Purim Koton Prank Taken Out of Proportion?

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Girls from Beis Rivkah High School and Bnos Menachem High School, arranged in honor of Purim Koton that the grades switch schools for the morning.

According to the girls involved, the plan was that the girls attend Davening at each other’s schools then switch back before beginning the period of classes. What actually happened has parents up in arms.

When the Beis Rivkah girls arrived at Bnos Menachem the principal reacted with a smile as the girls poured into the Shul and said “let us utilize this moment of Simcha to Daven properly” as the girls all clapped. Yet when the Bnos Menachem girls arrived at Beis Rivkah the scene was in stark contrast.

They were greeted at the front doors by the principal of the Beis Rivkah High School, who curtly turned the girls away saying “Please go home… any Bnos Menachem girls please go home”, “I am a person who likes a joke but this is a second category… I was wondering if the Rebbe would pass by here now how proud would he be”.

Parents of some of the students involved in the ‘prank’ felt that the reaction of Beis Rivkah was too harsh and the punishment that the organizers received was too severe. In a letter sent to Beis Rivkah one parent stated that they feel that Beis Rivkah presented a bad example to the students, and it did not merit the severity it was given, also that they feel that the spirit of the ‘prank’ was entirely misinterpreted.

In another letter a parent raised the issue of the opposite of Achdus that was displayed by the schools, and how this can be a deterrent to those involved for years to come.

The Beis Rivkah administration said in response that three girls were suspended with their parent’s knowledge and agreement, furthermore they addressed the issue in comparison to a summer camp where such a prank may be tolerated but in school there is a lot more responsibility “what if someone Chas Vesholom got hurt? Who would the parents blame?” and ventured to say “when Purim comes around and a class decides to go to the Empire State Building to do Mivtzoim, as a ‘prank’, and a few girls end up in the movies, where would it end?”.

i wont comment on whether the actions of either school were correct. however the quote at the end about going to movies is absurd.

  • MMC

Oh come on beis Rivkah is that the best answer you can come up with, Sadly you showed your true colors. Sad very sad

  • a former resident of crown heights

let me just say this whole thing was blown out of proportion. I want to say the school system is wondering why the girls are not complying with the school.
its because the school hanhola dont have ahavas yisroel it was purim koton, the students were all acting in achdus it was a beautiful thing what they have done if only the school principals and executive staff would just realize that.

I feel it was disgusting the way it was handled and as for the punishment thats just a disgrace, there are no words to be said here except for a public appology to the students in the school and may it stand corrected we need to have more ahavas yisroel in this community. and with regard to one of the letters what would the Rebbe say none of us can say what he would say but I can tell you one thing the rebbe would have had a smile on his face of the achdus and ahavas yisroel the both classes had.

    have a wonderful shabbos

  • out of towner

some people need to get a life, what the girls did was harmless, It was a time for Bais Rivkah to show some class, as Bnos Menachem did, but we all know Bais Rivkah lacks class (no pun intended)Bais Rivah picked the wrong thing to descipline – maybe they should try tzinious.

  • upset

what does going to the empire state building and going to the movies have anything to do with a cute little prank? I’m sorry, everyone was a silly little prank and everyone blew up for no reason.

  • Over the hills and far far away

    How intriguing,
Are we to assume that the attitude which greeted the girls at Bnos Menachem prevails in their education as well, and that the attitude displayed Beis Rivkah prevails in their system?
    Makes one wonder, doesn’t it.

  • now why am I not surprised

It is assumed that everyone knows that beis rivkah hanholo is up in arms 24/7 about bnos menachem “stealing” their curriculum and lots more nonsense, which even the greatest among them spew, their reaction is quite expected – as is the reaction at bnos menachem also quite expected.
whose reaction do you think the kids appreciated more? don’t have to be a rocket scientist for this one

  • some1 uninvolved

omg.. i saw videos of it and the achdus felt was amazing!
go bnos menachems principal whoever u r for taking part..
as for the harsh words from br…!!

  • a concerned mother

just like a cow chews over his food 7 times;being that i am the first one to comment i want to remind all of you so too everyone should think what they should write 7 times before they comment on this article besides which i dont think it was necessary that this article be written.

  • brhs student involved in this prank

i find this utterly obnoxious that you put this article on the web. this is not the real details and obvioulsy no research was done to prove anything.
end of story is this article doesnt say enough and shouldnt have been put up!!

  • parent

i cant believe 3 girls were suspended, they all had good intentions, and they should not be punished.

  • excuses

I love it how some people will always use the excuse of “ what would the Rebe say” for something that totally has no connection with the Rebbe abd chassidus.

  • another BRHS girl involved in the prank

First of all i agree that this article should not have been put up at all. second of all, the fact of the matter is that bais rivkah carries the whole high school system of Lubavitch on their shoulders. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on the hanhala of our school. This is the Rebbe’s school, and they are doing what they think is right, according to the Rebbe’s Horaos they have personally received. If you disagree with their response, maybe write a respectful letter, or call, but dont post your not nice and disrespectful comments and articles on the web for all to see! remember you’re talking about the Rebbe’s shluchim who were pickeed by the Rebbe to run Bais Rivkah!

  • upset bais rivkah student

this is reallly not right that this article went on the web….
first of all the detalis are not correct and i was there..
second of all there is 2 sides to every story and peole are all now against bais rivkah for no reason…
this is very inapropiate to publicize to the world what 2 schools did together-it is noone elses business to interfere. gut voch!

  • Cee

As a young parent deciding where to send his daughter, I think this helps make my decision much easier. I’d rather them go to B’nos Menachem, where they can appriciate the spirit of the “prank” at the very least is a great way of showing achdus on the community.

I think the Rebbe would have been very proud that these girls aren’t divided and felt connected enough to do this.

  • r they setting an example?

the hanhals of schools r setting an example of what they want their students to become in the futuer- and sadly to say i think that bais rivka is not setting the right example. they have this agresiveness to bnos menachem- fo instence by 22nd of shvat – whan all the schools from all over the world gather and one of the fuew school that r “invisibel” is bnos menachem…
if they really wana see achdus in our comunity- they should be setting the example- and not the opposite!

  • brhs victim

im sorry brhs student- i am a brhs student that was involved but was in br when it happenned and i clearly saw our principals reaction so dont say its not what happenned! if anything this article makes them look good…

  • annoymous

b4 u post anything u should find out the true details of what happened!!! don’t go making up ur own details!! obviously there are reasons for the reaction of ppl, dont judge right away! only judge once ur in their shoes, it’s not ur place to judge otherwise!!!

  • old student of brhs

this is very sad…beis rivkah did what they had to do, and just because bnos menachem welcomed them doesnt mean brhs shouldve done the same… its a schooland it needs structure and rules its not a free fall im embarressed that people are making such a big deal out of this

  • What was gained by posting this article?

This article completely misrepresents beth rivkah, the Rebbe’s school. Firstly, why put something online to make separation in the community. Secondly, check out your facts before you post anything. Beth rivkah’s response was absolutely neccesary. A school has the responsiblity to show their students the proper way to behave. I’m sorry that the students and parents in the community don’t have the maturity to understand the school’s point of view.

  • PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR MOTIVES?

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF PUTTING THIS ONLINE? Please tell me what you gained from reading this article? I’m ashamed to be part of a community that enjoys gossiping.

  • Bais Rivkah mother

All I have to say as amenber of this community. As a mother of girls, is how proud I am. You girls from the 10th and 11 grades should hold ur head up high. Be proud of what you did and be proud of who you are. You showed your true colors and proved to the world that we are Lubavitch and WE will prove to the world time and time again how powerfull we truly are.
    Kol Hakovod to u girls.
My hats off to you! I am so proud of you!

  • Irritated yet amused

After reading all the comments the ones I most appreciated were by the student involved in the prank – before making judgement: research! and by “a concerned mother” – remember to think: this was about the lack of achdus. Don’t react to negative with negative. Try to be favorable, you be the one to present a positive example!

  • a brhs student

I’m a brhs student, who happened to participate in the prank, who’d like to let you all know that this website is blowing the whole thing way up.
it’s annoying having detention, true. but we all love the drama, discussing it in class, and most of us expected some repercussion.
Mrs. T is AMAZING. and i’m going her 2 thumbs way up.
as for the achdus, it’s there whatever our principals, teacher dish out. just because we got into a bit of hot water doesn’t mean i’m not gonna talk to my friends from a different school.

  • Ch Teacher

Thank you so much for putting up this worthy news story.
As a teacher in one of the community schools I am aware how long the school year can be for students. This year especially with the two moths of Adar it much harder. The girls were having some good kosher fun for a change. We should applaud them not discipline them. As educators we must show the students that we care for them and want the best for them spiritually and emotionally. But by exposing them to the venom and hate that is pandemic in the hierarchy of BR is truly destructive. I now of many staff members in BR that are embarrassed by the schools action and that the school is having a hard time getting a teacher to supervise the detention session.
Next year come registration time CH parents I hope you remember this story.

    A CH teacher.

  • Parent of 11th grade BRHS student

As the parent of an 11th grade BRHS student involved in this prank (and I knew about it the night before from my daughter and thought that it was a cute idea), my daughter came home and couldn’t stop praising BMHS. She said that the principal and the school are full of positive energy and a constructive approach towards the students. The BMHS principal greeted them with joy and made them feel welcome. My daughter said that the davening that day had the most Chayos and student involvement than any other davening of the year. My daughter was greatly impressed. She felt that the BMHS staff is there to help BUILD up the students, as opposed to the “don’t do this or else” approach. But, as she’s in 11th grade, she feels that it isn’t worth it to switch at such a late time, so close to graduation. Had it been earlier in her education…….

  • ceo

The person at the first comment “Sad”, is really sad. (WOULD YOU BE PERFECT ABOUT THE DECISION AND/OR ITS RESULTS???) Most but not all people on this list showed an interesting response. The majority chose to trash Bais Rivka which was using a situation to talk nasty and negative about a situation that only one person had responsibility for. She may or may not have made the best decision…..it was only done one way so we won’t know….but it was shocking to see how Yidden can trash one Chabad mosad to another no matter what. Its just shocking to see such middos. These are not the middos that our parents would have displayed (and on a public forum??)or that the Rebbe would want to see.
IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THE REBBE IS HERE IN ANY WAY, HOW CAN YOU MAKE SUCH COMMENTS. Really, think about what you’ve all said. It can teach us alot about where each of us are at and we should think about it.

