Crown Heights Launches Voter Registration Week

Hundreds of new voters have already registered as Crown Heights kicks off Voter Registration Week.

Over 60 local shuls and organizations have signed a joint letter urging all residents to register. In addition, 25 prominent women leaders—including organizational heads, longtime activists, and educators—have issued a letter addressed specifically to women in the community. The Rabbonim have also released a letter last week calling on everyone to register, underscoring the unified effort across Crown Heights.

All the letters stress the urgency of the moment and call on community members to confirm their registration—and to encourage friends and family to do the same.

The weeklong voter registration drive is led by the Jewish Future Alliance (JFA) in partnership with the Crown Heights Shuls Association, Crown Heights N’tzigim, Vaad Hakohol, more than 60 shuls and schools, and a coalition of women-led organizations and community leaders.

Rabbi Lazer Avtzon of the Crown Heights Shuls Association, who is mobilizing the shuls, said:

“Now is the time for every shul to come forward in uniting the community to protect our future, our values, and our safety. We are asking that you reach out to your members and families to ensure they are all registered.”

Rabbi Yaacov Behrman of the Jewish Future Alliance added:

“I met two neighbors Thursday night—onehad a son who was unregistered, while the other had two children who were also not registered. That’s three newly registered voters on just one short walk from Brooklyn and Carroll to my house, halfway down the block. Let’s pick up the phone, text, and WhatsApp our friends and family. We all know people who still need to register.”

  • More Votes for the PACs to Control Means What?

Will an increase in voting registrations result in an increase in Jewish advocacy by the Crown Heights Political Action Committees?

More specifically, will the PACs endorse issues and not just candidates.

Will the PACs provide their email addresses for people to contact them.
