I don’t think we would call this “kids crossing training.”

  • yitzchak

Let’s see if the Hanholo will take care of this problem.

This is a problem during the rest of the year.

  • a concerned person

how would kids do that?? someone can get hurt, chas visholom.

  • unacceptable!

holy cow! the kid in the second picture looks like a five year old. Where are the heck are the Rebbe’s/counselor?

  • ch resident

very disturbing pictures, people will only learn when chas veshalom there is a tragedy

  • P.O.

all it takes is one accident r”l for everyone to wake up. teach your children to cross at the crosswalk when the the light is in THEIR favor, or dont let them cross at all!

  • a parent

thank you for bluring my kids face, he got what for today.

and the camp… they will get it tommorow.

yes I am fuming even thow the light was red. corner corner corner…

  • outraged

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this was during camp, the counselors should be fired, no questions asked. If it was at dismissal, that’s another story, sometimes, I wish you can fire parents too…

  • bochur

what about all the 749 Bochurim running back and forth all day from 749 to 770 in middle of the eastern parkway block!!

  • question

Readers did you notice that there were adults walking on the street and nobody seems to have stopped any of them.

Where were the counselors or responsible members watching for thier safety

  • chresident

why exactly did u post these pictures?????
    Any reason besides boredom??????????

  • me

Yes, their counselor should cross with them. But a whole year a lot of these kids cross alone anyways to go to and from school. They are used to it.
At least they are crossing on their light here.

  • Dangerous

That is unbalievable! If my son ever dared to do such a thing, I would spank him!!

  • mpipik

thank you!!!! ths was the best article I’ve seen on here in ages! a picture is worth a 1,000 words- No words necessary–if your kids walk, or worse, ride to camp/school/shul/ the store, please make sure they know how to cross the street properly – SAFELY-

  • A CONCERNED COMMUNITY MEMBER

    TERRIBLE TERRIBLE…….IF SOMEONE RECOGNIZES THEIR KID IN THESE PICTURES, GIVE HIM A MAJOR POTCH…..THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE; MAJOR FINES SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR JAY WALKING ON EASTERN PKWY/EMPIRE BLVD………THE CONSESQUENCES OF ANY ILL TIMING CROSSING THESE STREETS OBVIOUSLY CAN BE DEVASTATING…WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR A MAJOR CALAMITY TO GET OURSELVES MOTIVATED? G-D fORBID, EVEN ON EMPIRE, CROSSING TO GET TO EMPIRE KOSHER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IS TEMPTING; BUT PLEASE TAKE THE EXTRA TWO MINUTES TO GO TO THE CORNER AND CROSS WITH THE LIGHT;

  • Worried Mother

Oh my G-d, that is so scary- where are the counselors, people in charge. I hope the camp administration sees these pictures and makes sure that the kids never cross the street like this again. Only at the corner when you have the right of way- it is the beginning of the 9 days, please watch over our kids…

  • OMG!!! Did the photograper say anything?

Were these kids on their way to day camp in the morning or already participating in it? Obviously, the question is do their parents need to be instructed in how to teach their children to cross the street, or were they under the supervision (or not) of a camp counselor?

  • cma

I almost saw a kid get killed yesterday. BH the driver had amazing reflexes, otherwise it would have been a top crownheights.info news story.

  • OMG

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OH I GAVE MY KID WHAT FOR!! I AM GOING TO GIVE THE WORLD WHAT FOR!! OH MY GODDDDD OMG!!!

Get over yourselves everyone, be nice to your kids, treat them well, treat others with dignity and respect, and you children will act like menschen too.

  • crazy

This is absolutly crazy!!!! They should have a crossing guard or something if possible….Im shocked looking at these pictures and just think that more kids will do it tomorrow. Every parent must explain to their kid how important it is to cross saftley!

  • Ad Mosai?????????????

oh my goodness this is crazy seriously this should make everyone learn to teach their kids to cross the street properly, the extra 5 seconds it takes to walk to the corner is very important!! also everyone should not assume this is during camp hours, maybe it was after and a bunch of boys were going together..it’s not necessarily the camp although if it was then yes something definately needs to be done!!!!!!

  • yitzchak

Mr Photographer while the picture is informing I might ask you a question“what was more important to take the photo or to try and stop the kid from crossing”????????????????