  • Local Mechanech

Although, I would never aprove what was done by the 11th grade girls of either school, I do respect the attitude of the Bnos Menachem staff in handling the situation.

As for the principle of BRHS, I believe she aught to be condemned for her actions and held responsible for any negative reprecautions this may cause!

  • bla

everything that anybody ever does has to be ‘wrong’…. where does the movies come in? everything has to be with doing something negative….. they always think that something will end up in a negative way. Not everything is wrong…. some things are just plain normal.. sounds weird, right?

  • Get a life!!!

If you are going to leave a comment, at least make sure you know how to spell!! It’s pathetic!!!

  • A Father

it seems clear which is the fading school and which is the growing one. It just seems that Beis Rivka are spoiled sports. One of this “rebbe’s school” propaganda. You honestly think the rebbe would have not been proud of B’nos Menachem and their girls?

Thanks to B.M. for providing a great alternative to an old guard institution!

  • a neutral party

i think what bais rivkah did was very wrong, but i dont think publicizing it on crownheights.info is the way to go. its like aring out dirty laundry. let the people directly involved deal with the issue, and thats it. by discussing it, and giving your opinion on it, you help blow it out of proportion.

  • agree with beis rivka

Students can not run a school, decide to skip, or even to daven in another place, as a teacher for many years already, i think beis rivka acted appropriately, girls/students have no right to decide to prank even in the name of purim.

let this be a lesson to fuirther pranksters to stop in their tracks, or suffer the consequences!

  • a studentd in BRHS tenth grade

some of the comments here are truly innapropiate and lack respect, Mrs. Teichtel is an amazing principal who puts her heart and soul into each and every student, and reacted te way she did out of concern for her students and to make sure they and bnos menachem students are in the right place at the right time.

  • PROUD BRHS STUDENT!!!!

firstly i think it is extremely disgusting to be publishing such a article!! especially since you dont even know exactly what happened!!!
secondly to anyone writing comments-maybe you should think a little before!!!!!! bais rivkah was and still is the Rebbes school, and to anyone who doesnt send their children there dont try to make yourself feel better now that this happened and to bash Bais Rivkah!! besides for that i dont know why anyone would want to send their children to a school where the students write such DISGUSTING comments about another school!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN THEY TALK ABOUT THE “AHAVAS YISRAEL” OF bnos menachem towards bais rivka!!! well i certainly dont consider that ahavas yisrael!!

  • pretty unbelieveable

    Dear Bnos Menachem.\,

YAASHER KOACH – YOU CERTAINLY MADE A STRONG STATEMENT AND WE APPLAUD YOU .
THE WAY IT WAS HANDLED WAS TOTALLY DELIGHTFUL, AND THE LESSON OF ACHDUS AND ACCEPTANCE WILL BE ETCHED IN THE GIRLS MINDS FOREVER. THANK YOU FOR TEACHING US ALL THAT HUMOR AND JOY GOES A LONG WAY, EVEN THE HANHOLA BREAKS THE RULES (SO TO SPEAK) TO MAKE ANOTHER YID HAPPY.

KOL HAKOVOD AND PURIM KATAN SAMEACH.

  • Just Asking....

To ‘agree with beis rivka’- ouch. While we’re on the subject; Beis Rivkah is referred to by some here as ‘The Rebbe’s School’. For those of us that are clearly uninformed, can someone please explain what this means. And how, possibly, could it be that BM is any less ‘The Rebbe’s School’?

  • the shoes

i am very unimpressed with what is going on here. The students did something that was really achdusdik and however the schools responded they responded. i would like to say my personal opinion on this.Bnos Menachem reacted in a way that was befitting for them.imagine if you are trying to run a school and 200 girls just rushed in and u know u cannot put a stop to it , the best way to play along is by allowing it to happen. on hte other hand i understand bais rivkah since due to the fact that they are the larger school, they can control the smaller amount of students that would flood in.Also if brhs would allow this to occur the students would think that they can perform such acts on a daily basis.i personally think taht there was a need for punishment.i think everyone should stop judging and for a change place themselfs in each others shoes and may we merit moshiach now1

  • friend of ceo

    To: PROUD BRHS STUDENT!!!!

I am so proud of you and I don’t know you personally! (well not sure about that). You have great values and an intelligent way of expressing your self.
Whomever raised you put some time and energy into loving you and caring for you so that you know these great thoughts. I hope this forum ends with my posting actually, because I think its inappropriate that it was put here in the first place. Nobody is perfect and nobody meant harm. If such loshon hara came out of it, and such extreme anger and disgust from one school to another, then there is something missing here that needs to be fixed. That is not the schools, it is EACH OF US INDIVIDUALLY.

  • Mrs. T is the best

Mrs. T is amazing, caring, sweet and respectable principal! We all love her!! She did what she had to do as the pricipale of Bais Rivkah!!!!

  • a proud brhs member

i’m sorry this has been taken to too much of an extreme. putting this up online and having everyone comment. br is the rebbe school no matter what anyone says its the rebbes school and the best school. the hanhala did what they did and its over with. whether it was right or wrong its not your desicion. this was the hanhalas desicion they felt that they need to give the school some structure. the rebbe hired them and i’m sure they are doing wtvr they think the rebbe would want them to do. being a proud member of the venihapochu although we are annoyed that the school wouldn’t play along with what half the school did we will take wtvr punishment they give us with pride the same way we switched schools with pride. i don’t think this should help anyone decide where to send their children if they do its a weak disicion theres more important things to decide on.

  • BR is not the only option

Firstly, I saw the videos. The whole thing is documented. I understand that Mrs. Tiechtel was upset, but her reaction was totally uncalled for. To lock the girls outside, kick them off the steps because they belong to bais rivkah and giving them a speech about how the rebbe would not be proud…That is supposed to show BRHS respect? Ahavas Yisroel? How to treat another person? It’s no wonder that the students from each school have different attitudes. Anyone who doesn’t start in BR from the day they were born has a very hard time adjusting and I am speaking from experience. As to the PROUD BRHS STUDENT who said that Bais Rivkah is the Rebbe’s school and this is just a chance for others to bash it, I have news for you, there are other options out there and not everyone is cut out for BR and not everyone has to go there. Plus, you claim that writing disgusting comments towards BRHS is the opposite of Ahavas Yisroel from a school that showed Ahavas Yisroel towards the BR students, if you take a look back at the comments you’ll notice that majority of the criticism is coming from BRHS themselves…Time to take a second look BRHS!

  • Shocked at the negativity in CH

to whoever wrote this: As for the principle of BRHS, I believe she aught to be condemned for her actions and held responsible for any negative reprecautions this may cause!

Everyone is responsible for themselves but if anything I would restate that statment like this: as FOR THE GIRLS WHO STARTED THE PRANK, i believe they aught to be condemned for their actions and held responsible for any negative reprecautions this may cause.

let’s rememember that it was on Purim Katan Tof,Shin,Nun,Beis that the Rebbe spent hours giving out Kuntresim. How can you say that on such a special day, it was “cute” to do this prank, and cause so much negativity in teh community, and so much personal pain to the people who had to make the decision about how to react.

  • proud brhs student!!!

    to- just asking!
firstly i think its pretty sad if you dont yet know that the Frierdiker Rebbe founded Bais Rivka!!!!!!!!! maybe it was a long time ago but this is the same Bais Rivka!!!!
secondly Bais Rivka is run according to the Rebbe’s advice…… i can testify this being a Bais Rivka student!!!!

  • BR Graduate

I agree with all those that commented on why this article went up.
Especially since the three girls that were suspended from BR were THREATENED with further consequences if this story was posted on the web. POOR GIRLS :-(

  • Some Guy

All i can say is that i have gone through the whole yeshiva system and i have never heard of such an original “prank” . It was not wild or opposite of tznius in any way shape or form. I think they should have treated it as a regular day of school until the break – and have everyone switch back. Teens will be teens – its not the end of the world to be in good spirit on purim koton.

  • loyal bais rivkah alumni

i’m so impressed to see how many bais rivkah girls are standing up for their school and its principal!! good for you!

  • Dissapointed Parent

As a parent of a student in BRHS I was extremely disappointed in the reaction of the school I chose 4 my daughter. We live in an Olam Hasheker. There is much corruption infiltrated in all of our society.I would hope that in the world of chinuch there would be emes. For a school to shroud their political issues in the name of Halacha and hashkafa is appalling. We preach a proactive mode rather than a reactive mode yet the dugma chayas that exist for our children cant hold their own.How sad.I wish more for the future Mothers,Michanchim, and shluchos of tomorrow. We have failed the next generation.

  • R.C.L.

as i innocent bystander its amusing to see the article and even more amusing to see the bickering of parents student hanhola and others.
the prank however funny and cute it was shouldn’t have been done. its wrong and i don’t understand how anyone can say its right. on purim itself it could be understandable but thats none of my concern.
from what i heard over shabbos i understand that bnos menachems staff knew of the prank the day before and decided that that was the best way to deal with it , “if you cant beat them , join them” on the other hand beis rivka hadn’t the slightest clue and the reaction was instinctive and i believe bnos menachem would have done the same had they discussed it earlier.

whoever said the movie thing is bogus needs to take a look around
when things become to hefker people push the little limits way to far movies arent the end of the world but they lead there

i also am discussed and bewildered
how does anyone have the chutzpa and total lack of respect to decide how the rebbe would feel on such a topic or any topic. to say the rebbe is shepping nachas or the rebbe is smiling or the rebbe wouldn’t have approved
where do you get off deciding these things
and “excuse” were do u come from
to say the rebbe has nothing to do with things like this that aren’t related to chasidus
can u get any closer to chasidus than the education of these kids
and even if there isn’t a connection does a guy sitting in a hospital have to do with chasidus
    the answer is yes
everything does whether you see the connection or not

why do people think they can make these random blanket statements

i cant believe parents are proud of these actions. its one thing not to say it was wrong its another to say nu it happened wtvr lets move on but its wrong to compliment such behavior and to be proud of these girls disregarding hanhala

and to the parent who said he now knows which school to send his kid to and to all those parents who said things about switching to bnos menachem do you really want a school that approves of pranks and doesn’t not a school that pushes structured classes

  • yitzchak

as a longtime Mechanech I wish to compliment ch inffo for putting up this story and also for exposing our boggest problem in our community “Achdus Israel”.It is time that the older generation wake up and adjust themselves to the times and the needs of the young children. They are no longer robots who need to be controled by teachers and administrators, but rather children who will be our future leaders and we sholud make Yiddishkeit “Geshmak ”not “Moro shchora” or we will loose more children to the outside influences. I may add that the situation with boys also needs to be corrected as well.

