CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Last night Police apprehended a serial burglar that had been terrorizing vehicle owners in Crown Heights. As many as six break-ins in one night had residents so frustrated they just did not know what to do, many of these car owners were victims more than once.

Police finally took a close look at the break-ins and assigned a slew of officer to catch this perpetrator, and after a few weeks with no success last night the bugler was busted in the act.

Two anti crime officers from the 71st Precinct were patrolling the area of highest concentration of these break-ins, and had spotted a mini van parked on Crown Street and Brooklyn Avenue with a broken window. The plainclothes officers approached the van to investigate and spotted the burglar in the car and arrested him.

The perpetrator was described as a Black male, slim build in his 40’s with a ‘huge’ sheet of priors for crimes of a similar nature.

When searching him police found an assortment of burglary tools and a GPS unit that he had taken from the car. He was charged with Criminal Mischief, Criminal Possession of Burglary Tools, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Sources told CrownHeights.info that the police is in contact with the Assistant District Attorney and the burglar is being charged with all the crimes.

Gadi Hershkop, a coordinator in Crown Heights Shomrim, hailed the arrest and commended the police department for the good job, adding “that this is just one car burglar and there are more out there,” adding that he urged residents to keep an eye out for anyone acting suspicious or lurking around cars, and to call police and Shomrim immediately.

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

From the photo and description it’s probably Derrick Nelson.
Thank the NY Criminal Justice System, the lawmakers, et. al for giving we Crown Heighters such a wonderul life.
They let him go. He’s probabl been arrested 20-30 times.
Oh, car break-in victims, don’t get frustrated or upset. It’s part of life here in Brooklyn and it will probably continue.
The ‘authorities’ don’t care about us. Don’t forget the 1992 riots (Blood Libel). Perhaps they’re copying the govt. of Israel, or visa-versa?

My car was broken into in Crown Heights last year. At the time, I hadn’t equated the unrest in Gaza, or any part of the Middle East peace process with why it happened. It was a crime. I didn’t report it. I lost nothing. The crook probably thought I had a GPS unit in my car from the mark the suction cup leaves on the windshield. I don’t think of Israel when something bad happens to me, nor did I think of Africans when I was robbed a year ago in Crown Heights. It was a crime both times. But I still believe there are more good people in Crown Heights than the minority that prey on each and every one of us.

Hashem, you let this robber out of jail so many times-won’t you let us out of galus already?

    It’s not the police’s fault.
If the judges that let him off lived in CH he would still be locked up.

raphael, you gotta report EVERYTHING. Then the police know exactly where not to patrol.

WHAT’S THE BIG THANK YOU? IN A DAY OR TWO HE’LL BE BACK DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Car burglaries are very difficult cases to solve as there is usually very little physical evidence left behind after one has occurred.
