New Wave of Car Break-ins and Airbag Thefts

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two cars last night and three more the night before were broken into, ransacked and had their airbags stolen in a new rash of thefts in Crown Heights.

In all the cases the cars had one of their large windows smashed and the perpetrator crawled into the car and took anything of value along with the cars airbags. The cars were all parked between Brooklyn and Albany on Union Street, Carroll Street and Crown Street.

Sources in the Police Department said that this is a new wave of thefts which is new to the city and the Auto Crime division of the NYPD is actively investigating it.

In order to provide tips to drivers on how to avoid becoming victims of such thefts we spoke with Aron Hershkop of Everything Automotive, owner of a local car repair shop in Crown Heights, he recommended that car owner’s use a ‘club’ in order to deter thief’s from taking the airbags. “It’s a simple thing owners can do and prevent expensive damage to their cars” he added.

    they stoles my air bag three weeks ago on shabbos along w 5 other cars of the same block. they were all 2009 models. coasted me 1200 to fix it. now I live a lock on the staring weal as mentioned above. be careful and dont hesitate in getting a lock!
