OUTRAGE: Drop your Child off at Beis Rivka, Get a Double Parking Ticket!
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — For the second day in a row police have been issuing double parking tickets to parents who stopped their cars near Beis Rivkah and dropped off their kids. One observer noted that yesterday, Wednesday, the police car that usually pulls over cars from making the right turn was standing on the other side of the intersection waiting for the cars to double park then issued them the $115 tickets.
This morning one parent tried to argue with the officer as he was writing the ticket while she was sitting in the car, but her pleading fell on deaf ears as the officer simply handed her the summons. “What is this?! Are they targeting the Jewish Community?” asked one parent, adding that “on President St. and Brooklyn Ave. car double and triple park in front of that school and do they ever get tickets?”
Another parent who received one of these tickets told CrownHeights.info “it’s not like we stopped to go shopping, we stopped to drop our kids off at school.”
Outraged
this is an outrage!
ShlomoInBocaRatonFlorida
Release some curb space near entrance for mothers to pull in LEGALLY to park & drop off children. By doing so NO MORE double park situations. Perhaps leaving a “monitor / person to watch car while mother does drop off. Or leave a older student / volunteer to escort child from car into school front door. Are those spaces for public or teachers??
understanding person
every CHURCH on sunday has double parked cars for blocks and they never get tickets, like the mentioned in the article the school just 5 blocks north of BR never gets tickts for doing the same stuff. who is the spokesman for this community? they should be raising hell
Chaim
These aren’t the only tickets just being handed out!!! I got pulled over for talking on the phone and I didnt have the phone out and no calls were made within an hr of the pull over.
Enough is enough!
Where are all the Big community leaders who are making so much noise with all their machlokes?
Where is the shmira who, when comes time to do a mesira are all over the place?
How long will we let these ba’al mochlokes people ruin our community?
What does the above have to do with tickets from the police?
The police department know all that going on, the shmiras mesira against Shomrim (in fact the Shomrim Command post received a ticked on Wednesday),
they know the fight with the Rabbonim
ETC…ETC…
There is a small group of people who have done nothing but burn this community down to the ground. They have been ruling Crown heights for the last 20 years, not one good thing came out of them, just destruction, mesira and court case after court case.
The saddest thing is, that anybody who only crime is that they did wanted (and did) to do good (whether it be Fisher, Robashkin, Shomrim Etc…), they (this group of hate mongers) have done every thing in their power to take the good people down (with mesira, harassment etc…).
Enough is enough!
My fellow neighbors and friends, please I beg, for ourself and the future of our children, let’s take control of our community, our life, lets wake up and take action (if not action at least not inaction).
Again I ask, where are all these noise makes when fellow Jews are suffering?!!!!
A suggestion
Let them off a block away and ask your child to walk.
BR Parant
How does the city expect us to bring our young children to school? I live about 15 Minute walk, and if I walk with my children that becomes closer to 25 minutes. the morning is always a rush as it is. More important, the kids are tired before they even step foot in the classroom.
The City and the school should designate an official pick up and drop off Area. (no one will abuse this privilege, as we all have to rush to work or what have you!)
Question
Were the drivers in the car the whole time or they left the car to walk the kids inside the school?
Stopping the car to let someone out is considered stopping, not parking, as per the DMV manual.

police are you friends ?
cop is for the community ?
mr simonetty = schmukanetty ?
i never see the shvartze on president and brooklyn geting any
tikets .
this is all our fault . our community elected a edp like chanina to represent everyone but the community.
this chanina is on medication and should not be running milions of dollars in public funds.
Cops wasting gasoline!
B“H
And do they do this to parents at the public Middle School at the corner by the 71st Precinct???
‘Couldn’t be an easier (or ”greener” — not cop cars needed!)way for the cops to fulfill their ticket quotas. Why should the cops drive all the way to Beis Rivkah, or to the goyishe private school at Brooklyn and President???
Tickets mean, but need to do something!
B”H
I will say that there is a big traffic problem on the block of Brooklyn Av. between Lefferts and East New York.
There are often cars TRIPLE- and QUADRUPLE-parked, letting out the girls.
This becomes not only a nuisance (literally impossible to even use the far left lane sometimes!), but dangerous for the kids being let out.
This is especially true since everyone’s in a hurry at that hour. It results in very dangerous jaywalking, etc.
Maybe just ticket the triple-and quadruple-parkers.
