CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Over Shabbos Shomrim radios crackled to life on two separate occasions over Shabbos, the first a call for a burglar inside of a Jewish building on Friday night, and the second from the Police Precinct after officers found a young Jewish special needs child wandering on Nostrand Avenue alone.

While men were still in Shul on Friday night a woman called the Shomrim hotline and stated that there was a Black male who broke into her building, 575 East New York Avenue, and was trying to get into apartments. Many Shomrim members responded and upon arrival all they found to be missing was one bicycle from the garage area.

Shomrim Apprehend Burglar & Return Missing Child over Shabbos

As members were searching the building an unmarked police car passed by, the two anti-crime officers asked if Shomrim needed assistance, to which they responded that a report needs to be file. The officers called for patrol officers to respond and take the report, when all of a sudden one of the members found the intruder in the buildings basement and began perusing him.

The perpetrator scaled a fence in the rear of the building and fled out on to Lefferts Avenue, where a number of waiting Shomrim members managed to apprehend him and hold him until police arrived and took him into custody and placing him under arrest.

On Shabbos afternoon the Shomrim hotline received yet another call, this time from the precinct telling them that officers found a Jewish child wandering on Nostrand Avenue and Crown Street, the child was 5 years old and is a special needs kid who could not tell officers what his name was or where he lived.

Once again a number of Shomrim members responded and was quickly identified by one of the members, and the child was returned to his family.

Shomrim members are available to assist anyone at any given time, the Shomrim hotline is manned 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The number is (718) 774-3333.

I saw the work shomrim did shabbos afternoon with the missing kids and I must say I am very very impressed.

After the Shomrim member made the announcement (about the mssing kid) I followed him out of Shul only to see from each house across the street another member emerge.

I am happy and deppresed at the same time.
Happy that we have a group of people always ready to give a helping hand.
Depressed, that I can’t be one of those guys.

    Thank you Shomrim

So confused. In this article, the police seem responsive and sensitive to our needs. In the other articles, the police seem like they wouldn’t bother to change lanes to avoid running one of us over.

The reason for this discrepancy is b/c for the good fortune shomrim came across an officer who was willing to help and realized the capabilities of shomrim to assist in these matters as apposed to other officers in the 71pct who should give up there badges since they are corrupt and obviously dont care to Serve and Protect…

VERY SIMPLE THE POLICE DEPT, R MADE UP OF 2 TYPS HUMANS AND ANIMALS,

  • Full story ...

What this article neglects to mention is that the attempted burgler came over from the NEW BUILDING on E NY/Lefferts which because of how they built the ground is level with lefferts but not east ny and its now a simple jump right over the fence between our buildings since the “new” building ground is higher than the 575 ground.
