Bochurim Summonsed for Hanging up Posters

The minivan pulled over at the intersection of Carroll and Kingston.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two Kvutzeh Bochurim driving around Crown Heights in a minivan and hanging up posters were stopped and summonsed for illegally hanging up signs on city property.

The Bochurim, who could not speak English very well, were assisted by two patrolling Shomrim members with translating and explaining what happened. After receiving the summons they were told to stop hanging up the signs.

Penalties for hanging up signs on city property, such as light and sign poles vary, the maximum fine could be $45 per each sign hung up.

It is illegal to hang signs on utility polls and other city owned property. Readers should be aware that the Sanitation Department can also issue summonses based on phone numbers and addresses listed on signs. I have often tried to help mosdos receiving thousands of dollars in fines reduce their fines, but the administrative judges have almost no leeway to make reductions, Signs will often cost you more than they are worth.

about time! i am sick of walking down the road and feeling that i am in the middle of an advertising blitz! there are far more cleaner ways to advertise. leave poster hanging and wall pasting to Mea Shearim!

Having solved all the major crimes in CH, like Mr. Klein’s (h.y.d.) murder, NYPD can now focus on the smaller, less important crimes?

It’s about time. The Chilul Hashem is great. They put the Rebbe’s picture on every piece of garbage and then it ends up in the trash.

  • YEHUDIS

WHAT A SHAME! THERE ARE SO MANY FUNCTIONS I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT WERE IT NOT FOR THOSE “SO CALLED” DISGUSTING POSTERS. AS FAR AS THE REBBE’S PICTURE BEING THROWN ON THE FLOOR GOES, THE REBBE HAS SAID MORE TIMES THAN COULD BE COUNTED “ES ZOL ZICH BESSER VOLGEREN OIF DI GASSEN”… BETTER THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE AWARE AND ABLE TO TAKE PART IN COMMUNAL FUNCTIONS THAT GIVE CHIZUK ETC. THAN WE SHOULD HAVE A PERFECTLY AESTHETIC NEIGHBORHOOD AND A TOTAL LACK OF CHASIDIK VARIMKIET.

To Yehudis. What you are saying is just not true. The Rebbe NEVER said such words (about using his picture, if at all). On the contrary, the Rebbe stopped many people from using his picture on brochures and flyers because he said I don’t want to be treated worse than an Eved Knaani (in case you don’t know what it means, "a cnaanite slave") who is sold in the street like a piece of property.

What’s worse is that the Rebbe’s picture is used to advertise products (a case in point is the recent sale of NON OLIVE oil for Chanukah with the Rebbe’s picture on the label to entice people to buy the oil thinking that it is olive oil to light Chanukah candles Mehadrin Min Hamehadrin) just to make a buck.

I once hung up signs for a Bais Rivka carnival and had my number on the sign. I received a phone call never to do that again. It is a real crime and the only reason why there are so many signs in the neighborhood is because the organizers of the events are aware of the law and do not leave any contact information. So be smart and don’t hang up any posters and definitely don’t leave any contact info.

Mayor bloomburg has 2 initiative one is graffiti and the other is guns. I support the ruling of people getting tickets for put up such junk up on the lamp post, street signs and other places it destroys the quality of life in the neighborhood we live in.

Most Mivtzoim brochures and program flyers by Tzach. Unless it was a specific request from the Rebbe to the public as the Rebbe talking to the masses asking them to do a specific thing. And then not always.