PARENTS: Just allow some more time to drop off your girls, OR park farther back on Lefferts or on East New York, and walk your kids to the entrance from there.
mendel
thats funny because in front of the chruch on empire on saterday there is always cars double parked (across from the police department) and on lefferts between troy and scenectady when ever there is a party there are cars double parked
CHDad
very very disturbing – the middle school on east new york ave a few blocks away is always congested with moms waiting for kids or what not – I’ve never heard of this – whoever received tickets should get together with upper brass or the council or I don’t know but this needs to be addressed.
happy
why dont they give tickets by all the churchs on sundays all over when they double park and park on the sidewalks?
angry parent
Yes i do think that it is discused for them to start giving out tickets just like that you are right it is not fare.
Now you are complaing about tickets how about that you have altenite side parking and you have to move your car at 11.00 am and they are there @ 10.55 am waiting to give you a ticket that not fare @ all. and when you come and move your car @ 10.59 they are there by your car to give you a ticket.
Disgusted
also don’t forget the public school next to Bais Rivkah High School on Crown St. You can’t even go near that street around 3:00 on any given day-there are so many cars double and triple parked, with no cops to be seen!!!
me
Today a girl in a minivan got a ticket at the corner of New York Ave. in the morning, so what is wrong? He stopped her at the turn of the corner, so both cars were blocking anyone who wanted to turn! That cop had no patience to turn up the block and give her the ticket then.
sick of leaders
the people [leaders] of crown heights have are losers.
Bloomberg
Vote for Bloomberg = more tickets.
its a big problem!!
who ever got a ticket should go to president and brooklyn with a camera at 3 o’clock and then send those pics in with their ticket.
sfgsdfg
my husband was sitting in the car at kleins and we got a ticket,
fight it, they’ll realize that this cop is bored out of his mind.
chayad
Yes, i witness this daily as i am dropping off my kids. I am scared to get out of the car to cross my daughter. this is sick. someone help!
faces
can you please post pictures of this cop?
mom
How about them sitting on lefferts by the ally way of balfoure and when someone makes that turn oh heven help you.
please post a pic of that cop
qkfngers
all of this just goes back to the original question: WHY DID THEY BUILD THIS CAMPUS WITH NO, ZERO, ZILCH PARKING?????? I will never, ever understand that.
Rivka
A CARING PARENT
If you ever watched what happens when a parent drops off their kids at the school YOU will see that what is happening there is pikuach nefesh, most parents let their children off in the crosswalk which is EXTREMELY dangerous, many parents even back up so as not to have to go around the block and save some time while putting many little children in grave danger.
Many parents double park and then take their children out of the car into direct oncoming traffic instead of doing it on the side closest to the street and keep everyone safe.
when will people learn we are not like any other school we are Jewish people who have a higher moral standard and have to show we care even more for our children, I’m sure if there weren’t so many blatant attempts to put our children in direct harm’s way because someone is tired, or someone is in a rush the 71st precinct would only ticket those making the illegal turn and putting the children in grave danger, what’s going to happen if chas vesholom someone does get hurt what will all the naysayers say then, then they will yell why wasn’t the NYPD there, they are there to save your CHILDS LIFE, BUT INSTEAD 115 DOLLARS IS WORTH MORE THEN YOUR CHILDS LIFE, there many ways to work this thing but instead we use hating words and we opt to put our children in grave danger every single day !!!!!!!!!!!! Just to save a minute when that minute can mean the difference between life and…..
Please i urge everyone in the community pay attention as to why they are giving the tickets and if you still find fault go to the monthly council meeting or ask sgt. troise or lt. cantwell why this is happening and that you find fault with it. Don’t use this to bash the nypd they are there trying to save your Childs life.
BUT TO PUT OUR CHIULDREN IN DANGER, TO PARK IN A CROSSWALK, TO MAKE AN ILLEGAL TURN WHEN HUNDREDNS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN YIDDISHE CHILDREN ARE CLROSSING THE STREET AND PUT THEM IN DANGER, SHAME ON EVERYONE WHO DOES THIS EVERY DAY.
Chaim
Did anyone try stoping in front of beis Rivkah for a second Remain in the car and let your daughter off
wait 3 sec for her to go in to the building and drive away
That what I did a few times and never got a ticket
to qk fingers
there is a parking lot on east new york, but most times the gate is closed….
SOLUTION:
You need to take the badge number of these police and file a complaint.
almost all of these obnoxious police themselvs break many laws while giving the tickets (for example they themselves double park when giving the ticket – that’s illegal).
when you file a complaint they could loose their job (or loose vacations etc.).
WAKE UP
TAKE AWAY THE TEACHERS PARKING ON BROOKLYN AVE AND PUT CONES YOU CAN USE THAT LANE DO DROP YOUR KIDS SAFLY!!!! THE TECHERS CAN PARK THEIR CARS AFTER 9:15,
SOMONE PLEASE WAKE UP AND MAKE IT HAPPEND BEFORE SOMEONE WILL GET HURT, TICKET OR NO TICKET SAFTY IS FIRST!!
