More Insensitive Ticketing in Crown Heights

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Welcome back from your summer vacation, welcome to Crown Heights for Tishrei, now pay $115 for double parking. That’s the message tens of motorists got this afternoon and a squadron of Police ticket agents set out and ticketed cars for double parking just seconds after 1:30pm.

Alternate side parking regulations force motorists to move their car for an hour and a half, four times a week, enabling street sweepers to clean.

Just last month a ticket agent went on a rampage on Crown Street and ticketed cars that were double parked for alternate side parking while it was still in effect, infuriating residents, and now they are at it once again.

A number of cars were ticketed starting at 1:24pm, through 1:34pm, and at $115 a pop the six summonses netted the city a cool $690 off the backs of hard working New Yorkers.

“I would warn other drivers not to double park, but where am I supposed to park when alternate side parking is in effect” asked one of the drivers as he was showing us his ticket. “Even parking in a garage in Manhattan for an hour is cheaper than this!” he concluded.

According to the Department of Transportation “Double parking of passenger vehicles is illegal at all times, including street cleaning days, regardless of location, purpose or duration” meaning that when people double park during alternate side parking they can be legally ticketed.

you have no sympathy from me
    walk, phone, order delivery
    support the local economy
    start a pedicab business
    no one really cares
the place is 5 by 6 streets

We need to get legislation introduced that would make it officially legal to double park during alternate side.

  • to poster #2

yeah, right, let’s get our newly-useless Vaad on the case. Just one more thing for them not to care about, they probably all have garages.

  • happy

when your wrong you wrong but why dont they give tickets on sunday buy the churchs on ocean ave or eastern pkwy ect ect.

  • another reason i don-t live in new york

i can’t believe you’re crying about getting a ticket for double parking. insensitive? isn’t it insensitive and just dumb to park someone else in?!

  • yup

I got myself one of these tickets last week. It is better to forget to move your car altogether by alternate side parking. At least then the fine is $45.00. When you forget to move it back it is $115.00

Alternate side street cleaning must stop!

It is an outdated program that is still around only because it is a huuuuge source of income for the city!

the street cleaning trucks are useless! they do not clean. THe city hasn’t bothered to update them with the latest cleaning technology because they are not meant to clean! they are meant to cause tickets!

    write letters! complain!

The cleanest streets in Brooklyn are the streets that do not have alternate side parking ever! fact!

  • mendelbaum.

we should insitute onion and egg day. any lowlife traffic agent spotted should get the shower. this is insane.

    Place of Occurrence
    In Front of Carroll St
Don’t they have to include the house # that the car is parked in front of??

  • No use for traffic cops

Two weeks ago, an over zealous ticket agent got creative and ticketed my car at 12;58, citing the wrong regulations for my block! I was parked in front of my home where it was legal after 12:30. As did at least one neighbor.

Guess he had to make his quota and didn’t care how. Do they get credit for improperly written tickets?

Lesson: read your ticket VEEERRRY carefully. And remember to be especially careful during the last week of any month – when the traffic cops that procrastinated (or slept on their shifts – yes, I’ve seen them do it) have to cover their quotas.

Don’t worry, us New Yorkers don’t want you!

If you read the article, you would understand that the double parking has to do with alternate side parking, which is and has always been an accepted practice. It’s very nice for you to say with your massive out of town streets that there is no need for this, but in the city, you have no choice but to double park by alternate side parking.

To # 9, the grace period is only if you forgot to initially move your car for alternate side parking, not if you forgot to move it back.

  • we are missing the point

this is to show everyone how sensetive and human are our police officers and at the command of the fat schmukanety who coocek the books not to show the increase in crime but send the choliros to write tikets at 1:31 they couldnt wait 5 minut ??
yes mr sgt troise you guys are just pigs.

  • CH Resident

Why do we have street cleaning 4 days a week, when other communities near by have only twice weekly ?
And what are we supposed to do with our vehicles during this time ?

If you want action, you want Chanina.
If you want to eliminate your ticket, go to Chanina.
The Mayor runs the city and Chanina has open access to the Mayor.
He can bring the tickets to City Hall and your problems will evaporate.

  • To Joe Brooke

CH.info has blocked out certain info on the ticket for privacy, all the info was originally there.

  • Plan ahead

Plan a visit or a shopping trip to another area that doesn’t have alt parking during that time frame.

You can’t complain about getting a ticket for something that is and always was illegal, even if cops are often lenient about it. (Yes, they can give you a ticket whenever you are double parked, even during the middle of the street cleaning time.) If you want to avoid a ticket, circle around a couple blocks until you find a spot that is legal for that time. That’s what I do – at worst, you have to walk two blocks from your car and get a little bit of exercise.

    Radical suggestion…!!!!
How about getting rid of some of those eye sores…
those pieces of land where there are vacant buildings sitting for decades and putting up a multi-level parking lot or two
maybe in the area of crown & schenectady that building on the corner – has been vacant for over 25 years —

  • to MG, comment 19

with ur idea soon u will have to walk 20 blocks, the solution is to abolish this stupid thing of alternate parking regulations, they don’t clean the streets properly anyways. i’m sure there are other better options, making a cleaner city and less traffic, headaches, and more productive ppl. we don’t need to feed so many worms that live from our money, they can find better jobs.

  • 311

Did anybody dial 311 to complain that his is generally tolerated except on a school block, and that therefoe people were duped??

  • To #5

No one is being blocked in by the double parking. It is accepted that it is going to happen and if yu need to move you park somewhere else the night before. You are not very sophisticated about NYC life.

  • To #1:

    How insensitive of you.
I agree 100% in supporting local businesses, but that isn’t to say that we never leave the schunah. Think twice.
