most cases.

  • The Usual Disapppointing Suspects

No not the beggers, but some of those who posted here.
Always so quick to judge, always so quick to cry goyim. so quick to cast out. Is this what you learned from the Rebbe, from Chasidus? You do not know from someone’s name if they are Jewish or not; everyone does not come from an East European backround, and even some of those who do have names that are not overtly yiddish. Just because someone is Russian, and not known to you, likewise. More importantly, do you know the meaning of the word Tzedakah, do you know the levels of Tzedakah, if you did than you know that one need not be Jewish to ask for it. A hat is just a hat, it does not make you a Jew, nor does a few words of Yiddish, or Hebrew, but neither does that mean they are masquerading. Wouldn’t it behove one who is reduced to begging to be able to properly say thank you to the giver in a way that is respectful to them. As for the prospect of drug addiction, all the more reason to help. Doesn’t someone with that horrible affliction deserve treatment, don’t they deserve to eat. If you don’t want to give, don’t give, but ask yourself what you would want from a stranger if you were in that position. Have some sympathy, empathy, compasion, Yidishekeit.
I have pity for those who’s hearts are so closed as to also close their pockets to those in need whoever they are.

  • Fight Criminals

They don’t dare do this in Williamsburgh.

I was approached by a tziganer faker in Willy and I told him very clearly that I know he is not Jewish and that he was to leave the area or I’d call “the patrol”. He ran like a rabbit. And that’s because instead of the patrol there having to deal with messira and a rival force, they deal with criminals. Oh, do they ever deal with criminals.

They also deal with the police very effectively.

Time for the messira gang to ship out with the meshugge beggars and let the patrol take care of crime and deal with the cops.

why cant we place one charity box outside the community council for one member to distribute the funds to those that are in need and approved and legit, followed by letter to the community not to give anyone anymore and when someone asks for money they can suggest them to go to the council. we need to wake up! one woman that collects all week takes the bus to Atlantic city for shaboss! the other man that looks spardic with white beard and up hat was spotted doing drugs in Rochester park (not confirmed) and another woman was spotted many times at chase bank on empire making large cash deposits.

I am always happy to give Tzedaka. One of the times that I gave whatever I did have. It was thrown back in my face and the person told me that I was the reason that Moshiach was not coming. It really threw me off, but I still give. However, we should just ignore when those kind of things happen. You know you are doing a Mitzvah and that is what Hashem is counting in.

  • To The Usual Disappointing Suspects

I respect your good intentions, however by giving money to people who are addicted to drugs you are not helping them at all, you are only assisting them in their quest for more drugs. Most of the time when someone offers to buy them food they suddenly become uninterested and just move on to the next passerby to beg for money. In other words, they need direct help, not money.

It’s not very nice to call the cops on collecter, if you don’t like him you you should give anyway it’s still a mitzva.