A thought
I would think that with a school full of intelligent staff with Jewish kups that a method for dropping off the girls that is both safe and legal could be initiated.
One public school I know of has a staff member standing in front of the school to greet the cars as they leave the students off and watch them as they enter the school so the parent feels safe and the delivery is fast and safe.
13th Ave
woo, teachers’ VIP parking, you could think they commute all the way from conneticut. Perhaps they could make a pick up zone like in the airport, with separate lanes for minivans and busses.
irrepsonsible lazy babies
hey.
double parking is illegal.
stopping your car in the section of the road meant for driving is illegal. unsafe.
stop whining.
stop pointing your finger at others also doing it and getting away with it.
stop blaming the school for not making parking.
start accepting personal responsibility for following the laws and practicing safe driving.
(and i wonder howe many of those who drive their kids to school should be rather having them walk. unless you kid is small and/or you live on S marks and utica, it is not poiosonous to have your children walk.)
poor kids
This problem began when the city instituted the “how far are you from the school” rule for deciding who qualifies for bussing. If you live on Montgomery & Kingston/Brooklyn there’s no bussing. It’s raining. Your kids are 6 & 7. Are you going to let them walk to school, cross Empire AND Lefferts, weighed down by heavy backpacks? (have you seen these little kids in 1st grade? They look like old women, shlepping their stuff to school!)
So if the police don’t want parents dropping off their kids, let them approach the city to re-institute bussing. Better yet, Bais Rivka should do something to get the buses back & parents should complain.
But wait…what prompted this blitz recently? Who complained & don’t edit this out, but we all know it wasn’t Shomrim. But somebody did. Who???
double standard
Drive past the Moravian Church on Parkside by the park any Sunday. I have seen cars TRIPLE parked. Never a ticket & the cops drive right past.
How about Kingston between Empire & Lefferts? Double parked cars blasting out their “music”, the owners washing them, people hanging out & making a real party. No cops there!
St. John’s…lots of double parking. And Nostrand, from Empire to Flatbush? Horrendous!!
But target Jews, they pay up & don’t fight back. And the good thing is, we won’t shoot at the cops!
To 13th Ave
Are you trying to say that teachers don’t deserve the small comfort of a parking space at work? What’s the difference if they commute from Albany Ave., or Albany, the state capital?
You know me!!
I have seen an officer the same officer writing summons on President street and Brooklyn avenue 3 times already from 3:00-3:30. I asked him why, and he stated it is dangerous for the children who arent being picked up to cross with double parked cars. It places them in danger. While the parent are picking up there children the others are in danger. I would assume it is the same issue maybe some teachers are worried about the children walking to school by themselfs. Instead of being so selfish about you child think about others. by the way people who are in charge of the school have complained your fellow yid.
Why are Teachers special?
I totally agree with 13th Avenue. Who are the teachers that they need a reserved parking spot?? If I drive to work I need to allow enough time to find a LEGAL parking spot. If the teachers put the children first they would stop thinking they are so special and give up the spots to allow parents to drop their children off.
Sick of the Whining
What is an outrage is that people consistantly break the law and get upset when they suffer the consequences.
I sometimes think that no one in CH has any idea what is legal or illegal behind the wheel of an automobile.
Red means stop. Ther is no right turn on red, Use a signal, it’s not optional, wear aseat belt, get off the phone. Honking is illegal except for danger, parking next to a fire hydrant is illegal, and most of all double parking is against the law, always, period.
Stop breaking the law!
To Why Are Teachers Special
The answer to your question is that teachers are special because they put their heart and soul into OUR children, same as we do. They teach them all the things that we as parents are obligated to teach them, but don’t, necessarily, either for lack of time or ability. Like in the case of your kids, I guess the teachers will be teaching Hakaras Hatov.
Anyone living in Crown Heights knows there is not enough legal parking on any given block to accommodate 15 or 20 extra cars per day. It is the very very least we can do for our dedicated Bais Rivkah teachers.
Milhouse
For your information, no right turn on red is the law only in New York City and nowhere else in the USA. It’s not obvious, and many people who are not from NYC don’t know it.
Oh Milhouse
Milhouse
As usual you want to be the source of all knowledge, but you are not.
Right on Red (after stop) varies, state by state, and city by city.
Within the 5 boroughs of New York City it is not allowed, unless specifically posted. That’s all that matters here.
As for anyone who doesn’t know that; ignorance of the law is no excuse!
