New Plaque Affixed over the Cornerstone

Much money, time, and effort went into a war over the cornerstone which the Rebbe laid for the construction of the new part of 770. This morning workers were seen installing a new headstone, under the watchful eye of two police officers, over the cornerstone in place where much controversy has brewed.

Sources in Merkos said that this was not done by them, leaving it to be assumed that it was the new Gaboim were the ones that had this done.

Once the work was completed the officers remained in an unmarked car parked nearby, and watched over it.

Based on the comments I see with regards to this stone. To me it seems if they didn’t write anything just left it blank people would still be unhappy

  • Michoel H

I am quite dissapointed about the fact that this is the best compromise they could come up with. “The cornerstone” and that’s all? No mention that the REBBE himself had participated with laying it? What is wrong with simply writing the that the Rebbe placed it, without any titles offending either side of the camp? No MH“M, no ZY”A, no SHLIT”A, just REBBE, the Rebbe’s name and the rest of the text describing the event? Is this going to pacify the extremist on either side? I think not

  • Where is the Rebbe?

Nebach….. the Rebbe’s title is off the plaque. It makes no difference what side you are on. This Politically Correct Plaque makes me sick! “Rebbe do you see? Your name is off your Holy actions”?

No matter what side you are on …The Mishchist or the non-Mishichists, they have made it that a plaque in 770 will be without the Rebbe!

  • ruvi

As a chosid of merkaz this is the correct thing and the correct nusach…. no shlita and no zia

Let it be neutral not worth the fighting etc and the Money to watch it…

    good job gaboyim

  • N I thought Montreal was depressing

I don’t understand. It’s just a stone so why all the fighting? Does anyone know the details? CH is so messed up it’s so sad.

  • Shalom for this new stone, PLEASE

    B”H

Oh, please Hashem, let this new stone just stay there in peace, with no one bothering it!

We all have more important work to do, to bring the Geulah, than focusing on this stone!!!

A good Chodesh, and a good Shabbos!

    Shalom from all parties, b’va’ka’sha!!!!

  • anonymous

this is crazy. cops have to watch this stuff? you know why we’re getting attacked and beaten up by goyim in crown heights? because of stupid sinas chinam like this.

  • kick them out

Who owns 770? Only the owners should be able to do any “renovations” to a structure, not squatters. When is Aguch going to grow a backbone & enforce the court’s decision? Letting these squatters & thugs continue to behave the way thay do just empowers them.

Aguch is a weak, powerless group of nice guys & we know nice guys finish last. What are they waiting for? For these low lives to get a change of heart? Feh!

  • MOSES NOTHIN

ITS ABOUT TIME. FINALLY LUBAVITCHERS IN CROWN HEIGHTS CAN PUT THEIR DIFFERENCES ASIDE. ITS GOING TO BE NICE GOING TO SHUL AND SEE THE CORNERSTONE, THAT THE REBBE LAID, WITH A PLAQUE. MAY WE LEARN TO PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE AND UNITE TOGETHER AS YIDDEN. AND WITH THIS MAY WE MERIT THE ULTIMATE REDEMPTION, AMEN!

  • ann

first what was wrong with the one that was here for 10 years (before the the isreali clowns became “ba’al teshuvas”) that they took down
then after merkos (which are the ones that have the right to do things in 700) put one up and the isreali clowns came again to take it down so they just gave up
now that the “gabayim” (which by the way in 5748 the rebbe said that it if they are on the bima he (the rebbe) will not come down) put up some thing and you say it good????

  • Noson A. Kopel

In my humble opinion, if asked, the Rebbe would gladly have agreed to have his name left off, if it contributes to peace.

  • to ann

can you please give some more information about this: “(which by the way in 5748 the rebbe said that it if they are on the bima he (the rebbe)
i whould like to have some information!

  • IS the stone real?

    Is this THE real stone?

Is there any way to prove that this is THE real stone and not an imposter? Maybe this stone is only made to look like the real stone, just to confuse and mislead everyone? Maybe the real stone is hidden and will one day be revealed? Maybe only certain people (from Tzfas) are able to see the real stone? Maybe we should have a vote to decide if this is the real stone or not? Maybe if this stone is elected to be the real stone, it will be sued in court as an imposter? Maybe Rabbonim should pasken that this is or isn’t the real stone, after we decide who is a Rov and who isn’t a real Rov?

If some think rabbonim are not real, and Vaad hakhol members are not real, and a kever in Queens is not real…then who am I to believe that this rock is real??

I am so confused – but maybe I am not real.

  • Milhouse

This is a deliberate provocation, and cannot be allowed to remain. It doesn’t matter what’s on it, nobody has the right to attach plaques to Merkos’s building without its permission! What would you do if I came up to your house and attached some plaque of my own invention? You’d have me arrested! Merkos already has a court decision in hand affirming it as the owner of the property, and it has a holy duty, as trustee for the Rebbe, to look after that property and not allow it to fall into the hands of strangers. Remove the plaque now!

  • Aussie Boy!

To those who want to know why they didn’t put the Rebbe’s name, they didn’t put a name cause then they’d have to put either shlita or zy’a (causing a fight )so in this case they just put the stone.Peace is most important and Nosson Kopel is right the Rebbe would rather peace more than everything.