Thank You again for your courage ch info

  • brkid

to the father who now easily knowsw where to send his girls, maybe BM high school is better for ur daughters, but im in BR elementary, and come to think of it we were having a disscussion during history about monopolies. (the teacher has been teaching in BR for like 25 yr) she openly said that it was a good thing that there are other schools in ch so that ppl. have a chioce. btw thats NOT the attitude that the whole hanholo has and anyways, i can find ovwer 15 ways to excuse Mrs. T

  • A BRHS Insider

All of our parents knew and didn’t stop us! BM Principal took it with wisdom and a sense of humor, she made sure everyone davened and had a chitas. She let us know that after Davening we were to go back to our school.
The principal in BR principal took it the wrong way. Good innocent students went, obviously not thinking there was anything wrong.
We all meant Achdus! We didn’t even expect a punishment and such a harsh reaction from our principal. We just thought she would laugh it off like the BM principal.
The girls suspended shouldn’t have because we were all involved in this. We feel guilty for their real severe punishment and are ashamed of our school who said they won’t point fingers and investigate. Who ever gave in names is even worse, how could you?

    .

  • OVERSEAS SEMINARY GIRL

Okay seriously…can’t anyone take a joke??? The Ahavas Yisroel of these girls is very impressive. You girls rock!

  • Amused

The comments to this article are hysterical, all you proud BR girls – what exactly are you proud of?? To the concerned parents and teachers, if you carry on with such a lack of sense of humour, your kids will go off the derech very fast. Lighten up, there is a lot worse that can happen! To thoes that think this article should not have been published – whatever happened to freedom of press? are we heading for a communist state in CH? To thoes that keep referring to Beis Rivka as ‘the Rebbes school’ seriously, get over yourselves! Every Lubavitch school is the Rebbes school.
As someone not from CH (thankfully) I’m shocked and humored by the stupidity that is eminating from there. Y’all need an education!

  • JAMES FAN

    FROM OUT OF TOWN:
LOOKS LIKE THE GIRLS HAVE MORE ACHDUS THAN THE ADULTS.
WHY IS BR SO SCARED THAT THE ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN? “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED” DOESN’T FLY WHEN THERE ISN’T ANY INFO. AFTER THAT!!

  • REAL Ahavas Yisroel

Everyone should stop and think for a moment here: The same way that “lack of ahavas yisroel” is wrong, so is judging ppl! Who here runs a huge school of teenagers?? How do you know how you would react to various situations? Imagine the pressure and responsiblity the hanhalah has!!
AND, we are all human, ppl dont always do the best, most right thing in every situation…that’s life. We try as hard as we can.
Having an opinion abouth this incident is okay, lets express it CONSTRUCTIVELY!
That would be REAL Ahavas Yisroel!

  • BRHS 10th grader

I don’t think anyone can judge politics until they experience some of it themselves. How much of BRHS’s reaction to the prank had to do with the fact that it was done with BM, I don’t know. But I can’t judge them for being upset.

What I do know is, regardless of whom is right and wrong, one thing that definitely happened is this: every single girl in both schools who had been oblivious to the (extent of) the politics between BRHS and BM was hit with it full force.
It could be the severe punishment for the prank had nothing to do with BM (as BRHS claimed). But I think the hanhala of BRHS should have realized that if they would give a severe punishment IN CONTRAST TO Bnos Menachem’s ‘playing along’ shtick, rumors would FLY.
    And so they did.

As a student, it hurts me to see the besmirching done to my school and my principal, whom I have always respected- and still do. But I don’t agree with the way the situation was handled. A lot more thought of the future consequences should’ve been put in.

P.S. Bnos Menachem girls, a lot of people on this forum are commenting on your superior curriculum. Try reflecting that by spelling properly. That’s just a lil’ tad of advice.

  • brhs mom and grandma

Syog Lachochmo Shesika, enough comments and it’s time to move on. It was cute and in the spirit of Purim. Maybe a little chutzpadik but B;h no one was harmed and it most likely will not happen again.

  • BRHS 10th grade student I was part of it

I think you should put your self in the principal’s shoes and then talk and they are doing the right thing eve-in thug I was part of this I admit it was not right what we did but we do mistakes wen we are yong

  • neighbor

I hope my comment is short and to the point. This was a cute joke at the right time. It was not a full or half day switch, but only for Davening.

Its not a big deal. THe one who has issues are the Higher Ups of bais rivkah and not the principal. They have plenty of other issues that they cant deal with. This is not bad at all. I jsut wish that I was there.

I was a BRHS student and soon my girls will be BRHS students.

Go girls go…. this should be the worst thing you ever did.

  • BRHS proud of what we did & don-t regret

How Cud U suspend those 3 girls, who took the blame? We Luv ya guys, Can’t wait 2 C U back in school.

  • br junior

GO BR ELEVENTH GRADE U ROCK.
I DONT UNDERSTAND EVERYONE HERE WHY ARE U ALL TALKING BAD ABOUT BRHS IF ALL THE GIRLS OF BRHS ARE DEFENDING IT. WE WERE THERE AND WE ARE NOT UPSET AT MRS. T THE GREATEST PRINCIPAL IN THE WORLD WE ALL LOVE HER AND RESPECT HER. SHE WAS TOTALY NOT EXPECTING THIS SHE WAS JUST SHOCKED AND PUT ON THE SPOT AND DIDNT NO HOW TO REACT TO ALL THIS SO SHE JUST GOT UPSET PUT URSELF IN HER SHOES AS A PRINCIPAL OF A HUGE AND FULL OF CHAYUS SCHOOL. AND WE DOING THIS PLOT KNEW WE WERE NOT DOING SOMETHING SO CORRECT AND KNEW WE MIGHT GET PUNISHED AND WE WERE TOTALLY EXPECTING IT. BASICALLY I AM VERY PROUD OF WHAT WE DID HOW WE PULLED THIS OFF WE ROCK I LOVE BRHS.. it is the best school in the universe non like it.

  • teacher of local boys yeshiva

i keep on reading that the details written aren’t accurate… but no one said how. the sroty i heard from a few students on both ends; and there weren’t any different facts.
so first of all, instead of criticizing crownheights.info, applaud them for giving accuratd news that the whole neighborhood is talking (and upset about the way BR handled it).
‘SINO MEKALKELES ES HASHURA’ BR principal probably regrets the way she handled it. she did so out of spite and hatred and the animosity she has towards BM.
It sure hurts when there is another school that’s far better than yours, but instead of being jealous, make you own school better.

  • student

    um, the bm pricipal
DID NOT know about it and if she did, she’s a pretty good actress because i was there when she came in and she was surprised.

mrs teichtel did have a right to be upset but the excuses she gave us for WHY what we did was wrong, did not make any sense at all!

  • BR - Wake up and smell the coffee!

Unfortunately, Bais Rivkah’s true colors have revealed themselves. Again. As a former Bais Rivkah student, I’m disappointed that the hanholo STILL have not developed an understanding of our children’s needs and how to deal with them positively in 5768 – 2008. They also don’t seem to understand the idea of bad press and the power of the internet. They have to appreciate that being such a high profile school they will constantly be under scrutiny. They have to rethink how they run their school and how they deal with parents and students. Bais Rivkah very often gets a bad rap because they deserve it. They appear to be sadly behind the times and need to get their act together: too many girls have bad memories of Bais Rivkah. Here was an opportunity to allow for some clean and kosher fun. Teenagers today need to have a healthy outlet for their energies. And here was an opportunity to daven together someplace else. That’s the big crime!! Davening together. Bais Rivkah needs to take a good look at their negative image and what they can do to correct it. And another point – don’t give me that drivel that Bais Rivkah was caught unaware. That’s precisely the point – when you’re caught unaware you show your true colors.

  • to AMUSED

To answer all of your questions…
a proud BR girl, is proud that she goes to a normal structured school, where the hanhala doesn’t just let them get away with all hefkairus.
As for the issue of freedom of press, in yidishkeit there is no heter for saying things that cause loshon horah. Not much good came out of this article and all of its comments, this caused the opposite of achdus and ahavas yisroel.
And yes all Lubavitch mosdos are the Rebbes, however not many of their head staff were appointed by the Rebbe. The Rebbe kept his interest in Bais Rivkah very much, and there were many things he instituted. And just in case you didn’t know the Frierdiker Rebbe started Beis Rivkah, and when people asked the Rebbe to open another girl school in CH the Rebbe said not to.

  • a bais rivkah student

As a girl who was involved with the prank from beis rivkah i feel that our principal had full right to do what she did. Since when can students decide to start school late and not be punished? We deserve what we got and Bais Rivkah is the best school. the reaction was expected and if it didnt come, then something would be wrong. i am ashamed that this article got onto the web, how much publicity do we need>??

  • Just Let Kids Be Kids

    to ‘Amused’
you could not have said it better and
and to all those who are utterly “concerned”
regardless of whether or not the kids were right for what they did
and regardless of whether ot not this belongs on the web
in this day and age a good word takes you and all those around you a lot further than unproductive criticism, and making the poor kids wait in the cold just because the schools admin is in a fight

  • fr-ceo

    To BRHS 10th grader

another intelligent example of a Bas Yisroel (notice the example of not putting one school against the other). Your words were quite sensible.
I still hope that this ends. I feel silly making any comments at all. We all should be learning to be the best we could be, and not on some forum that contains rediculous displays of questionable ahavas yisroel. I hope that we have learned from this. All our actions are affecting Eretz Yisroel and the world.

