One thing left very unclear in this whole situation is who initiated what, and what exactly happened. One thing remains absolutely certain, is that the teachers did not go out on strike from their own accord. Rather they were forced to do so.
When school began Wednesday the English teachers reported for work just like any regular day, when they were turned away after being told that there will be no English studies until further notice, CrownHeights.info has learned that this was the fault of the administration, rather then the educational arm of the school.
Bais Rivka was as far behind in teachers paychecks as February and in a form of an agreement the teachers were given two of those paychecks along with additional staff, in order to begin the new school year.
Readers please note that comments that are negative in any way will not be published.
Let-s keep it a news website!
Wow! Congratulations crownheights info! It’s about time that keep this a clean website with news, not an outlet for frustrated individuals to vent!. Just for accuracy, English teachers were told on Tuesday afternoon not to report to school.

I’m sorry Webby, but if you want to have an open discussion there must be room for negative comments too. Not everyone agrees with everything that happens in this neighborhood & by stifling opposing points of views you are censoring what you publish. Surely that’s not the point of a free & open press? It makes me think of communist Russia.
I would agree that personal insults should not be published. However, we can disagree but keep it clean and reasonable. I think that’s what I’m doing right now. Disgreement is healthy. Censorship & stifling of opinions is not.
How do you decide what is negative? Anything that disagrees with your point of view, or in this case, BR? I don’t think that’s what you mean, but that’s how it seems. This is a topic in itself & I think it should be discussed further. I hope you WILL post this :)
BTW…I don’t have any more girls in BR, mine are all post HS. I never had a problem with the Administration or teachers & I am grateful to BR for the education my girls received. HOWEVER, I DISAGREE with the teachers working for free. I don’t think they should be going back until they are paid all back pay & the checks clear.

Exactly as I predicted:
They threw the teachers a bone and they gave in and came back like puppies with their tails between their legs.

webby,
as one who posts often, and has had some good conversations with u and your staff about ur website, I disagree with what you say about negative comments. See, if you say, personal insults wont be published, I understand you, but what is so refreshing about ur site is that ppl get to say what they think.
Anyhow, I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a gut gebentched yur with all the Rebbes brochos mitoch harchova, hatoiv banirah uvaniglah.

I think that it is probable that certain administrators receive a commission for raising money for the school in addition to salaries which is quite commendable. To run a school of 2000 students with a certain percentage of parents paying a small percentage of full tuition puts a tremendous burden upon the administration to cover the budget. I think we should all be thankful to Avremel Shemtov (who probably doesn’t take a penny) and the administration for doing what they do. The education and especially the ruchnius is tremendous compared to schools outside of Crown Heights. For those who chronically complain, let’s see them move out of CH and try to cover tuitions bills of multiple tens of thousands of dollars. Parents of Bais Rivka are getting an amazing deal. However, the best school atmosphere is when the teachers are happy, and to be paid on time should be a given. The parents of Bais Rivka should meet in a non confrontational with the administration and determine what can be done to have the teachers paid more timely. I presume the answer will be that parents have to pay more tuition. If there are thirty students in a class and the average parent pays $3,000.00, that is $90,000.00. How little can you pay two teachers (morning and afternoon. What are you left for administrative expenses including upkeep of the building etc. Perhaps if parents paid more in tuition (if they are financially able) then we would have more programs like other schools. The more the teachers are paid, the better teachers our childrne will have. The more the administration staff is paid, the better the school will be run.

This news was quite disturbing for my daughters. They had a whole afternoon planned, pizza for lunch, followed by the HOLY ice cream shop. Shopping at the mall and back to the hood for shwarma and hommous. Oh well, I trust there will be other days when checks will bounce and tempers will flare. Girls, you have work to do, get out your notebooks and STUDY!

personal insults should not be tolerated & disagreement & can be a good thing. One has to wonder How in the world can the administration or whoever is responsible sleep at night & have a clear conscience knowing what they’re doing is bordering on Gezailah & that the lack of pay can very well affect the teachers Shalom Bayis. Any Parent with a child in any Mosad that the teachers have not received there hard earned money should organize with other parents & make sure that my son’s or daughter’s teacher was paid every penny. Even if it meant taking some of the money paid for Tuition & paying it directly to the teacher!!!. To be owed over 5 months of paychecks On Erev Rosh Hashanah Is Disgusting & should no longer be tolerated. We as a community should do everything in our power & more to make sure that such a thing Never again happens to the teachers & the Rebbeim of our Precious children!!
