Stone Strikes Baby Stroller, B”H No Injuries
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Sunday, late afternoon, a mother on her way home had a stone land on the sun screen of her stroller with her child inside. The incident took place in front of 446 Kingston Avenue, [between Empire Blvd and Lefferts Ave], a large co-op building, on Sunday afternoon.
Completely shocked the woman approached a police foot-post on Empire and Kingston and informed him of the incident, who responded that she should call the department of buildings, not satisfied with the answer she made a fuss and the incident was given better attention.
Detectives and the brass of the Precinct responded and began investigating the incident, initially checking the roof for debris to see if it was possible that the rock fell of its own accord, but found the roof to be meticulously clean.
Detectives then went knocking on the doors of the apartments with open windows and while standing outside the building a children’s toy came flying down onto the sidewalk. After determining where the toy came from detectives spoke with the father of a 4 year old child who apparently was throwing things out their 3rd floor window, and put an end to it.

b“h the lady and baby are safe. but that is the problem with the 71st police dept. what kind of answer is ”call the dept of buildings“. where does the chutzpa come from to tell a mother who had a stone thrown/fall on her baby stroller such a cold nonchilant response? these are the cops, our ”protecters“? the cops need to be more interested in their job and community. i find it interesting how often i see the cops on ”patrol” talking on their cell phones which means, they at that moment, they are not aware of the area they are patroling
when you walk in the street check it out yourself.
anne
so i guess not everything is a racial conspiracy after all….
Why
THIS is why having cops posted means nothing. They are just there because we kvetched. The couldn’t care less. When we had a noise problem with blaring music way passed 9PM at night we called the precinct and the guy says “you know legally they can do it till 10PM”
then this lady goes over to the cop and he can’t even bothered to check it out.
Rach
What!? I can’t believe the cop told her to call the DOB, he should be ashamed of himself – this is the reason why he is posted at his post! That cop needs to be punished for saying such nonsense.
And what if it was a group of teens?
What if the screen wasn’t up and it hit the baby?
This is disgusting and outrageous!!!!!!
Good on the mother to pressure him to do something!!

This mother should not have to worry about walking in the street with her babies that someone is vicious enough to throw things out a window. Anyone could have gotten hurt. What kind of cop would tell anyone to just call the building department without investigating a little further. SHAME ON YOU!!. You don’t deserve to wear the uniform!!!
Didn’t these parents watch their children who were standing by an open window & allowing them to just throw things out the window!!! APOLOGIZE!!!!!!
????
Questions:
1. What FURTHER action is the mother taking w/police re inaction & couldn’t-care-less attitude by beat cop?
2. Where were all the top officers who should have been around the corner @ the street party?
3. Did she take the cop’s name & badge #?
4. Does anyone else realize that toddlers in apt generally don’t throw stones?? This probably was hoodlums on the roof & coincidentally a kid was tossing out toys.
Confused
From the comments I see two categories: the ‘outraged’ – at the police, the ‘relieved’ that it was just a child.
I suggest a third category – the ‘confused’: A four year old child playing by a window threw a stone out?
Let me get this straight – the kid swas playning with stones in his apartment. Huh?

The only way things are accomplished by the NYPD is if we make a fuss, Boruch Hashem this mother had the seichel to do so. I am glad to hear that her baby is all right. I would love to hear how the cop on foot is going to be disciplined for taking such a stupid and non chalante attitude to this type of story.
as
everytime something happens we say:
he should be ashamed of himself
the cops are so pathetic etc
they dont c-a-r-e…..
when is this going to be addressed head on?
i cant take the broken record anymore, everytime something happens.

It shocks me to know just how “happy” many of our political figures are with the police. We see Shea Hecht drinking Coke and hanging out with Kelley.
We dont need to wine and dine them…We need to make it very clear that they better get to work

The police should be commended for taking this care of the incident, even though it was just child play.
outraged
Maybe the cops should have checked to see if the rock jumped by itself too. Better yet, maybe it was trying to commit suicide! That’s right–it needs counseling. We should have pity on the rock for trying to kill itself.
sad one
Is there any difference beetwen a toy
and a stone????? Neboch.
Mountain out of a molehille
You guys are making a mountain out of a moleille on this one.
I am sorry but this was takn way out of proportion.
Moishie
I heard it was a toy clock and the child said he heard someone say time flies and he wanted to see how.
not gullible
since when do four year olds have access to stones inside their house????
how are we to believe this is where the stone came from…
wtvr
pathetic… it was not racially motivated and not everything is!!!!
Who is watching ourJewish Boys
I was on the women’s plaza of 770 on Shabbos afternoon when a full soda bottle was thrown with force from the roof of 770,landing near me and exploding. How do our kids get up there, who is supervising them and the access to the roof?
Boruch Hashem!
If Police Officer Reuven Silverstein had been there, this never would of happened!! We need to clone him!! Reuven for Commanding Officer of the 71st pct!!!
HUH?
Who’s Reuven Silverstein??

this is part of a latter I just sent Chrles Hynes. We need to get it to Ray Kelly. Does anyone have his email?
Yesterday a woman in the community was walking down Kingston Avenue and Empire Blvd with her kids when a rock came flying out the window and nearly hit them. I understand that eventually they determined it was a 4 year old child “randomly” throwing things out the window and they made it stop. I won’t debate how random or not it was because that is neither here nor there. The real problem here was the response of the police officer to the woman when she said something to him. Even if this was a completely random incident and the kid didn’t mean any harm, it’s still a very dangerous situation. What if the child hadn’t been stopped and he/she continued to throw things out the window, someone could have been hurt very badly. When the woman approached the police officer who is supposed to be stationed there to ensure the safety of Crown Heighters, he told her to call the Department of Buildings. What if it WAS some 15 year old kid getting a kick out of aiming rocks at Jews? It wasn’t, but what if it was? This police officer couldn’t have known it was just a 4 year old. What is the point in raising the police presence when something actually happens they do nothing.
in the hood 4 35 yrs
all the protest and marches r not enough , we must do more , we must learn from our hood how to act .to get things done the cops dont care

I’m sorry, I’m a little confused
do some of the people commenting here
actually believe that the 4 year old
dropping a rock out of a window was
doing it with wrongful racial motivation?
ANYWAY I hope the answer to that question
is no.
TO CHRESIDENT:
OMG A KID threw a water balloon
at you CALL THE COPS FAST…
Are you kidding me? RELAX!
Your acting like a little baby
calling the cops and screaming
racism every time…
This is what you do next time…
GO HOME and get a water balloon and have
a water fight instead of calling
the cops every time a kid picks on you.
al
to the peson who said this is way out of proportion. get real.
so true, where does a kid get a rock from?
good question, didnt think of it.
dah? something really aint right here, eh eh. no way.
especially that someone else had a problem with a water balloon the day before – say sort of thing.
this all adds up to someone looking for trouble. shomrim, should keep an eye on where this came from
and, also, the person who had the prob with the water balloon should call shomrim and report it!