  • Mother of BR grads

There are so many responses I could make I’m overwhelmed. I hope you’ll post this to give me a chance to “speak” from an opposing point of view.

    1. The level of disrespect thrown at Bais Rivka is disgusting. If you parents, “teachers/mechanchos”, & students WERE NOT INVOLVED IN THE HANHALA’S RESPONSE…keep quiet! You have no right to judge, because YOU weren’t responsible for making the decision. You have the right to disagree with any decision, but the way you believe you may speak is astonishing! It’s not surprising there are so many children with “issues” here when their teachers & parents set such examples.

    2. It’s quite obvious that the level of English education for all concerned, (including some parents) leaves a lot to be desired…most comments are illiterate.

    3. I am even more disgusted by the smug attitude that seems to emanate (look it up) from B’nos Menachem “supporters”. FYI, that school rejected a superb, Chassidishe, popular, great girl for the High School. WHY??? Because she’s not particularly academic. Bais Rivka welcomed her with open arms & was prepared to accommodate her needs. How’s THAT for Ahavas Yisrael???

Let’s put this whole issue in perspective. It would appear that any excuse to denigrate (look it up) Bais Rivka is acceptable or even encouraged. How about Hakoras Hatov from the MANY students who would not have been accepted into “other schools” for one reason or another. How about supporting the Rebbe’s School (If I’m not mistaken, BM came about after Gimmel Tammuz & therefore it cannot claim the Rebbe’s support.)

It is interesting that very little support for BR is published, just a vast over-preponderance (look it up) of illiterate hatred.

Shame on CH.info for starting this whole ball rolling. Kudos to Morah Tiechtel, Mrs. Laine, & a truly dedicated staff for helping me raise my wonderful daughters/Shluchos/wives/mothers.

I salute you all: I couldn’t have done it without you!

  • local oholei torah teacher!

i just want to wrap it up very simple.what the girls did on purim koton can be justified!the hanholas bm acted with wisdom and understanding! however, the hanholas br acted very foolish and unbecoming!what i would have done was,let the day continue ,and at the end of the day call the girls in and explain to them-it was a beautiful idea and plan for purim koton.but ,in the future it will be unacceptable ,and further explain them the severity of the situation[security,etc.].thats it!

  • movies or Mivztaim?

i heard about this on Shabbos from girls from both schools. i am pleased the story was posted. denial will never correct a problem. first you have to realize there is a problem and define it. from what i heard from the girls on Shabbos, the article is very gentle with the BR reaction.

BR cannot operate as if it has a ‘Divine Rule’ because it claims to be the Rebbe’s school. it has to act like the Rebbe’s school and earn respect, not just demand it.

there are few comments here that claim the article does not know the details. that is a very weak comment when not even one specific correction to even one identified mistaken detail is offered.

the BR reaction is totally in line with what could be expected from BR. a very tense over-reaction. they really believe that if they would have let girls from BM come in from the cold on Rosh Chodesh Adar it would lead to BR girls going to movies!

BR is a great school. if publicizing this mistake will make BR do Tshuva – it will be an even greater school.

  • A mother , former student of Bais rivkah

Local “mechanech” :writing here that the woman who devotes her life heart and soul and heart to this community and the Rebbe’s school should be condemed and muchmore is beyond degrading and not nice.
Mrs. Tiechtel has been the principle of Bais Rivkah High School for over thirty years and is a truly caring loving and educated mechaneches. She obviously thought over her actions and did the right thing. How dare anyone speak negative about such a woman. If only you would stop and think that maybe with less people like you speaking loshon hara and negatively–especially about people who are the oppisite of that– maybe we would have alot less Tzoros and tragedies in our community. You should be ashamed of yourself and everyone else who thinks they have the right to even question the actions of a real macheneches and mashpia should be embarressed as well.

  • A Concerned BRHS Parent

Many of those commenting here seem to be concerned about what example is being set for our children from the behavior of different individuals.

To me is shocking that these very same commenters can go ahead and cast judgment upon the principal of BRHS. Do you know all the reasons that lie behind their response to this prank? What kind of example are you giving when you go ahead and just judge without knowledge of the whole story with all its details?!

MOST SPECIFCALLY WHEN WE ARE DEALING WITH A PRINICAPL LIKE MRS. TIECHTEL, WHO FOR THE PAST 35 YEARS HAD DEDICATED HE ENRTIRE LIFE, WITH HER HEART AND SOUL, TO THE WELLBEING OF EACH AND EVERY STUDENT! ASK THE THOUSANDS OF WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD TODAY WHO HAVE BEEN HER STUDENTS, ABOUT THE CARE AND PERSONAL CONCERN SHE HAS SHOWN THEM DURING THEIR HIGH SCHOL YEARS.

I believe that the community ought to show utmost recognition and appreciation to the tremendous self-sacrifice and dedication of Mrs. Tiechtel, and not just judge and underestimate her actions.

  • Derech Eretz

    Derech Eretz Kodma Latorah.
Whether the students acted appropriately or not, their job is to always respect authority (unless they are, ch”v, commanded to act against the torah laws). It is painful to see parents (if they really are parents and not some teenager going under the title of “parent of br/bm student”) lashing out against a principal’s decisions and actions. As parents it is important to instill within your child a sense of yirah of their teachers and principals and only encourage your children to act with the highest degree of Derech Eretz WHETHER YOU AGREE WITH THE PRINCIPAL/TEACHER OR NOT. You can definitely phone the teacher/prinipal privately and voice your concerns but your children should not be involved. Their one and only job is to act with the utmost respect.
Finally, I’m sorry that this has been posted online. Unfortunately, the Web is being used for huge amounts of lashon hara and rechilus.

To the individual that wrote, “It is time that the older generation wake up and adjust themselves to the times and the needs of the young children. They are no longer robots who need to be controled by teachers and administrators, but rather children who will be our future leaders…”

This is not according to Torah at all. Torah says don’t drive a car on shabbos and the same torah says Kabed es avicha ves imecha (including teachers and administrators!) . Since when does Torah allow the youngsters to dictate to their elders! Children will definitely be our future leaders but in order to be future Torah leaders, they must respect and learn from their elders while they are young.

One commenter wrote: “To the concerned parents and teachers, if you carry on with such a lack of sense of humour, your kids will go off the derech very fast.”
This is not going to influence anyone on whether they should be going off the derech or not! This was a prank, ok. One school was ok with it and the other wasn’t, ok. Life is full of situations which don’t exactly work to an individual’s conveniance and that’s ok too. An individual that is so resentful that they feel like they have to go against Hashem in some shape or form should speak with someone they feel close with and work out their feeling. There will be many real, tough nisyonos in life (whether you are torah observant, secular, or not even jewish) that an individual must strive to accept with love and bitachon. Hashem loves us. So do our parents, teachers and prinipals. While a parent’s love is obvious, the teacher/prinicpal expresses their love by putting their heart and soul into mechanech us. The least we can do is show Hakaras Hatov and DERECH ERETZ whether we like/agree with their decisions or not.

Thank you Beis Rivkah and Bnos Menachem for being such wonderful mechanchos of our future leaders.

  • former B.R.H.S. student

    To R.C.L.

You seemed to believe what you “heard over shabbos” I know for a fact that Bnos Menachem hanholah did not know before hand! The principal was very surprised and doing the right thing welcomed B.R. students in with a SMILE and both schools davened B’ACHDUS!! Something the REBBE would be very PROUD of!!!

  • bais rivkah twelfth grade

my fellow bais rivkah student since we r all talking about achdus let me just say that its amazing to c the achdus we r all practicing in supprting our principal! Who has been the principal for 30 odd years and was highered directly by the rebbe. As I read through the article I wanted to comment so much not as a reaction and a gossiped but as a number one fan of my principal who has seen her in action for four years and who defend her anytime anywhere! But my fellow bais rivkah girls did that for me! I just wanna mention two things Wednesday afternoon 240 girls were missing from their seats in shul and 300 other girls were watching on in disbelief, could u imagine! While around 60 girls were missing at another school I dont needa use name we all no who I mean. She acted as a principal who was worried and concerned and prob upset that two grades picked up and left it was a school day! Yes Purim Katn but a school day! Last year on April fools a prank was also held y wasnt that online? Bec it wouldnt cause more politics then already exists! We could have achdus in many ways, so as long as there’s achdus does anything apply? My second piont is tgis is twelth grade the is something called gemer and before u have a gemmer u get the day off to study his year the hanhala wantedno study days and we students were upset at that piont our teacher, since giving credit and quoting a name brings moshaich who we all need, mrs gurewitz said ” the rebbe was so involved in every detail of bais rivka and he literally placed the responsibily andkoach into hanhala. Hands that u r using ur time acordindly and that u r lead in the right way to the right decision! I wanna say that what she said I put into play right now! I said I’d say two things but I wanna mention one thing I ATTEND tHe RebBEs school! The frierdiker rebbe started it named it after his mother and put it in the hands of the rebbe! How is it not the rebbes school? Again thank u mrs t! For everything u do ! Thank u for the good and bad without which where would we have learned kabalos oal and to respect the decision of authority

  • question

someone just commented that the faculty of bnos menachem knew of the prank the night before.
if this is true, this throws a whole new spin on what happened. the bais rivkah faculty was caught by surprise and did not have time to think through the best way to handle the situation, while bnos menachem did. furthermore, why did bnos menachem’s principal not contact bais rivkah’s principal so that there would be a unified response to a situation that involved both schools?

  • BR fan

    To RCL
You sound like you know every thing and sorry to tell you, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.
1.Bnos Menachem did not know of the prank they acted the way they did only because they knew that it was just a purim joke

2.You say that we should not decide what the Rebbe would think and what are you deciding!?

    3. You could send your child to a school which does “everything the Rebbe want” look at the girls that come out of BR 40% go on shlichos 60% go to..

