Sizable Turnout for ‘Meet the Candidates’

Last night close to 300 residents turned out for the pre-election meet the candidates meeting in Lubavitcher Yeshiva on Crown Street last night. As the event progressed the hall gradually filled, giving hope that the community is giving this election some serious consideration.

Among the usual flare-ups of emotions, and the need to quiet everyone down, meeting moderator Dr. Tuvia Tatik did a commendable job keeping things moving and giving candidates the opportunity to speak.

    Question is directed to Mr. Poltorak:

    Question One:
    In an email you sent to the Zablo Bais Din you referred to the Shomrim Volunteers as the “Shomrim Gang”, can you please elaborate?

    In your last ‘meet the candidates’ meeting, which took place a year ago, you spoke about ways of achieving peace in our community. Can you elaborate on how you plan to achieve that, keeping your obvious biases in mind?
    Question Two:
    On December 29th, 2007 you were not in the Vaad nor were you in Hatzala. Yet on that night you were in King’s County Hospital. Can you please explain to the people gathered here what you were doing there? Who called you? And what did you tell the police?
    Question Three:
    Being a man of peace! Crown Heights Shomrim has a 144 million dollar lawsuit against them. Can you tell us if you have any roll in it? And if not being that you are Mr. Huebner good friend what attempts have you made to try to have the lawsuit withdrawn?

    Question One:
    We have recently been made aware of your involvement in having 4 members of the community arrest, this was due solely and directly because of your complaint to the police and subsequently to the DA, can you please tell us how you are now qualified to run in these, or any, elections?
    Question Two:
    In recent letters to the community you were described as an individual who is always on call to help Jews who get caught up with the law. Can you tell us when did you become aware of the arrest and eventual trial of Seven Jews in our community? And when you became aware what have you done to help them?

    According to Poltoraks responds or better yet accusations last night.
    The Shomrim are a “gang” because they use their right to free speech (?).

    These individuals in Shomrim which were falsely arrested; charged (with over a 100 counts) and later went to trial for six weeks, facing 15 years prison, for a web site (which at the time of the Mesira) did not exist (?)

    What Poltorak did last night was confirm his involvement in the Shomrim Six Mesira, all he did was try to excuse and justify it.

    [From experience] As a man of law (a lawyer) Poltorak should have known better. Had he been in a court of law, the judge would have stricken his comments from the record.

    Poltorak should us last night his true color. He repeated propaganda and justified and excused a Mesira/blood libel.
    We saw Poloraks hate and obvious biases towards a group in Crown Heights.

    The hate and jealousy comes first, then comes the excuses and justifications.

    He can help our community with his wide network of people, his legal ties and his ability to tackle complex issues. Until now we’ve heard many excuses but we need change and improvement.

    I am sure they felt that they needed to start working right away, but what message does that send?
    Then they subpeaenaed numerous community businesses and organizations. They may have received heterim, but I was always taught that we keep things out of court. Again, was their mission so urgent to warrant extreme and potentially risky measures? I have heard many saying give them a chance to show what they can do. I think that they have had their chanace and demostrated their attitude and don’t belong in the leadership of our community.

    If what you say is true and someone testified falsely against another man, especially in this case another fellow JEW and in our own community????? Then they really do NOT deserve and SHOULD NOT run or be ALLOWED to run as a candidate!!! This is INSANE! The Beis Din really needs to pick its socks up LITERALLY and START investigating and holding people accountable for wrong doing, and in this severe case for falsely testifying against another Jew!!!!There is no way that Poltorak should even be aloud to SPEAK to the community let alone run for council!!! What is going on in this place??????I simply live here and see so much wrong go blindly unpunished, its a basic principle of living and consequence must follow to avoid any future repetition of such bad behavior and character! I do not personally know any of the parties mentioned but feel so hurt that such a thing could be true? I hope no one takes offense by anything i wrote.

    We cannot afford to be held back anymore! Our community is itching for someone like Zaki, he has the ties, he is very smart, he has a clear plan in which he wants to benefit Crown Heights and he def. has the understanding of our issues in the community…he lived here for ten years and Boruch Hashem has three children here…if we chas v’sholom choose anyone else, we will be destroying ourselves litterally!

    I bet I speak for most of the women in Crown Heights ( who really get things done without politics or fanfare) what a waste of time and effort. So many pictures and so much hot air.
