This months Precinct Council Meeting started prematurely with a very large crowd led by Geoffrey A. Davis founder of the James E. Davis Stop Violence Foundation who were there to protest the alleged beating of 23-year-old Patrick Lawrence in his apartment. Mr. Davis began with yelling ‘no justice, no peace’ with the crowd chanting after him. This was in response to officers of the Gang Squad of the Brooklyn South Task Force’s execution of a search warrant based on information that there were illegal guns and drugs in the President St. Apartment.

The Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct, D.I. Vega got up to speak and the crowd continued chanting not allowing him to respond, the crowd made their way outside where they continued their chanting to the cameras and then dispersed. After the crowd left Mr. Vega said that it would only be right that after they were given the chance to talk he were given the chance to respond. He then explained which incident they were upset about.

Precinct Council Meeting Hijacked

This months Precinct Council Meeting started prematurely with a very large crowd led by Geoffrey A. Davis founder of the James E. The Gang Squad of the Brooklyn South Task Force is a task force which presides over all precincts within the Brooklyn South Command and functions on their own within the confines of the precincts, had received information regarding illegal guns and drugs which were stored in this apartment by two brothers that stayed there occasionally. Based on this information the Police have obtained a search warrant and officers from the Task Force entered the apartment and proceeded to search the place. The victim claimed to have been beaten by the police during the search.

After the words from Mr. Vega a few from the group who lingered to listen got up to ask questions at which point Mr. Karl Cohen President of the Precinct Council took the microphone and notified the present crowd that the meeting will now begin as normal with the reading of the meeting minutes by Mr. Stuart Balberg and words from our Councilwoman Ms. Letitia James regarding the outburst from outsiders, she said it would not be tolerated and would be dealt with in the proper channels.

Various issues have been raised including loud music form cars past 11:00pm which the Executive Officer Cpt. Shouldis noted and said will be paid more attention to. Another disturbing issue has been raised in which a resident who had their car broken into had been calling the precinct for nearly 5 weeks in order to get a follow up on her police report when she was finally told that the report does not exist, The X.O. quickly told her to come over to him after the meeting to talk about this.

One more concern raised by a resident was to be notified as to the progress of the investigation into Mr. Ephraim Klein’s Murder to which the X.O. Responded that the case is growing cold and there are no new leads.

This meeting takes place on every third Thursday of the month at MS 61, located at 400 Empire Boulevard (on the corner of New York Ave. diagonally across from the Police Station) at 7:30 p.m. We are very sorry for not notifying all our readers of this meeting in advance.

Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct, D.I. Frank Vega
Mr. Stuart Balberg
Councilwoman Ms. Letitia James

The balagan did not last long and it was kind of entertaining – it was a far cry from the days of Sharpton ymach shmo.

They accomplished nothing with their shtus (the officers were not from the 71st and this was not the proper forum for their protest), and when we have grievances with the police department, we should not follow in their silly footsteps.

On the other hand, is Geoffrey Davis really an outsider and does he usually act this way? Isn’t his office located on Brooklyn Ave in our part of CH? I was not living here when his brother was shot, but from what I read the late James Davis seemed to be a responsible politician and leader.

  • James Davis

    Janes davis responsible politician?
Do you have any idea how he was killed? He was having a shootout with a ‘friend’ in city hall!

  • THE PHANTOM POLICE REPORTS

I guess I can be another on the list of people who are still waiting for my number of the police report regarding my labor day window smashing on my car.

  • Bitzie

Geoffery Davis is a sharpton wannabe who tries to run for office and is generally regarded as a conniving, but somewhat hapless, fool. I heard that NYC Council Member Charles Barron was also there. Barron is more dangerous because he is smart, tactful, and works inside/outside the system. He is also critical of Israel (but this incident had nothing to do with our isssues, thank G-d).

For the record, James Davis was a good person with a good track record whom I belive was a friend to the jewish people and I had the plessure and privlege to work with him. But when it comes to his brother Geoffery I have to agree with Bitzie, we all remember after his brother was shot ( by a member of the african american community) His first reaction was to blame the jews. He is a mindless hack who is trying(unsucsesfully)to follow in his brothers political steps.

Yes, Barron was there. I was away when Davis was shot so I got half the story from the liberal online press.

Trouble’s account meshes with what I read but I was 8 time zones and a continent away from the action at the time :).

Mr Stuart Balberg and Mrs Batia Brandel are the official members of the council who are from Anash.

Please notify our community, well in advance of these meetings. It is important that we represent ourselves there.

Geoffrey Davis has been a friend to the Jewish community all his life. He’s lived in Crown Heights for over forty years. He and his brother james Davis spoke and talked with the Grand Rebbie on countless ocaasions, in fact the Grand Rebbie appauded thier community efforts and fist said to them “One Community One Voice”. Please readers learn the history of the Davis Family in Crown Heights. Geoffrey lashed out at the 71 precienct for there lack of investigation against Mr. Klien’s death.

We all have to live together. Davis is a good man with good intentions for ALL people of Crown Heights. I will support him every time