For once, and I mean once, I’d like to see the Jewsih Community take the high road, instaed of, “everybody else is doing it, why are they picking on us?”
Mike Charles
Stop bashing the police they are there to help educate ignorant fools how dangerous it is to not only let your children out in the middle of a busy street, but how dangerous it is to our other children. You loazy people should walk your kids to school like I was walked back in 70″s…….I support the 71st Pct in their efforts to help us and save a childs life!!!! Thank you Capt Simmonettti for sending your men and please dont be worried about these police haters. Keep up the great work and our community should apprecialte and respect you.
Mike Charles
“Double Standard” you are closet cop hater and a racist. How can you compare our african american brethren doubling parking on a sunday mornin IN FRONT OF THEIR CHURCH to the DAILY DANGERS MOVING VEHICLES AROUND CHILDREN causes!!!! This is a dangerous situation and I appluad the school leaders for directing the brave officers of the 71 pct to ticket people. Once summonsed they will correct their ways.
Lets support those who serve us and our children.

A NOYD
i’ve stood in front of a public school many times when school ended and when it began, and let me tell you, parents block traffic, double park, stop their cars in the middle of the block for what seems like forever, and tons of cops in the neighboor hood, yet not one mother or father got a ticket.
Milhouse
To the commenter calling himself “Oh Milhouse”. Right on red does NOT vary by state and city. Federal law provides that everywhere in the USA right on red is allowed, unless it is specifically posted otherwise. NYC is the only place in the USA that has an exemption from this law. And not everyone is from NYC, so many people are unaware of this.
Oh Milhouse
I don’t know where you get your facts from, surely not civil code. You are incorrect, there is no such federal law. In fact quite the opposite is true in NYC, right on red is prohibited unless otherwise posted. But this is not the thrust of my point here. Regardless, anyone driving in NYC is subject to NYC law and lack of knowledge of that law is NO EXCUSE for breaking it. Drivers who disregard the law put us all in danger. Would you tell someone who had their child run over, “ everyone isn’t from NYC, so many people are unaware of this”
Jews pride themselves, laude themselves for adherance to the law, and most times rightly so. We have been influencial directly and culturally in creating the law in every land we set foot. Yet, when it comes to driving, the laws in place to ensure safety are suddenly merely sugestions that some feel may or may not be excercised as convenience deems.
This is nothing short of a disgrace to the whole community.
The situation at this school is but one example, one that with the help of the local community board and the police, might actually be somewhat aleviated. There are countless others however on a daily basis. I can not think of what other civil laws the Jewish community would so blatantly disregard and then complain that they had been unfairly targeted.
When someone triple parks their SUV while chatting with one of the other law breakers for 20 minutes until the incesent illegal honking makes them move, it affects my standing in the world. people generally judge others by the worst actions of their group, unfortunately not the best.
So if only for the sake of other Jews, if you must drive when you drop your kid off, use a signal, pull over legally, have your seat belt on, don’t talk on your phone without a headset, open the door, wave goodbye, and pull away, like every other law abiding citizen who does the same all over this city without getting a ticket.
Thank you in advance for not making CH the epicenter of every negative Jewish stereotype in the world.
BR PORONT
My dawter gos 2 BR and shee dusnt like to cros the st bye herself….and im gtting punishted and ticketed for droping my dawter off in front of BR!!!….this is mishugene!

“Oh Milhouse”, I get my facts from the real world; I don’t know where you get yours. There is indeed a federal law regulating traffic laws all over the USA, and it says exactly what I wrote. I’m not responsible for your inability to read, or for your general fantasies.
And “ignorance of the law is no excuse” is one of the stupidest slogans ever invented. What on earth does it mean? How can a person be expected to keep a law, if they don’t know it exists? The days when a person could be expected to read and know all the laws are long gone. There are so many laws, and they’re written in such impenetrable language, that it’s impossible to know them all.
Now in this particular case there are signs posted at all entrances to NYC, but if one didn’t drive in one could easily miss them. If one lives in NYC for any extent of time one quickly picks up on this quirk of local law, but how quickly varies from person to person. In any case, it’s an example of “Sick of the Whining”’s parochialism; SOTW imagines that the peculiar laws of his/her town are universal, when in fact they are almost unknown anywhere else.
fight your tickets!
All this happens because people from crownheights just pay their tickets and dont try to fight them.
IF YOU PAY A BOGUS TICKET – YOU AUTOMATICALY CAUSE ANOTHER YID TO BE A VICTIM!
(by the way you automaticaly get a reduction if you fight the ticket)
Beis Rivka is SPECIAL!