  • picking on children

With children in general and teenagers especially, you have to pick your battles wisely. Getting “tough” over tznius I can understand but this is just nitpicking.

Don’t be surprised when these children get a little older and spurn your ways an avoid you entirely. Having to justify doing what you want can become really tiring.

  • we love brhs

first of all every one chill and get over with it it is such old news like from last week and my head is hurting from this topic second of all mrs tachtel is hte best principle in the whole world we love her she is the most amazing person i know

  • NOT PROUD BR STUDENT

WHAT BAIS RIVKAH HAS DONE IS BASICALLY TELL THE GIRLS THAT PURIM KOTON IS NOT SOMETHIG TO CELEBRATE. I TOO WAS THERE AND WAS NOT SURPRISED BY THEIR REACTION. I HAVE BEEN EMBARRASSED IN FRONT OF MY ENTIRE CLASS BY MY SO CALLED “MECHANECHES” (IS SHE TOO THE REBBE’S SHLIACH? AZ OCH UN VEI) AND YES, I THINK IT’S THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPEND FOR THIS TO BE PRINTED. IT’S ABOUT TIME PEOPLE GET A CHANCE TO EXPRESS THEIR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HORRORS OF BAIS RIVKAH. THERE IS NO ONE THERE TO TALK TO. NO I’M NOT ONE OF THE PROUD ONES. I WISH I COULD GO TO BNOS MENACHEM. MAYBE AFTER THIS MY PARENTS MIGHT DECIDE THAT. ALL THE GIRLS WERE TRYING TO DO IS WHAT THE REBBE WANTS TO HAVE AHAVAS YISROEL AND ACHDUS BUT BR SAID A BIG FAT NO.

  • br and bm students

OK everyone the present situation is BNOS M AND BAIS R ARE UNITED AND ALL THE GIRLS FEEL CONNECTED NOW AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO BE THIS WAY FOREVER no matter what the hanhala says. WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE BACHDUS AND BE FRIENDS AND FABRENG TOGETHER TALK TOGETHER AND LOVE EACH OTHER this will bring moshiach NOW

  • brhs student!!!!

i feel that as an insider i have the full right to declare that all of my respect for brhs has just been flushed down the toilet. who would think that a harmless prank would bring out such nasty character. the whole day we are being lectured about moshiach what are we as lubavitchers doing to bring moshiach??? i think that brhs should be ashamed of themselves!!!

  • ....

It’s time for BR to expand their curriculum beyond the sock size and how long their students earrings are. If there is anyone from BR faculty reading these comments they should reflect on the girl that wrote that all BR teaches is “what not to do”, in contrast to BM who “builds up their students” – Which derech do you think is the correct one in these times?

I am surprised at the lack of dialogue between to the two schools. Had I been a principal in either of the schools I would have made a quick call to the other principal, and come up with a unified way of dealing with it. The boys schools work together on many different fronts (father and sons learning etc.). Even though they realize the other schools perceived competition, they acknowledge that working together on certain things benefits the community and student bodies as a whole. Why can’t the girls school have a similar level of interaction? I don’t know whos fault this is but I am guessing that it is time for BR to get off their high horse, acknowledge that there is competition that has overall benefited the community and should deal with it. Before BM opened people complained for years that there are no alternatives for the girls. BH CH parents now have choices were to send their sons and daughters too. There is nothing like competition that keeps competitors on their toes and make sure they are always elevating their level of service. BR should realize this while they still have teachers working for them.

  • A SAD PARENT

How unfortunate and sad — but it takes an incident like this to show people’s true colors their real FALSHKEIT. All of a sudden the principle knows how to take swift and strong action over a petty incident. But what about the REAL ISSUES??? Is she responding to the issues of TZNIUS? Or the more important issues that are effecting our children in today’s day and age? Ah nechtiger tug!! BR might have been a great school, but the sinas chinum being perpetrated by the hanholo is just the opposite of what the Rebbe would want. And I just LOVE the false righteousness of all those “the Rebbe’s school”niks. They remind me of the holier than thou “Detroitnik” who posted a comment recently labeling all non-shluchim as “Farmers”. The assumption is that BR is the be-all-end-all of the Rebbe’s Moisdos and that we cannot carry the Rebbe’s wishes on under any other name. I wonder if that makes those that went on Shlichos after Gimmel Tammuz “not the Rebbe’ Shluchim” too?

  • Alubavitchwoman.

All I have to say I admire bnos menachem’s positive attitude and believe that is the way the rebbe would respond. P.s. They are all the rebbe’s daughters and should be treated that way.

  • Both sides of the story

TO ALL THOSE SAYING THAT THERE ARE 2 SIDES TO THE STORY: Can you PLEASE enlighten us to what the other side is? To just say it’s not true, but not provide any facts otherwise sounds very disingenous.

  • domino effect...................

i think what they did was kinda funny! and where does the entire movie thing come in? what is with r pricniplas today? all they think about us is that if were not at school were ditching because we went to the movies!!!!! get a grip! did you ever think we just might be sick? or out of town? we have better things to do then waste or time at movies!!!!!!!! im telling yuo all of the principals get together and tell each other whats going on in every schopol cause they telll us all the same thing! like “its a domino effect! if you do it, it will lead someone else to do it and then the entire school!” or “ ”they will just end up at the movies!” GET OVER IT WERE NOT ALL AT THE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rabbi on line.

anybody who says that the school should have taken in the girls, obviously has never worked in a proper school before. it is simply irresponsible to do such a thing quite franckly, all though it sounds like fun. if anything it was wrong of Bnos menachem to bring in those students from Bais rivka, it has nothing to do with harm or no harm. as a school principle you dont take in children who are not students in your school.
I as a teacher in what is considered a more “progressive” school, would never take in students from the outside if it was not prearranged.
having said all of that i still think what the girls did was pretty cute!

  • a simple observer

It seems that the girls were able a accomplish a unity that the elders couldn’t (and even when given the opportunity, wouldn’t).

  • A Shocked CH Resident

The principal of Bnos Menachem reacted brilliantly!
Not only did she gain support and admiration from BR students, but from her own students as well.
    Yasher Koach!

    As for the movies:

“when Purim comes around and a class decides to go to the Empire State Building to do Mivtzoim, as a ‘prank’, and a few girls end up in the movies, where would it end?”.

    I don’t see a connection.

This article makes BR look better than they really were in the story.
From what I heard, they said shockingly disgusting things…

The problem is that the Hanhala doesn’t
set an example for the girls!
If the Hezbella, sorry…Hanhala aren’t willing to demonstrate Achdus, what do they expect from their students?

And this has a major impact on the community in general!

May we merit to greet Moshiach through acts of Goodness, Kindness, and
    Achdus!

  • Dvorah

I have grand-daughters in both schools. They are all B”H doing very well in their respective schools.. They have a very positive, and healthy attitude to one another, with much ahavas Yisroel, and complete lack of any negativity whatsoever. When anything other than total ahavas achim crops up (usually initiated by the administration) the girls are rightfully upset and disappointed in their hanholoh. All the girls really yearn for is total achdus and togetherness of Bnos Chabad. After all, they are constantly taught that Moshiach’s comming is imminent and dependant on all of our commitment to Achdus and Ahavas Yisroel whatever the nisoyon present. Let’s take the lead from our tayere girls–unconditional unity and love for one another!

  • ITS ABOUT TIME

i thought the whole brhs production was about its about time for moshiach????? the princebel seemed very into it at production so why can’t she see that its about time the schools stopped looking down at each other.
on the other hand it still is school but there is no reason for suspending girls for entering purim with simcha. meshe nichnas adar marbim bisimcha

  • BM Girls In General

It was the most awesome sight to enter the Davening Room in BM and see over 200 BR and BM girls (WOAH) davening together…
    It was really uplifting!

I’d like to personally thank Mrs.Majesky for being a good sport about the whole prank,
and letting us truly feel Purim Koton!

  • Observer

The real shame here is that the girls would never have been given permission for an organized, coordinated and combined celebration of a special day. Why can’t there be cooperation between the two schools? who gains from this dissention – we know who loses.

Moreover, our future mothers are being educated inan environment of sinis hinim.

  • Jimmy Justice

I once heard a story about the Frierdiker Rebbe (who I love dearly). He was an expert in copying handwriting. Once as a child he wrote an original maamer in the handwriting of his grandfather and snuck it into his fathers desk.

When the Rebbe Rashab found it he was shocked and surprised to see a new maamer supposedly by his father that he had never seen before.

Now if this story is true that is pretty funny, and it also sets a precedent for practical jokes in the spirit of good humor. We are taught “simcha poretz geder” , laughing and good attitudes can break through all boundaries.

Obviously practical jokes that harm other people are not appropriate.

When reading this article I laughed at the sense of humor all the students showed.I thought not only was their prank funny, but it was very positive because it involved davening.

I will not condemn the reaction of the Beis Rivka principal because if I had the same responsibilities that she has, i dont know how i would have reacted. But I do applaud the principal of Bnos Menachem for understanding it was a harmless prank and going with the flow.

When i was in Lubavitch yeshiva, the last week before graduation my classmates and i removed all the toilets from the 3rd floor bathroom and hung them on ropes from the roof.In hindsight our joke was funny but also very wrong because it damaged yeshiva property.

I am happy to read that the current groups of students are able to do funny pranks without hurting anyone or damaging property.

  • a proud former br girl!

I want to begin by thanking CH.Info for writing this article. I think that contrary to being gossip, there is an important lesson for many to learn. Issues like this ought to be addressed. This is a community and a conversation like this is benificial for all. There is no name calling rather a factual statement of the events. While BRHS is a great school they can learn from this mistake. It was purim katan and a bit of organized humor is highly appropriate!!! I do not think any school would want such politics to ensue–perhaps acknoledge one another. Both schools provide a tremendous service to our community. Some act of achdus would create great heights!