  • col

“I have lifted my finger everybody, Hello, I have lifted my finger, Photographers please take a pic and post it online, ” i have lifted my finger.

yay so kids crossed the street, woopiedoo i dont get the point

    .
    .

oh shloimy! whats up man i saw you yesterday online, you were lifting your finger… wow how did you do that

  • hire someone for the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This looks like it was taken after school. I was drivig yesterday and i saw children crossing themslves. during the year there is a safety patrol, but for the summer no one is there. they should hire someone for the summer. that street is not safe.

  • dhgfxxgv

why is everyone going crazy just tell your child not to do such a thing so thay i”h tell ther children the same way you tolt them

  • !!!!!

These pictures will definitely save lives… I think the school should have someone watching the kids cross safely but I believe It is %100 the parents responsibility to educate their kids in safety.

I think that the bochurim do not realize that they are showing a bad example to the kids and they should think twice about crossing the prkwy like that.

  • Don-t be in such a rush

    While were on the subject, a request to pedestrians;
Please wait for the white man/Walk sign ON THE SIDEWALK not two feet in the intersection. The time you might save is perhaps a second. The danger you cause yourself and the drivers is immense.

  • stop critizing, do something

maybe instead of taking out the camera, go help the kid cross…

  • it happened to us

I can’t understand those who seem unconcerned and say just to tell the kids not to do this. Kids don’t entirely understand the danger…especially when everyone else is doing it. We lost a beautiful neshama not so long ago in our community. Only months from his Bar Mitzvah, he crossed from school to his home directly across the 4 lane street. The crosswalk is out of the way and besides, everyone crossed there. One car stopped for him but the vehicle in the next lane couldn’t see him and didn’t stop. My children heard the impact in their classrooms. They will never forget seeing their friend lying in the street. Oh how the family suffered as their son clung to life for over a year in a coma. And believe me, the entire community agonized as well. Please, take this seriously. Not just a family here and there. The whole community. Just like the fire dept comes out to schools to teach fire safety, have the police come out to teach street safety. Every adult should consider it his responsibility to stop a child from crossing this way. May your community never have to experience what ours did.

  • chayal

I think these pictures need some information. Were they taken during camp, or at dismisal? Either way, camp should be responsible. Side issue, I feel like many of the Day camps in this community have counselors that are WAY too young for the job. I saw a bunch of kids from one of the boys day camps in the park, and the counselors were sitting and shmoozing, while the kids were acting like chayos. Sadly, there was a shvartze camp in the park as well, and they were way more well behaved then then unzere kinder. I think they should not have high school kids responsible for the young campers.

  • Shoshana

Great idea to post the pictures. Keep it up. Children will be afraid to jay walk if they know they will be seen on CHinfo. Parents can follow up with a reprimand/pedestrian safely talk.

  • Be careful

I saw something similar as I drove down Brooklyn Avenue. Same camp. Different streets. Counselor was in front and the kids (yes, little kids) were crossing by themselves – totally oblivious to their surroundings, as cars were turning onto the street. The kids were short and there was an SUV parked at the corner that blocked the kids so that the turning cars couldn’t see that there were little kids in the crosswalk. It was very scary. And the counselor- he was almost at the next corner, oblivious to the crossing kids that were lagging behind.

  • moshe der g

    oh my

    people just love to scream
after looking at the pictures angle and the angle of the sun
it seems that this was after camp was over

i ma not sure of the day camp policy, but during the year the school policy is kids must go home by bus unless they have written permission to walk by them selves. and then it becomes the parents responsiblity how our children walk home

let us all take a little responsibilty for our children and stop yelling at the moisdois. we need to teach them how to act in public when we are not there. that includes crossing at the corners 9and other things not to be discussed here)

parents this should be a wake up call WE have the responsibility not someone else

  • to col who

    “you have lifted ur finger”

    u realy don’t get it…
we don’t care about ur finger.

  • Angry Bubby

Whoever took these pictures is a responsible person & CH.info is to be applauded for posting them. Our schools & camps DO NOT take enough care of the kids. I agree, the counselors of this bunk should be fired immediately. My grandson is in OT’s camp & I would seriously deal with his counselors if this was him. This is total hefkerous & negligence. I am horrified at what I see!

OT Director, you need to take action & make some serious changes.

Parent of the kid with the blurry face: good for you for dealing with your child AND please let us know what OT said & how they wriggle out of any responsibility.

