After Ten Years, Netzigim Have Been Called In Preparation for New Elections For Vaad Hakahol

After a year of incredible unity and breakthroughs, Crown Heights is gearing for another event unseen in over ten years, elections for the Crown Heights Vaad Hakahol.

As a first step in pushing through to elections, which failed the last time they were attempted, a message was sent to all Crown Heights Shuls in early August informing them to elect Netzigim (electorates) to represent each shul.

“In response to the many requests from community members for Crown Heights United to try and help with new elections for Vaad Hakahol, and in consultation with the leadership of the current Vaad, we are hereby enclosing the Netzigim form which needs to be completed and submitted by each and every Shul that wishes to have their voices heard,” the letter said.

Pressure to hold elections grew exponentially after Crown Heights United successfully united the community in the most recent round of primary elections, singlehandedly shaping the outcome of two major elections for public office.

The process, which is expected to take time, will first require an update to the official records of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, as many new shuls have opened, older Netzigim having passed away, and other new realities that must be contended with.

“Once we have all applications submitted, Crown Heights United will initiate several meetings with all new Netzigim and also with the current Vaad, to discuss how best to address these new realities and their correlations with the current By-Laws,” they said. “so that we can bezH work to set in motion the legal processes for new elections.”

The message, which was signed by both Crown Heights United and The Association for Crown Heights Shuls, is significant in that the process has a very good chance of leading to elections.

The message to the shuls was followed by an official letter from the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, expressing support for the push towards elections, and promising to support it.

“We are writing herein to express our full support for this effort and to pledge full cooperation with the plan to organize elections,” the letter from the CHJCC wrote. ” Our current Board has been in office for over ten years and the time has come for the community to express its vision for its own future.”

The letter was signed by Zaki Tamir – Chairman, Yossi Hackner – Secretary, and Fishel Brownstein – Treasurer.

A previous promise by Zaki Tamir more than a year ago came to nothing more than a few people putting their names as potential candidates.