  • zev

The rebbe’s name does not explain anything. much like the rest of the building, everybody knows who it belongs too without a title being written across the top. The fact that a stone and a plaque is framed at the enatrance raises questions to those who don’t know better. When they will ask why it is there, they will get answers.

Not everything needs a name tag

  • AN

    B”H

For peace even Hashem allows his name to be erased, as with ‘mei sota’!!!

  • GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks like the police like the action!!

I love it straight to the point “the Cornerstone”

and come on you guys STOP FIGHTING!!!!!

the more you fight over the stone the more retarded you look and you make Lubavitch a WAR-ZONE….

only good things! Moshiach now :D

    –ELI

  • Glad I-m not Lubavitch

Don’t you have any bigger fish to fry?

Btw, all this undermines the work of shluchim worldwide.

  • chaim

what a waste of time and money this is one of the biggest jokes ive ever seen in 770

  • Sholom

    Chabad you are great!
From worshiping a human being you upgraded to worshiping a rock!

    Way to go!

  • Moishe

I will wager that the Tszfatim wingnuts who inhabit 770 will stage a plaque removal, just to spite the gabboim and merkos. Those pseudo-hosids will resort to anything miserable. It’s like having monster stuck in your house.

  • Even Shesiya

Physical evidence that Machlokes causes the Rebbe to be removed from us.

  • Tzvi

    To ann:

Be carefull to said things in the Rebbes name without proof!!!
Don’t forget that there was elections and the Rebbe did not stop it. Don’t you think the Rebbe would stop the election if he was against it?

  • To IS the stone real?

How dare you mock this stone? How dare you mock our Holy Kehilla? You think elections and Rabbonim are a joke? You think the whole issue of Shilta is silly? YOU are a mockery! YOU are the joke! As YOU conclude, YOU are not real!

These are unresolved issues that effect our Kehilla, and whatever effects our Kehilla also effects Klal Yisroel b’ gashmiyus u’b’ruchniyus.

Removing the stone and recent issues on elections and rabbonim started the recession, caused havoc in U.S. support for Israel, brought the allegations against Iowa and NJ.

We are the center of the world, and what happens here is felt there.

  • anonymous

good thing the cornerstone gets so much attention from the cops. meanwhile somewhere right down the block a Jewish girl can be getting mugged but they can’t leave their post of watching the stone……

  • Here come the excuses

Do you really think that whatever the Rebbe said or wanted, went?
Even back then people did what they want!
How many times did the Rebbe demand things from us and we didn’t listen.
How many times did the Rebbe demand from individual to do or not do something and they didn’t listen.

Lear your history about what happened then, go to the people that were originally involved.

    Ask questions..Like.

    Who was the Rav before?
Who decided that we need new Reabbonim.
Why did we need new Rabbonim.
Why make elections (my Rav was not elected, hes my Rav b/c Hes my Rav, He was not MADE a Rav He became a Rav).

How di they approch the Rebbe about it?
How did the Rebbe feel about it in the begining?
Why the Rebbe had no choice (Yes the fact is, under the circumstance, he had no choice, ask those that were there) and had to give in.

How come the Rebbe never asked these “Rabbonim” any question?
What the Rebbe said about them…open a shulchan Aruch and you’ll see thats what you do etc…

The days of intimidating people by saying things like
“HOW CAN YOU SAY SUCH A THING” are over.
Facts are facts, right is right, wrong is wrong…
It’s time to call a spade a spade!

  • To: IS the stone real?

I have a pretty thick skin and don’t get easily offended, but you my friend, are offensive. If I would know who you are I would rub your nose into the stone. You disgust me. Feh.

  • to the one obove the one above me

yes he is mocking the whole thing of shlita an the tzfatim(animals)
the center of the world is not crown heights, it is the rebbe, and if anything, the rebbe is felt mostly by the shluchim who do the rebbe’s will, and NOT the stupid crown heightsers which every thing they do is against what the rebbe wanted (as mentioned before)

  • Zaycher L-churban

It would’ve been better to leave the even hapina without a “headstone” as a “zaycher l’churban”, and a churban it most certainly is! Also, is this the best use of the police department to have two cops “guarding the headstone”? Better they should be guarding THE YIDDIN!

A previous commentor wrote “Removing the stone and recent issues on elections and rabbonim started the recession, caused havoc in U.S. support for Israel, brought the allegations against Iowa and NJ”. This reminds me of what a well known mashpia told me 30 years ago about Breslov. To paraphrase “The problem with Breslov is not that they they don’t have a Rebbe, but that EVERYONE IS A REBBE”, v’day l’mayvin… Rebono shel Olam, have rachmanis on us, we are not cut out for this! May we hear tekias from the Rebbe THIS ROSH HASHANA!

  • Yossel

    B“H

No matter what is ”right“ or ”wrong“…Shalom bring geula. My opinion is that they should have added C”K Admor Adoneinu Moreinu V’Rabbenu..

That would have been non-confrontational, and would have added the Rebbe’s holy name to the stone…Yossel

  • aron

kisvu lachem…she’ain lachem cheilek beloikay yisroel.By totaly leaving out the rebbe it is revealed to us the true intention of the gaboim all along. They never meant the rebbe in the first place.

  • meir rhodes

i understand that zalman lipsker was the force behind the stone. good for you zalman!