  • teacher

I am an out of towner teaching in a regular school – not chabad. In any school, the students would be suspended or punished because of the tremendous safety issues. If something goes wrong, the school is responsible and can be sued.
Ask any public school principal what they would have done – and I am afraid to say they would have punished the pranksters.
If the students want to do something together, it should be organized in a safe and responsible way

  • Just Anoda Mushky

For all those that believe in the rumor that Mrs.Majesky planned this whole prank..
    Come on,
She at least deserves credit for:

    Firstly-
Coming up w/ such a cute Purim Prank!

    Secondly-
For being such a good actress!
You had to see the look on her face when she entered the Davening Room
    (Pure Confusion and amusement)!

So either way she deserves credit :)

  • BRHS alumna

To “mechanech” I doubt how you can call yourself a mechanach by trashing other mechanchim.

    Of course BM welcomed them:
    a. They knew it was coming.
    b. It legitimises them, they are the ones the need to be legitimised.

A normal Moised, know what responsibility is, not allowing girls to run from here to there as per there liking,

BM get over your chip of not being acknowledged at the Bnos Chabad convention, I understand you need to vent, but be open about why you are venting.

And yes, BR was started by the Freideker Rebbe, BM was not, it might be a good school in CH, but it is not a moised of the Rebbe.

  • bmhs girl

to all of those who believe in that pathetic rumor: mrs majesky DID NOT PLAN THIS OUT TO SEE HOW BR WOULD REACT!!!!! THIS WAS COMPLETLY THE STUDENT’S IDEA!!!!!!! thank you mrs. majesky for showing what true acdus is, and allowing them in, instead of kicking them out. When the time comes for these girls to register thier daughters, they will remember this, and the reaction of br’s principal, and it will definently have an effect on thier decision.

some of the people’s comments are seriously disgusting!!! it was a cute prank in honor of purim koton, and it was done b’achdus. This has nothing to do with movies, etc.

And by the way, at bnos menachem, mrs majesky welcomed them with a smile, sat them down, and we davened together. afterwards, we were all dancing and singing ‘tiyereh brider’ and so on. While in br, the principal said that she doesnt care if they freeze, and that they should go back. NOBODY SAY ‘CHECK OUT YOUR FACTS,’ ETC. BECAUSE THIS WAS ALL ON VIDEO, AND WE ALL SAW IT!!!

please dont blow this stroy out of proportion; it was a prank, we had fun, and its all over. the rumors going around are not true, and the drama would have ended a while ago, if everyone would keep thier sick comments to themselves, and not express everything that goes on in thier minds.

    gut voch

  • wont say

the funniest thing is that mrs tiechtel told us that shes not going to even try to find out who was the leader to this and then she went and picked 3 girls and susspended them and while there susspended they have enough work you can think they killed some one they have to stay in the dorm till 12:00 and then go teach in headstart and mrs tiechtel said that they didnt get upset because it was bnos manachem that we went to geuss what no one believe it for a mint becasue they did get upset because it was bnos manachem because if you know politicks they hate bnos manechem with the entire hear and soul so yeh let her continue bluffing

  • Yossi

It woudl appear that BM was motivated to make a political statement that they are about Achdus, when in reality the =entire school is based on Machlokes.

BR showed that ‘mashmaas’ and seder are key and that student don;t run the school and should not be allowed to make Purim Koton pranks.

Yet people seem to be defending BM and accusing BR. It is mamosh an Olam Hafuch.

  • A CHer that appriciates a joke!!

    to R.C.L.
I dont know where you got your facts from but as almost all the students know the BR princibal knew about it the night before and the BM princibal didnt know what was happening when 200 BR students showed up at her school.
(the whole thing was planned way after she left schoool, noone called her, and she doesnt have any kids in school.)
And if you think by not allowing teenagers to have proper fun they wont have fun, you are wrong. They will only turn to the wrong types of fun.

Any parents wondering where to send your daughters, I’d say that BM is you best bet.
    A Gutte Voch!!!

The problem with education in todays day and age is clearly spelled out in todays day and age.

Children, yes thats what they are, should not be able to take a day off school without the permission of the school Hanhala. What kind of example does it set when parents back the decision of doing something behind the back of the school, and then badmouth them too.

This is absolutely inappropriate and a terrible example of the lack of hadrachah in to days school system.

As an educator and teacher i hope the principal in my school would do the same thing.

  • keep your comments to yourself

The Rebbe of Kotzk once said “not every thought that crosses your mind is appropriate to say, not every you say is appropriate to write, not every thing you write is appropriate to publish”

  • Acdus Revolution

Go ahavas yisroel girls go! you girls are martyrs! keep fighting the fight for judaism and the rebbe, don’t let these self interest individuals eat you! we should see more achdus initiatives happen! the fights between administrators do not have to concern the girls or boys of our community.

  • To the people of our community

In the age of unbelievable, devastating tzores and illness that plagues our community, I also wonder what is the point of posting something that outrightly leads to lashon hara and ofcourse as all lashon hara conversation leads to, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A SITUATION THAT ONE MAY TRULY HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT AND INCITING THEM TO ADD INFORMATION THAT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN RESEARCHED OF LOOKED INTO AND ADDING SENSATION, HURT, AND PAIN TO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS; FELLOW JEWS; FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

As an insider, I will state some facts. The principal of Bnos Menachem was informed of this “prank” on the night before it occured. She was given exact administrative directives for how to respond. She followed suit. Yet, the next day, when the other students arrived at Beis Rivkah, the principal had absolutely no idea and had no time to be “prepped” and prepared” for the strategically acceptable response.

There are two sides to every story. Shame on you all for writing these posts without knowing the truth.

In today’s day people are suffering from so many issues, health, parnosa, lack of adequate housing, children going off the derech, shalom bayis difficulties… etc. why, why, why, would we engage in matters of hate and such conversations on an online forum?

People of Crown Heights, get yourself busy with doing something for a friend, neighbor, or just somebody who needs help.

  • A traumetized eleventh grader from CH

It is very sad about what happened because the hanhala were the people who saw the rebbe and have what memories to take example of. All we have, the 10 and 11 graders is videos and some of us, dollars from the rebbe. And yet, we are the ones who carry out the rebbes message of achdus and ahavos yisroel and get punished for doing what we were told.
Also for the people who say BRHS is the Rebbes school. So is Bnos Menachem just because the school was founded after gimmel tamuz doesnt mean they’re not the rebbes school. All the shluchim who became shluchim after gimmel tamuz are also considered the rebbes shluchim.
I salute the BM principle for acting with achdus and class the BRHS girls all respect you and BRHS, well it was kinda expected but you have much more things to worry about.

  • ashamed for BR

BR has a lot to learn from BM. If this is how BR acts to an innocent Purim prank, I’d hate to see how they punish their students for actually misbehaving!!!!

  • the rebbe writes

what happend to the letter where the rebbe clearly writes that anything done in a school has to be first approved by hanola i guess to all the big bnos menachem chassidim it doesnt count what goes around comes around so watch out! messing with bais rivkah is messing with the freidiker rebbe and the rebbe ….the rebbe actually wrote that to bais rivakh in a letter…

  • Dina

If BRHS girls would decide to play a prank and go daven in 770 on Purim Katan, would we all be commending them on their “holy” deed? Achdus is very “holy” but a school has a right to uphold its seder and decorum. The girls would deserve to be penalized in their 770 act as well. As a BRHS alumni I could totally understand the girls. Good for them for their humor and attempt at Achdus but respect the Hanhala for their decision – I’m sure it was not an easy one.

  • disgusted and sad

It’s common knowledge that Mrs. Teichtel and Bais Rivka hate Bnos Menachem but now our 10 and 11 graders know it too. What a lesson in Chinuch. Now you even wonder about lack of Ahavas Yisroes? From our Community Council chairman who beats up innocent men down to a principal who punishes 16 year old students based on her HATE for another Mossad. All I can say is Hashem Yirachem Alainu

  • ch resident

i am also an insider and MRS MAJESKY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS THE NIGHT B/4, AND SHE WAS NOT INSTRUCTED HOW TO HANDLE THE SITUATION.

Non of the principals knew, and they both reacted differently. To all of those who think they know all the details, apparently you dont. Don’t beleive in the rumors, and move on. it already happened, and you can’t change the past…get over it!!!
a little fun in life won’t hurt-especially since nothing was damaged.

Our children suffer more from the Hanhala bashing and from the news on CH.info than from anything else that happened. The example this sets for solving educational disagreements is awful. What’s next? Every move of every teacher gets videotaped and questioned? How many of us are ready to have a 24 hour video crew in our homes broadcasting every parent- teen conversation, especially taken out of context?
There is a basic trust in Hanhala and there are numerous letters from the Rebbe about parents supporting Hanhala. My experience as an out of town parent has been extremely positive in regard to the zeal and devotion of Bais Rivka to my daughter’s safety. If I disagree with a policy, I call the authority QUIETLY. My daughter’s ruchniyusdike and emotional health depends on teamwork between teachers and parents and an attitude of TRUST and GRATITUDE!
I’m sure Bnos Menachem is also totally devoted. Win! Win! We can all be OK. To be great, you do NOT have to bash someone else. May Hashem have mercy and send Moshiach Now!!

  • sickened

    To CH resident:

You are dead wrong. Plenty of damage was done to Bais Rivka & the Hanhala thanks to you & others like you who enjoy & only know how to cause trouble.

But I guess BR is fair game, right?

Now…let’s see if this gets posted.

  • Message Not Messanger

    1. To those that have a problem with their “dirty laundry being aired” (or bichlal – how could chinfo post something like this, or why post things without proper research, ETC): Welcome to the era where/when Yisbarriru ViYisLabnu. Yup. That which you say or do may get publicized. Regardless of whether it is right/wrong to post something, try addressing the meat of the matter. Past eras had the “luxury” of sweeping things under the rug. Not today. If you say or do, you better be on solid ground. And your defense can not be – why is this being dicsussed?

    2. Yagdil Torah dictates that there is no monopoly on eductional institutions. BR may have a problem accepting the reality of BM. This incident may have played on that unhealthy, raw nerve.

    3. Real educators use most incidents (especially one that is getting attention) as learning/teaching experiences. There is MUCH that a healthy educator can use in this event that can be made constructive (including the ability to say, “we made a mistake”).

