This revelation came to light at a Chassidishe Farbrengen that was being held in 770 on Shabbos afternoon, where someone recalled the Rebbes unusual statements at the time that the Rebbe said during a Sicha on Erev Shabbos when the new Sefer Torah of Moshiach was being dedicated.
After this was relayed to CrownHeights.info we did not rely on the statement by hearsay, and opened up the first volume of Sichos Kodesh, and there it was, black on white, and in audio as well.
The Sicha, Free Translation:
This is also the Erev Shabbos of the Yom Hahilula [passing] and to our dismay we need to explain and warn that this isn’t a thing that we go – in the language of the nation – making a “banquet”, or a “dinner”, or an “installation” etc., and we wait for sensations and “statements” etc., it is the Yom Hahilulah of a Tzaddik and leaders of our generation, and there is no place for “statements” and “dinners” and “installations”, only to speak words of Torah and Yiras Shomayim and words of awakening so that it will come down in actuality to every single one who hear, and we should do this with Simcha and Tuv Leivav, and then we will Zoche in this golus, the great darkness will end and the beginning of the Geulah will begin, until the real and ultimate redemption by Moshiach Tzidkenu very soon.

Today – in your opinion – does Rabbi Braun have semicha? the answer is: even according to reb yoel, he does have semicha. The only difference is, that according to 5 distinguished Rabbonim (zabla bais din), he had semicha for some years now, and according to Reb Yoel, he just got Semicha and Dayunos recently. Remember, this is BEFORE he is inaugurated as Rov.
Do you know that the letter that Rabbi Zirkind wrote to the Rebbe stating that he personally examined the Semicha documents from the newly elected 3 Rabbonim – in 5746 – was LONG after the elections? unless you have other evidence, it seems like they didn’t have to prove any semicha qualifications until long after the elections – BEFORE ACTUALLY ASSUMING THE MANTEL OF RABBONUS – “hachtara”.
Do you know If there was any condition there that the semicha had to be dated prior to the elections (in 5746)? obviosly, there was no doubt as to the fact that they were accomplished talmidey chachomim and very knowledgable in Halacha, but befoer they were actualy inagurated, the Rebbe wanted to make sure they actualy had semicha.
It is quite obvious that Rabbi Braun is an accomplished Talmid Chochom – not from today or yesterday. the only argument is: did he get the actual Semicha document 5 years ago or 2 months ago. Today, EVERYONE agrees that he has semicha and dayanus.

Just because they used the grammatically incorrect word of installation where they probably intended to use the word inauguration, doesn’t mean that the Rebbe is against it! Your whole proof is that the Rebbe mentioned installation, well, the word should be inauguration so end of proof!
Either way, the Rebbe was referring to official dinners and events of that sort that shouldn’t be done on a day like Yud Shvat. I dont think the Rebbe would oppose the inauguration of a Rov for Crown Heights to be done on a day like Yud Shvat, aderabe, such a thing needs to be done ASAP!

#16, R Osdoba did have extensive shimush during his rabbonus in Denmark. When you’re the only rov in a community you have to deal with everything, and you learn quickly. And of course when he came to CH he sat on dinei torah and worked with rabbonim, learning from them. Mr Braun, on the other hand, has had NO shimush in Sydney. He had no involvement in the Beis Din, or the Kashrus Authority, or the mikveh, or anything else that would constitute shimush.
