CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A teenage girl was arrested on Wednesday in the fatal stabbing of her 16-year old cousin in her family’s apartment in Crown Heights the day before, the authorities said.

The girl, Tiana Browne, 15, of East 21st Street in Brooklyn, is being charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of Shannon Braithwaite, the police said.

Shannon’s mother, Marva Braithwaite, discovered her daughter’s body about 4:30 p.m. near the entrance of their apartment on Empire Boulevard near Troy Avenue. When she tried to open the door, the path was blocked by her daughter’s body.

Relatives said that two of Shannon’s teenage cousins, both girls, had recently moved into the apartment, and that Shannon often fought with one of them.

A law enforcement official said Tiana was one of those cousins and that she had made a statement saying that she had stabbed Shannon multiple times with a kitchen knife.

She is being charged as an adult and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life, the Brooklyn district attorney’s office said.
