Kingston Bagel Shop Shut Down by Health Department
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Crown Heights’ oldest food service joint was shut down yesterday by the NYC Health Department. Crown Hot Bagels, know as the bagel shop near 770, had notices posted on its front door ordering its closure.
Many Israeli guests and local residents alike stood outside the shop, wondering why the store’s gate was down.
The reasons behind the shutdown weren’t clear and the owner Araleh Sheinberger refused to talk to us about it. All we were told was that they hope to return to normal operation soon.
If an establishment receives more then 28 violation points during an inspection, a warrant can be issued for its closure.
A base point value is assigned to each violation. A Public Health Hazard is the most severe type of violation and typically has a base point value of 7, while other Critical Violations have a base point value of 5, and General Violations have a base point value of 2. A total of 28 or more points in either public health hazards, critical or general violations requires a follow-up inspection.

How about Mermelsteins??
FYI
The NYC Dept. Health is very rigid with their laws to all restaurants (and rightly so, since we are the ones eating the food).
For those of you who don’t know, the City has created a database which allows you to search all NYC restaurnats/food establishments (you can search by name, neighborhood, zip code, etc.) It tells you the amount of violation points each plasce has and why they received them. Personally, I don’t eat in a restaurant until I have looked them up on this site…..

Interestingly thought, Kingston Bagel Shop does not appear in their database.

Oh know!!! Now where will I go when I want a Bactria Bagel for breakfast???
Shliach from out of town
Not to spread loshon hara, but pashut for the well-being and health of people, we have a Chabad house out of town and brought a group of kids to visit Crown Heights. I picked up bagels and salads from this bagel shop, and there was a chewed piece of gum in one of the containers of salads!!! I was so horrified and disgusted that I’ve only used Bunch o Bagels since. I’m sorry. If you want people to patronize your business, you need to (literally) clean up your act! I am happy they got closed down, and I hope they learn their lesson.