    4. I found it refreshing that two large groups of students, from different schools, were able to coordinate a “prank”, chose the day of Purim Kotton to do it, and did one which is creative, harmless, within school boundaries (in a Purim way), etc.

    5. For an educator to go on record to express the anticipaition that their students would, en masse, go somewhere considered forbidden, is a fundamental educational error. Your expectation leads the student.

There’s amazingly (for such a seemingly simple event) so much more here that one can use and analyze, but Ain Kan Mikomo.

  • From a distance

Interesting. Who are the mature ones here. The students or parents? Sheves achim gam yachad. We educate our children to be mekarev the world yet amongst ourselves we are merachek other children who are innocent bystanders. Being from out of town with no alliance one way or the other, maybe BR admin should just chill a bit. Sounds like they feel threatened. Thumbs up to all the girls from both schools for rising above the politics. Shame on todays mechanchim who deplore mutual respect and TRUE Ahavas Yisroel. Yes BR. What does the Rebbe truly want?

  • CH Mechaneches

BRHS alumna writes: “BR was started by the Freideker Rebbe, BM was not, it might be a good school in CH, but it is not a moised of the Rebbe.”

If I am to follow your warped logic to its final destination, all shluchim who were appointed after Gimmel Tammuz are not shluchim, all Chabad Houses established in the last 14 years are not moisdos of the Rebbe and, shockingly, all our children born during these years are not the Rebbe’s children.

It’s no wonder that with the archaic views most of the “Crown Heights elite” employ, our children so often misunderstand the role they have in our community.

Please don’t tell me that I lie, I educate your daughters on a daily basis.

Had any person on this website been principal, you would have dealt with this matter in your own way based on your experiences as an educator. Therefore, both Beis Rivka and Bnos Menachem’s principals were justified in taking what action they each felt was appropriate for their school.

  • a shluchah in the West Coast

As an educator and shluchah who lives out of town now, and as a proud graduate of Bais Rivkah from Nursery School all the way up to Seminary Bais, I obviously feel very strongly about Bais Rivkah.
I feel, though, that this prank was very “kosher” , perfect timing and done in the right spirit and with the right intensions. A little bit of humor for Purim Koton, I find was perfectly OK.

It sounds like the principal of BMHS felt the same way. Let us just say and give the benefit of the doubt that probably the Principal of BRHS was under a alot of pressure from her administrator and just overreacted.

Nevertheless children and young adults need a bit of fun, too!

  • Chani

its very ironic to see that people feel they can say their opinions without their names. They don’t write their names because they actually know that their opinion, is lacking of ahavas yisrael, and is only drawing the 2 schools to be more seperate. So by saying that Bais Rivkah was wrong, because they were’nt encouraging achdus, is only making more politics!!
Please stop the fighting!!!!!!!!! Ad Masai???

  • out of towner

As an out of towner, I want to know who paid these useless BR girls, to praise mrs. T. What she did was wrong, and uncalled for. Treat these BM girls with some respect. The are humans. My question is would the Rebbe be happy that you are humiliating Jewish, lubavitch girls in public? What would the Rebbe say?
Also, mrs T learn from the admin of BM they treated the girls like people. They welcomed them in, and didn’t make them stand outside in the cold.
Mrs. T should be ashamed of her disgraceful behavor.

  • Achdus Shmachdus

Achdus shmachudus- whoever is writing about that- I doubt the was the girls goal- the goal was to have fun- don’t think BR not acceptance of the girls was undermining their achdus!

Any BR student that is totally shocked and is hacking things about “they teach us about Moshiach and Ahavas Yisroel etc” apparantly is looking for issues.
It was a cute prank- but it was a prank and BR responded correctly

  • Out of Towner

How about BRHS girls and BM girls get together, – with the brochoh of all their great Hanholohs, and make the most amazing “Achdus ” producing Purim Shpiel!

  • MICHAL RUBIN

Thank you CH.info for keeping us iformed but it takes to long to read all the comments why not just make a poll thanks. To everyone else with an opinion let something good come of this and pledge a donation to the school you think acted correct.

  • eye witness

    to RCL:

I don’t know where you got your facts from, but it’s a lie! I was there and Mrs.Majesky had no idea about the prank. In fact, it’s vice versa, Mrs.Teichtel knew before hand!

  • BRHS

I was part of the prank and I’m very proud of it! About the rumors that BMHS staff knew about it the night before: rumor also has it that BRHS staff knew about it before! I’m embarrassed to say that BR totally did not handle it correctly. Whoever gave us the speech when we came back told us “this is purim katan not april fools” we were trying to keep this as kosher as possible so we did it when we did it cause otherwise the school would have told us that we were celebrating a goyishe day. The facts are 100% correct. I personally lost respect for the hanhala because of the way they reacted and because of the way the portrayed themselves as being 100% correct while lying. I have a lot more to say about BR wrongs but i wouldn’t want to further embarrass our school…..

  • PIck Your battles...

In todays world, with all the meshugasim and fighting that goes around, we need to remember “to pick our battles” …look deeper into what the girls did, it was done with a sense of humor, it was tznius and in the right timing of purim koton…they also were doing it just for davening…come on “Get a life”and just “go with the flow”….“laugh WITH them not AT them” and you will get more out of them!

  • CAN YOU IMAGINE???

Can you imagine what would of happened had BR allowed the girls in?? The parents would be complaining about the lack of structure that BR has and how they went along with 250 or so girls walking to east ny and troy avenue and not showing up to thier own school. BR had no choice but to condemn the prank seder is seder purim katan or not Mrs Teichtel, you are the best and as a parent I feel sucure knowing that my daughters are in good hands!

  • BR alumni

How dare ANYONE speak ill of Mrs. Teichtel? Anyone who could say such things, or imply such things obviously doesn’t know her. Mrs. Teichtel is one of the best things that ever happened to BR.

  • Proud BRHS student..

Lets clarify what u mean when u say “bais rivkah” are you reffering to the staff, the princiapal, or the student, or all? because they are all different. so when u say bais rivkah’s reaction.. u mean the princapels reaction.. bc the students and 99% of the teachers didnt agree! i am a proud bais rivkag girl.. and im not responsible for my princapels actions.
yes i luv Morah T dearly, and she does put a lot of effort and care alot, but this was outrageous!! y put ur personal feelings twd another person or party, in running a mosad of the rebbe? i wudnt jusge bais rivkah just on this reaction of theirs, i think the students, and lotsa of teachers, are fabulous, also Mrs T is, but this thought out reaction was not what i wud have expected from a two yr old! when i say thought out, its because both princapels found out about this the night before, though not intentionally, and before anyone said anything to Mrs T that the BM girls are outside.. she simply walked out of the building.. like her daily regular routine, right? she just had a n urge to double check the weather? hmm..
purim is all about achdus and simcha, it was the little children that mordechei learned and davened with that wud bring the yeshua. and here, THE CHILDREN are trying to be Beachdus.. (as it says by moshiach veheishiv leiv avos all banim,) and boom- who is stopping them? the one and only role model hanhala mechanchos of lubavitch! how sad!! somehow lubavitch opens up doors to everyone, for real EVERYONE, we dont judge the backround, frum, not frum, normal, not so normal etc, but to our dear bretherin living in our community.. what a lesson for chicnuch! and what an act of maturity, like overwhelming!@ get over your ego’s, we need moshiach now!!! whats this bussiness causing more machleikos?

  • OMG

If the schools after Gimmel Tamuz are not the rebbes moised, then half the schools in the world cant be chabad, lubavich schools!
    Thats rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brains

I can tell that most of you come from CH because you have no idea about professionalism! I personally would send my child to Bnosh Menachem, but I think that Beis Rivka were 100% correct in their decision. Every single girl that attends their school is a huge responsibility every second that they are under their roof. The most unprofessional thing they could have done was take girls from another school under their roof, and take such a HUGE responsiblity apon themselves all in the name of Purim Koton! No offence to Bnosh Menachem, but their decision was obviously one of an unprofessional Mosed, and havent been a school long enough to realise what could have happened during that time and the consequenses they could of had to pay deal with.

  • when?

all i can say is this was put up as a test to evryone to c if they can really have achdus and not have quarells about everything – do people really want moshiach ?
but once again we have not passed , when will the time come?
    moshiach now!

  • overseas high schooler

I think this prank was really qt n original and i would hav definitly taken part in it. But, i would have also expected the consequences. Mrs T. definitly did the right thing, having a skl turning upside down is pathetic on any day. I don’t think this in any way was aginst achdus-it was simply keeping things orderly and under control.
I am not judging anyone; but if all you CH ppl are trying to show achdus, bashing another skl is definitly not the way to do it; especially not on a public forum, this forum is open for EVERYONE.

  • CH MOTHER

Heyy why don’t you ask to see the video??? You clearly hear Mrs. Teichtel tell the bnos Menachem girls they r against the rebbe.. she uses the term Yiddishe fern…I BET IF BM GIRLS WERE BAIS YACKOV GIRLS THE REACTION WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT.If Mrs. teichtel wants to punish BRHS girls for the prank ..that’s her desicion..It is how she reacted to the Bnos Menachem girls is the real problem.

  • rebbetzin rivkah was not the fr-s mother

for all those that are upset that this was put online…u think no one was talking about it before? i’m sure this was prime mikvah talk…and for the brhs 12th grader who said that the frierdiker rebbe named the school after his mother, u may go to the rebbe’s school (every chabad school is the rebbe’s school, fyi), but u sure don’t know the facts. the fr’s mothers name was shterna. the school is named for his gradnmother, the rebbe maharash’s wife.

  • Cee

to “Mother of BR grads wrote:”

That comment was itself the most smug thing I’ve ever read. As other have already commented, your claim that BR is “the rebbe’s school” because it was founded before Gimmel Tamuz is insulting to the Rebbe. When your daughter IY’H one day goes out with her new husband on shlichus in a new chabad house will you say the same thing? It’s not recognized because it was “founded” after Gimmel Tamuz! Shame on you for perpetuating (look it up) the holier then thou stereotype and attitude Beis Rivka displays.

