He’s Killed on Brooklyn Basketball Court
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A 22-year-old man died after he was shot on a Brooklyn basketball court, staggered to the park’s rest room and collapsed, police said Saturday.
Ellison Butler was standing with friends in Lincoln Terrace Park (AKA Rochester Park) in Crown Heights when shots rang out just before 8:30 p.m. Friday, witnesses told police.
Butler took a bullet to the chest, but managed to run off the court before he toppled to the ground inside a men’s room, police said.
A friend called 911 and paramedics rushed Butler to Kings County Hospital, police said. He died a short time later.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.
Investigators canvassed the neighborhood looking for ballistics evidence and footage from nearby surveillance cameras.
Butler, who lived nearby, had several sealed prior arrests. Investigators are unsure if those crimes were connected to the shooting, a police source said.
