CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Contrary to what has been reported, Deputy Inspector Frank Vega will continue his duty as Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct, whose jurisdiction covers Crown Heights. In a phone conversation with CrownHeights.info Inspector Vega said: “I am unaware of any plans for my transfer as of yet”.

Local residents have been complaining about the local precincts inability to properly confront the increasing numbers of violent assaults and muggings against Jewish residents. This was evident at the large march the community took part in this past Friday where marchers chanted their dissatisfaction with the police.

“I am closer to the end of my term then to the beginning,” Vega admitted. “But as I see it I still have another year to go.”

Thank you Binyomin for taking the time to try and verify a story rather than just running with whatever rumor your heard.

    Keep up the good work!

if beryl sugar had his way we would all be wearing yellow stars when we walk down kingston ave

  • CR

for change to begin, he needs to leave. Until he is gone things won’t be better. Sure there is a nice presence today. but in a month from now, when they leave, crime will return, because Vega doesn’t think anything is out of the ordinary.

  • SaveFace

Did anyone expect him to say: “yes! i am being transferd do to the fact that i dont protect the people of crown Heights”????? He will smile and say he’s not being transferd untill 5 min. after the new guy is in….

  • Please don-t go!

I’m glad it was just a rumor. Mr Vega really cares for each and every member of this community and the thought of him leaving makes my heart bleed.

  • Wake-up Call

Thanks for clarifying. The rumor was not without merit, however. In the first place, the Police Department should take note of our community’s unsympathetic reaction to the news: Like it or not, we feel cheated by this man…either prove he is doing his job or send him packing.

Secondly, let’s learn an important lesson of “Al Tivtichu benidivim, b’ven odom she’ein lo seshua.” To all of our “leaders” and machers who proudly trumpet their REAL inside connections with elected officials etc… remember, they are not here because they love us, they are here because this is the job they were elected/hired to do. Every one of them can be switched out, fired or indicted in six minutes flat. The only ones we can rely on are each other and our commitment to this shchuna… We’d best start building that sentiment now, before we are left out in the cold while City Hall continues installing new bike lanes. Without wind-awnings.

Im just curious, how do we no that Vegah is bad? I know he tickd us off in the infamous metting but i want to hear from those in the know whats his real deal. ( you just have to wonder that if this guy is capable and does put in 100% and we demonized him how horrible that would be as a jewish community and just as people)

Again I don’t know either way I’m just curious.

It is so sad that the police dept. is missing the whole point.
The fact is that most trouble makers including the rockthrwoers on Shabbos are not Crwon Heights residents. So instead of wasting tax money on a big Show why are they not trying to find these criminals?

  • Concerned!

The NYPD exists to get as much good press coverage as they can and to scoop up every bit of Federal $$$ they can get their hands on. Anyone who lets the NYPD make them feel warm and fuzzy is setting themself up for a big disappointment. There are approximately 38,000 cops in NYPD (that’s more than the number of soldiers in the army of many countries). Unfortunately, NYPD hides so many of their personnel in positions other than patrol that few are left to actually provide a presence and protect us from the criminals who roam our streets.

What a shame … Kelly should be gone … let him be a commentator on Fox News like Bernard Kerik another former “Great” NYPD leader.

  • Disappointed

What a shame. It would have been so nice to have a Commanding Officer that actually gave a crap about us. Boys, I guess it’s time to get out the bats and do the dirty work ourselves.

  • WE LOVE INSPECTOR VEGA #1

we love you Frank!!! to the community, stop trying to blame everything on Insp. Vega. pLEASE GET RID OF THE SHMIRA SO WE CAN HAVE A SECURD NEIGHBERHOOD. FROM IN SIDE AS WELL AS OUTSIDE. REMEMBER, DON’T LOOK AT BLACK AND WHITE, LOOK AT WRONG AND RIGHT!!!

    THANKS

  • THE PBBN ROCKZ

I was informed that the police present will be here untill early June. Unless they find a need to entened it a bit longer.

  • 40 yrs in the hood

yea when the heat comes thay will be gone ,,and if things dont get better we r looking @ another riot in crown hights

If Vega really cared about our community and its safety it wouldn’t take a surprise visit by Comm. Kelly to get the Police presence we now enjoy. I would hope that this Police presence continues through the summer as crime always increases then. If the criminals out there knew that every assault and crime would be investigated fully with the perpetrators caught and brought to trial and then prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law we wouldn’t need such a large police presence in the first place.
