CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Earlier this afternoon Shomrim responded to a call from a store manager saying that he was in pursuit of a shoplifter, a number of members responded and caught up with the shoplifter, an older Black woman, on the corner of Carroll and Brooklyn who willingly stopped and began apologizing for the theft.

The store manager was alerted to the theft by another customer who spotted the woman filling up her bag with various items. When Shomrim members arrived on scene they noticed that this woman was apprehended for shoplifting in the past.

Police officers arrived on scene shortly after the call from Shomrim and after asking the store manager if he wanted to press charges, to which he responded affirmatively, the officers placed her under arrest. A quick check revealed that the woman had a record for such prior offences.

A search of her belongings turned up 8 bottles of ‘softsoap’, a liquid hand soap, which was taken as evidence until the shoplifter was processed, and was then returned to the store.

Police officers thanked Shomrim for their assistance.

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

Crime pays for the government. Let them loose so the cops have more work. And we pay more taxes for policing services. Seriously!

  • Expect to see more

Not justifying her in any way, but if the economy continues going the the way it is now, even putting a cop on every corner won’t stop theft from spiking.

  • chrup!

at least charges were pressed not like last time where the owner felt bad cause the lady was a “nebech” cause she had a child.

  • crazy

omg… i was there right after it happened..its so crazy…y do these things keep happening???

  • intrested person

how do these people have the guts to do that i mean it’s always happening

  • stop being racists

answering to Anonim -not to defend the thief in the story, but it’s disgusting to accuse someone of drugs just because they have no money to buy soap!! write normal comments!!!

WHy does the webmaster print the comment that she his her heroin marks? What kind of racist crap does a hasidic website have to publish? Why can’t this be a place where serious comments on a sad situation are posted?

Nobody thought to consider why she stole. Nobody knows if she was trying to feed a family member, or she was short on cash for her own needs.

Genuch shoin with the comments about blacks being on drugs and other things.

Maybe we should go to the rabbonim on the beis din and get a ruling on prohibiting mean biased comments.

Webmaster, you are now alerted to this.

    Ossie,

OK. I agree with you completely, that the racist poison does not belong on this website.

Where we part company is on that maybe ”she was trying to feed a family member,“!!!

8 bottles of SoftSoap — come on!

Even if she was ”short on cash for her own needs,” and even if she was foolish enough to shoplift, she did not immediately NEED 8 bottles of SoftSoap!

There’s a church by my house that hands out food, toiletries, etc. to whomever says they need it, no questions asked.

It sounds to me like this unfortunate lady has a compulsion to shoplift.

Let’s not open our minds so much that our brains fall out, Ossie!

(But, again, I agree that the racist and lowlife comments have to be excluded. In my opinion, a commenter who sends racist and/or gutter language remarks deserves to have their comments excluded, no matter how valid their other points may be.)
