A Shul with a History of Mesirus Nefesh

In connection with the fire that broke out today in the Oholei Torah Kindergarten East Flatbush division we are presenting you with a selection of Pictures taken of the Shul and its members from sometime in the 1970’s.

Reb Michoel Teitelbaum, who was then the shammas of the Shul, worked with great determination and mesirus nefesh to keep the shul open, as long as even one or two Yidden lived in the area and came to daven. Reb Michoel fought a battle that no one thought he would win, yet as a true chossid he was not deterred, and even went to court to keep the shul open. Against all odds, Reb Michoel won and kept the shul active for many, many years afterwords.

Many members of the Crown Heights community went every day, including shabbos, to keep the shul open and available. Reb Michoel, after he fell ill, insisted that the shul become his new home, where he davened, slept, ate, and ran Oholei Torah. Reb Michoel, as a true chossid, saw to it that the Oholei Torah Kindergarten would continue in the location, ensuring a solid future for a building that meant so much to him, and to so many of its former members.

As the Fire Marshalls are still determining the exact cause of the blaze, the Management of Oholei Torah is working throughout the night to ensure that makeshift classrooms will be ready for the opening of school on Monday morning.
