CH Gets Young Representation in Washington

Democratic National Committee chair, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, hosted an exclusive Chanukah party for Jewish leaders in the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill this Thursday evening. Among the participants were two young and fresh Crown Heights political activists.

New York Political activist Rabbi Yaacov Behrman and Crown Heights resident Rabbi Getzy Markowitz were among the select guests. Their attendance highlights a new trend of young and energetic individuals getting involved in the political scene, bringing long absent and proper representation to the halls of power.

Among the attendees was Israeli ambassador Michel Oren, U.S. Rep. Elliot Engel (D-NY), William Daroff Director of the Washington Office of The Jewish Federations, and Chaplain Lt. Col. Larry Bazer.

Speaking to the gathered crowd ambassador Oren related how this year we celebrated a modern day miracle, with the Iron Dome defense system – which was funded by the United States – prevented untold amounts of damage and death during the eight-day war with Hamas in the Gaza strip.

Rep. Shultz spoke to the crowd about the deep friendship and unbreakable bond between the United States and the Jewish State of Israel.

Speaking privately to Rabbis Behrman and Markowitz Rep. Shultz expressed her admiration of Chabad and her personal experiences with Chabad in Florida. She also spoke of her friendship with Rabbi Levi Shemtov of American friends of Lubavitch.
