i know ill get crap for this…but i feel kinda bad for the guy, sick and nebach stealing silver foil and a hat!?! he wasnt robbing mink jewelers.
well i guess every action has a reaction and yeah, he will get what he deserves but he is obviously homeless and needs basic needs.
    oh yea, good job shomrim

  • Stop the crime

Looks like a senior citizen who has fallen on hard times. My heart goes out to this guy but crime is not the answer.

  • not impressed

so many cops for such a small incident. these cops are trying to look like they are doing something.

  • tired

y was he taken to the hospital, because he shoplifted? there was no need for ems @ this scene. no injury or pain or illness, just a prep thinking by going 2 the hospital he’ll beat the system and not have 2 stay in holding

  • shom fan

hey the shomrim 2 days 2 arrests
can you keep it up id love to see a chazokah

  • Get Real!

WOW! Some “serious” action in Crown Heights…
It’s just too bad the US Army,FBI,and S.E.A.L’s special units were not called to the action…Or better yet, maybe the NYPD should of flew in the elite IDF bomb squad for such a major event. This is a joke! I live in Israel were we fight SERIOUS day to day crime…And here you guys are all “falling apart” because some homeless dude shoplifted a bar of soap & “SARAN-WRAP!” I am not saying not to overlook his bad deed….but does it really need this much attention?

  • SR-embarrassed 2 be reading this article

I can not justify this man’s actions, but i think there is no need to announce his crime to the neighborhood and make a whole scene out of it.
it is surprising that we never see any videos of our own crimes, caused by our fellow jews.
with publicizing a petty, minor crime like this just tells people that we are biased and racist.

  • fed up with complainers

“Me” and “Stop the Crime” seem to be the only people posting here with any heart or compassion. Have any of you ever been homeless and desperate? If not, how can you judge? And complaining becuase there are too many cops? What does it take to satisfy everyone? Complain when they’re not there and complain when they are. Make up your minds.

  • Excuse?

a mench hut amul gezugt tzu mere: Never Steal! aber ich farshtei nish why keiner nish hut getzugt dus to em, ich farshtei he was on drugs, aber is that an excuse?
if we all could give that excuse, Crown Heights would be a disaster.

  • Let Me Rant

Too all you beautiful souls out there that have so much compassion for this ‘poor sick homeless dude’, I have one question to ask you. What if it was you? What if it was your store? What if it was your house?

If you caught this ‘poor sick homeless dude’ in your kitchen stealing a roll of silver foil and a hat from your coat closet, what would you do?

Let me answer, I would call 911 and make sure to prosecute this piece of vermin, no matter his age, gender or race, to the fullest extent of the law. No one has the right to break the law, be it by robbing my store or your house, NO ONE!

Every crime starts small, first its breaking a car window to get some change so the thief can get his next hit of crack, the next time he will mug someone, then the next time he will stab someone while mugging him. Crime needs to be ‘nipped in the bud’, every single time.

    To “Get Real!”;
Last I checked we are reading CrownHeights.info, not IsrealNationalNews. Your entire comment is stupid and irrelevant as it sounds.

    And to “SR-embarrassed 2 be reading this article”;
Oy! Nebach! Noch a shaineh neshomeleh. “with knowledge comes power” this website has given the Crown Heights community more power then its ever had in recent times, it is singlehandedly responsible for crime being a hot button issue and keeps police on their toes, thank g-d.

The reason [quote] “it is surprising that we never see any videos of our own crimes, caused by our fellow jews” is simply because we are a law abiding people, these incident do not happen. Yet when g-d forbid such an incident does in fact take place, ive recalled seeing it published here as well, along with tons of criticizim.

And please tell me how in the world does this sentence even make sense? [quote] “with publicizing a petty, minor crime like this just tells people that we are biased and racist.” Haha! Quite the reverse! It alerts resident that this kind of stuff does happen, and it keeps us alert and prevents it from happening in the future!

One last point, to all those of you who are complaining that it took seven cops for one shoplifter, this just proves yet another unfortunate and sad truth, no matter what will be done for you, you will never be happy and satisfied.

Thank you NYPD for showing force and resolve in vigorously perusing these incidents. And let us not forget our dear Shomrim members who give from their own free will and time by patrolling our streets, a job which all of us are happy to THEM do, thank you thank you!

    </end rant> :)

  • He deserves what he got

To all you bleeding heart liberals… I agree with “let me rant”, it doesn’t matter what you steal, stealing is stealing. The torah doesn’t say, if you are sick and homeless you can shoplift. And just because he said that he is terminally ill, it doesn’t mean that he was telling the truth, perhaps he was just looking for leniency.

He deserves what he gets. This is America, remember, the world capital for benifits. He can go to a shelter, get welfare, there are unlimited services for people like him, he does not need to shoplift.

  • CH Resident!

Thanks Police for this major response, we are happy that we got such a good response, and may the police continue responding fast and with a lot of officers,

    Thanks, a Resident!

  • wtvr

it’s not that ppl are complaining that there are a lot of police there- it’s that we would need them more when something bigger happens…..
oh, btw- tzippy you’re in the video.

  • rachel shteir

for a book im working on on shoplifting, i would love to talk to anyone about this or any of the incidents or issues posted above.
