Jewish Future Alliance Update: Three New Parking Spots To Be Made Available Due To Construction On President and Kingston
President Street between Kingston and Albany: This project aims to replace outdated water mains, some dating back to 1905, to improve efficiency in local homes, including bathrooms, showers, and sinks.
Since the old mains are being replaced, there may be a few instances this month when water service will be temporarily cut off. However, this will only occur during this month, and residents will receive a 72-hour notice in advance.
It is important to note that the “No Parking” zones are not only for the work itself. Even if no work is happening at the moment, parking is still restricted due to the need for space for heavy equipment, maintaining traffic flow, and ensuring safety. If, for any reason, you need to park temporarily, please leave your phone number on your vehicle. This way, the crew can contact you before resorting to towing. However, please note that there is no guarantee they will see the number in time.
Good news: The three fire hydrants on the northside of President Street (On the side of Raskin’s Fruit) will be permanently removed, freeing up more parking space.
The drainage system on President Street will also be replaced to help prevent leaks into basements and reduce flooding.
Kingston Avenue between President and Eastern Parkway: The water main was already replaced in 2011, so there will be no water shutoffs. However, the drainage system on Kingston Avenue needs to be replaced due to ongoing flooding issues (see photo of flooded basement).
We provided the city with a list of important dates with heavy traffic and requested that work be avoided on these dates, such as during the International Kinus next weekend. We are also compiling a list of additional dates for 2025.
The projected end date for the project is September 9, 2025. While this work may cause some discomfort, the bottom line is that it is necessary and will improve the infrastructure in the long term.