  • sara

the photographer was driving and shocked to see such uneducated kids! the school is an awsome school it is however the parents job to teach the children safety. does everyone rely on the school system for all basic safety skills? nebach if they do!

  • easy to blame camp

The children were on their way to camp. During the year school has a crossing guard, however in the summer the camps aren’t provided with one. I suggest that the concerned parent volunteer to cross the children to and from camp. Camp provides bus service for a reason and if your children are going to walk to camp, it’s our obligation to teach them the importance of safety. It’s very easy to point fingers at the Camp, but its time the parent take some responsibility.

  • CH parent

Good for you for posting these pictures. Yes, the staff seem to be at fault, but one should remember that this happens all the time-not just during camp- . About time we look after our children, ourselves, and anyone who may be watching us when we jay walk. Let the police station know that it is OK to send out notices about crossing safety. THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR LEGISTRATION? let our children LIVE from our example

  • photo_what

he took pictures to prove a point – but did he do anythign else besides that? like speak to the kids or something like that?

    its everyone’s responsibility.

  • concerned

No potching during the three weeks but maybe these kids need an exemption from that.

  • Need Crossing gaurd

It must be in the morning because they are crossing towards the school. They have the light in their favor, but they crossed a little sooner. big deal.

    Why no crossing gaurd anyway?

  • PROPOSAL

how about petitioning for one of the following two options:

    a) installation of sectionals at the corners similar to what they have done on empire boulevard or;

    b) installing an uncrossable rail along the side of eastern parkway except for at the corners so people’s only choice will be to walk to the corner to cross the parkway.

  • Shmerell

the corner of Eastern parkway and kingston crossing from the north west corner is dangerous, even on a red. The cars are still coming from Kingston ave etc.

  • parent

Funny how everything is always the resposibility of the school, what about the PARENTS. YOU PARENTS make sure your son goes on the bus or YOU take him to school and pick him up. If YOU are too busy, at least take the time each day to remind him how to safely cross the streets, (all streets)

  • You know me!!!

Honestly we can’t blame it on the children, ask yourself how many times you have crossed like that. Yes numerous times and the children are always watching. Remember children look at us adults as role models even though we don’t always do the right thing. correct ourselves before we correct our children.

  • avrohom

    to ch resident

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

omggggg thats my brother omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg this is so embarrising!!!!!!!!!!

  • a mother

this all comes from the way they’re raised. if a parent let’s them cross at a young age by themselves when they have no clue of the danger, then WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! I have children too B”H.

If a child is young enough for a potch, then he still needs to be walked to school.

yes like queens blvd ..good thinking

  • me

dont just take pictures, do something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I DONT UNDERSTAND

This is basically 1 photograph (the one that is steering all this emotion) posted in various cropped levels. Its 1 kid crossing in the middle of the street. the rest are crossing properly at the corner and they have th right of way.. Do you know how old these boys are? maybe they are aloud to cross the street. No need to create controversy without knowing the facts.

    MOSHIACH NOW!!!

  • ch resident

    TO I DON’T UNDERSTAND
1)THE BOYS ARE UNDER 10 AS he is wearing shorts
    2) you said “maybe they are aloud to cross the street”
NOBODY IS ALOUD. IT’S CALLED J CROSSING AND YOU GET A TICKET
i really hope you don’t teach your kids to j cross thinking THAT IT’S ALOUD

  • set an example

if i’m about to cross a street against the light and i see any children at the intersection, i stand and wait for the light, even if there are no cars for miles. that usually keeps them from crossing :) (i’m talking about children i don’t know, not my own kids.)

  • Dudi

    to ‘I DONT UNDERSTAND’:

its not 1 kid crossing its 2
and if no one will do something about it now, next week it will be 10.

    MOSHIACH NOW!!!

  • Perspective

[] “all is takes is one accident and we’ll learn” No we won’t! there have been accidents and we haven’t learned.

[] “Counselors should get fired” No they shouldn’t. They should get trained..what do you expect, the counselor is that little kid in the pic just grown up a few years later.

[] “why are you taking pis, are you bored?” No. If you don’t get how important these pics are I can’t help you.

[] “They should build an uncrossable railing” I think the issue here is that the parents need to teach their kids how to cross the street.

[] “don’t take pictures, do something” The photographer has done a lot more with these pictures to prevent this from happening than if he/she would have told off one or two kids