The police definitaly target Beis Rivka instead of other schools.
why they do it, and what their intensions are-
I dont know
Charles in Charge
To Milhouse
So what are you saying, that there should be right on red so there can be that many more accidents on top of everything else? People run red lights now already so why not just make all the lights green and take down the stop signs as well.
Laws? we don’t need no stinking laws!
Milhouse
To “Oh Milhouse”, I get my facts from reality; maybe you get them from fantasy or speculation. The facts are EXACTLY as I described them. Federal law says exactly what I said it did, and if you’re ignorant of this law then by your own claim you have no excuse.
But “ignorance of the law is no excuse” is one of the stupidest slogans ever invented. It is impossible for any person to read and understand all of the laws. And without doing so it’s impossible not to be ignorant of some laws, and therefore to break them. That IS an excuse, and the best possible one. How can a person keep a law if he has no idea it exists?
Milhouse
Charles in Charge, you clearly have problems with reading comprehension. If you didn’t understand my comment, read it again. It’s perfectly clear what I’m saying, and you don’t need to read strange things into it.
Federal law says that EVERYWHERE IN THE USA EXCEPT IN NYC, right turn on red is allowed, unless there is a sign at the intersection saying otherwise. That’s not a proposal, it’s already the law, and has been for a long time.
Sad sad sad
Milhouse, you are in fantasy land.
Are actually advocating breaking the law to make a point?
What a shining example you are to us all!
Please show your scholorship by citing the exact Federal code that grants “right on red” in every inch of American except backward NYC, in your imaginary world.
I’m sure that legislators all over the country would like to hear just how and when you changed their laws.
Hey how was that new Star Trek movie? or are you more of a Dungeons and Dragons guy?
Just how many tickets do you have, or are you even old enough to drive?
By the way, it is the responsibility of every driver to know and follow the law, it’s a condition of having a licence.
Stop encouraging others to follow your disrespect for human life!
Milhouse
You clearly have severe problems with reading comprehension. Please point out where I advocated anything. But you are clearly ignorant of the law, which ALREADY provides that everywhere in the USA right turn on red is allowed, except where a sign specifically prohibits it. NYC is the only place that has an exemption from this law. It doesn’t matter whether you think it a good law or a bad one, the fact is that it IS the law, and your ignorance of it won’t change anything.
The US Code is open for anyone to search, and I don’t need to be your research assistant or librarian. You’re quite capable of finding it yourself, and if you do so you will find that it says exactly what I reported. But will you come back here and acknowledge that I wrote nothing but the truth? No, you will not. I have no expectation at all of such a thing happening.
MIlhouse for President of Make Believe
Milhouse you need help.
You keep saying the same thing but it doesn’t make it any more true. You just can’t admit that you are in error. It’s not a big deal, your just wrong.
The danger is that you fuel the lunatics who want to believe that you are right, and use that to disregard the law.
Then when they get tickets for breaking the law they whine, and think the law is wrong and unfairly baised towards them.
You would be doing a service to the community to keep your ignorance of the laws to yourself. Try looking it up, and then come back here and apologize, that would be what a mench would do.
Milhouse
Look, you’re an anonymous coward who posts with ad-hoc names, and thus has no reputation to maintain from post to post. You start with a fresh identity each time you post, and it doesn’t matter what a fool you made of yourself last time, nobody will know. So what credibility have you got? I post with a consistent name, and so I have a reputation to maintain. When’s the last time I got my facts wrong? So whom should people beleive, you or me?
I stand by every word I have written in this thread. I know the US Code reference; do you really think I wouldn’t have looked it up?! But I’m not going to supply it, because it’s not my job to do your homework. You look it up, and if you have any integrity at all, when you find that I’m right you can post an apology.
Milhouse
No response, I see.
Milhouse
And still no response. I assume he finally looked up the law, found I was right, so we won’t hear from him again.
Milhouse
And still no response.

This is happening in all cities across the country where congestion is an issue. City residents are being targeted as prey! All city schools should be forced by law to implement a drop off/pick up system to fix the issue. You can not simply say “parents must find parking” in cities where people circle blocks for more than an hour on a good day looking for a spot. You can not say Parents are lazy and dont want to walk their kids to school. This is a safety issue to kids and a racquet to honest citizens living in a congested city. Parents must rally together and take the time to create and sign petitions and put pressure on our elected officials to do something.
seriously concern parent
Why don’t they set a designated place for parents to pack while dropping their children to school. I live in the Bronx, and recently, I got a $115 for double packing while dropping my 3-year-old child to her head start center. It is indeed outrageous. Something have to be done as soon as possible if any body cares about the safety of these children.