  • beth rickah detention sitter

i am now going to school to sit detention – wasting my whole sunday afternoon, to sit some absurd detention. i think our school did overreact. why cant they take a joke for thier lives? cant school be a little cue sometimes. i understant that if someone would get hurt… but NO ONE would go to the empire state building, or go to the movies. hello – we are very chassidishe girls in beiis rivkah. all we did was switch fr davening as achdus. why should polotics ruin girls relationships with other schools? beis rivka – i think you should change your outlook on this episode. it was not a lack of kabolas ol.

  • two thumbs up to BMHS!

there are so many comments i don’t think anyone will ever get to this one, but regardless let me start by saying that i have a feeling the whole “what would the rebbe say” approach by BRHS hanhala is probably just a cover up for what they really feel. i think they have other(perhaps, and most likely, political) reasons for what they did, and saying something like “what would the rebbe say?” is just a way to take the focus off of something they don’t want people talking about.

second: alot of people commented that “that’s not what really happened” and “get the facts straight!” so to all those people, if you don’t mind, kindly set us straight.

otherwise if it is more or less correct to state that BRHS hanhala turned down the BMHS girls from entering the building (to daven), i feel that words cannot describe the severity of the situation that is going on in crown heights which this small incident reflects on.

two thumbs up to BMHS hanhala!

  • DBS

Sadly, Bais Rivka lost an opportunity to show some maturity.
But that’s what you get when the hanholo is out of touch with their students!

  • Bais Yaakov Alumni

    To Brains.

I attended Bais Yaakov, which is a very establsihed and profesional school!! We did things like this on Rosh Chodesh Adar (out of school things for Venahaposh Hu), and the school never made such a big deal!

Theoretically, if BR girls had done this with a BY school, the hanholo would likely not have reacted so harshly.

  • Sara B.

Last night I watched the Living Torah video and the Rebbe was speaking about how smart the yetzer hara is! If a storekeeper by mistake gives you an extra $10, you have two thoughts, the yetzer tov says give it back, and the yetzer hara says use it for tzedaka, etc.

I remember Hey Teves, when the seforim finally came back, how excited we all were! EVERYONE came in from all over the world (my cousin came in from Australia!)

You know the REbbes reaction? He didn’t say thank you, He got very upset and said, we are celebrating seforim! WHY DID YOU TAKE OFF FROM LEARNING? Go back to yeshiva NOW!

Of course we don’t know what the Rebbe would have said, but we have to look at what the Rebbe did and said. (The girls were going totally against seder)

What the girls did, while they had good intentions, was totally OPPOSITE of Derech Eretz (tricking teachers and hanhala), and chutzpadik.

Perhaps it was the yetzer hara in the guise of achdus and simcha.

  • to The pepole of our community

Your letter with it’s good intentions has actually added more fuel to this fire… maybe you should have ended with your first paragraph and left it at not spreading more loshon horah and now YOU should go busy yourself with community needs….

  • Fromer Br student who is no fool

    To dina
Had the BR girls gone to 770 to davven they most likely would not have gotten punished (unless of course they went WITH the girls from bnos Menachem)

  • Hindy

I am a former BR student and teacher in BR and now my daughter is b“h a teache in BRHS.
Whatever issues there are should be discussed by a group of parents getting together with the Hanhala and voicing there feelings and concerns.
This website is an inappropriate place for this issue to be discussed.
There are many legitimate things that you don’t post ”because of politics“, and you could and should’ve made the decision not to post it.
It has nothing to do with ”freedom of the press“, there is a place and manner to deal with this issue, and it’s not on the internet.
I do not know all the details, but speaking disrespectfully about the principal of the mosad where our children (and most of us) got and are getting their chinuch is inappropriate.
If you have an issue, discuss it with the menahel respectfully and in person, not on the internet.
How are our girls supposed to have derech eretz for their teachers and principals if they see them being trashed ”lain kol“
THis has nothing to do with the individuals (who are terrific menahalos and mechanchos) but with the basics of derech eretz.
Halacha says that even if you believe your parent or teacher is wrong (and I am in no way saying that they were) you are not allowed to tell them so except in a very specific way.
Our community and children are unfortunately suffering from a major lack of respect and kabolas ol as it is. Please don’t misunderstand me–I am not suggesting at all to push problems ”under the carpet”, just deal with them in the appropriate way.
The respect you show your children’s teachers and hanhalah will rub off on your children.
    Remember, our children are watching.

  • Marbim BSimcha

I work for a non- Lubavitch school in another large city, and the davenning switch between two schools has been a ritual for years-it takes place either on Rosh Chodesh Adar or Shushan Purim. It’s Adar shtick, and why not? These two schools are very competetive with each other, and do nothing together except for this. The hanhalos accept it for what it is, and the only “discipline” involved is if the girls take too long getting back to their own schools (like maybe taking a detour to the movies, NOT!)

  • I am yet another student from BRHS

basically all the comments written from fellow BRHS classmates are so pro BRHS hello face realty BRHS is NOT right in what Mrs. T. did

p.s. buchrim that commented have absoultly no reason to cuz it doesnt affect any part of their lives at all.

  • att. any students involved in the prank

To the BM Junior (few hundred comments ago) who said there’s at least 250 girls from BR who dont want to go back, you should just know that even the girls who were suspended said that they would never want to be in ANY OTHER SCHOOL!!! go back and read all the comments that proud bais rivkah girls wrote and you’ll see how much we love our school- please stop writing these brainless commments in which you bash a school that was opened by the Friedeker Rebbe!!!!!

I AGREE THAT WHAT MRS.TACHTEL DID WAS WRONG BECAUSE IT’S NOT LIKE WE DO SUCH THINGS EVERYDAY! AND WE DESERVE TO HAVE SOME FUN SOMETIMES. WE ARE TEENS AND TEENS WILL BE TEENS. JUST LET US DO OUR THING. AND FOR EVERYONES INFO THE GIRLS WHO WERE SUSPENDED ARE OUT OF TOWNERS! AND AS WE LEARN DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER.

  • a Crown Heights community member

    1. Wow. How scary to think that any establishment opened in the name of Lubavitch after Gimmel Tammuz is not “the Rebbe’s Moised”. What a fright. There go a couple of hundred new chabad houses, Preschools, seminaries, and even the unbelievable online school.
Right- whoops- down the drain. Sorry folks. You woke up too late. You should have been there before….
    2. It is an absolutely fabricated story to say that the staff at Bnos Menachem was informed of this prank in advance. An insider can only be an insider at one end, but at this end, the fact is that B’nos Menachem staff were NOT informed of this prank in advance.
Wishing everyone a Freilichen Purim, and let us all be zoche to the coming of Moshiach Now!

  • a teacher

BM abd BR both did “the right thing”.

The most difficult part of any Chinuch position is the constant decision making. In this case neither school had a “policy” or a plan prepared for such a situation.

When a principle is faced with such a situation it’s interesting to see what she will fall fack on, professionalism or her own nature.

Logically, BR reaction was the more professional (though, from what I read, a little over done). BM’s reaction was equally legitimate but from the personal side.

Children generally like the more unconventional approach but (if performed correctly) there is a lot to be gained from real professionalism.

  • BRHS- THE BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

I WAS PART OF THIS THING, AND IT WAS REALLY FUN GOING TO BM AND DAVENING TOGETHER WITH THEM!!!! IT WAS A BLAST!!!!! MRS. TEICHTEL IS THE BEST PRINCIPLE EVER!!! WE DID SOMETHING WRONG, WE WERE EXPECTING SOMETHING BACK!

ANYWAYS, ITS PART OF THE FUN!!!! TO THE PERSON THAT SAID HES NOT SENDING HIS DAUGHTER TO BAIS RIVKA B/C OF THIS INCIDENT, JUST WANT TO LET U KNOW, BAIS RIVKA IS THE BEST SCHOOL IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!! IT ROCKS!!!! I CANT DESCRIBE HOW BR IS THE BEST SCHOOL!!!JUST B/C OF ONE LITTLE STUPID THING THAT HAPPENED, IM SURE BM ALSO HAS THINGS GOING ON LIKE THIS, JUST NOT POSTED ONLNE FOR EVERYONE TOSEE. BRHS, WE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND MRS. T YOUR AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • LESSONS LEARNED

We need to learn a lesson from everything, right? So here is what this is shaping up to be:

    1) Both principals were wrong. Except one asted with more heart and feelings than the other. If you are such a caring principal, and you really want to show b’emes that you really gave a hoot about what was wrong with this situation, why not pick up the phone and talk to whoever is responsible for these girls? I mean, just because they are not from your school, does that mean you should treat them like yesterday’s trash and just throw them out the door? If this was a group of girls from that pulled in from yehupitz — as terrible as it would have been — would the same tactics have been used? Which leads us to lesson…

    2) The main thread through most of the comments above is that only those fortunate enough to have received the Rebbe’s brochos before Gimmel Tammuz, are the “real deal”. All Shluchim sent out after Gimmel Tammuz must be “Kotlarsky’s Shluchim”, all children born since then are probably just related to the “Rebbe’s Chasidim” and all Moisod are obviously, just other “Jewish organizations”. Which leads us to lesson…

3)Anyone who believes that they are anyone, can preach about what the Rebbe would have said or known what the Rebbe would have wanted. However, since you can say that the Rebbe wanted one thing, while I can say that the Rebbe would have wanted something else, I am not sure what this lesson really teaches us. Which leads us to lesson…

    4) If BR would come off their high horse and face the reality of BM — and nothing more — just face the reality of BM, this post would not even exist.

  • Chaim

Yes, moisdos that open after Gimmel Tammuz, that are opened THRU th structure the Rebbe set up are moisdes of The Rebbe, not to say the other are not connected, but they are not The Rebbe’s Moidois. any school or Shliach that wants to start now, cant just open up, you need to go thru the proper system the Rebbe set up.

So yes, BM might be a good school, but it is not the Rebbe’s moised.

  • MACHLOIKES -NO! COMPETITION - YES!!!

To all those that are trying to paint BM as starting the Machloikes, you should think twice and realize that ultimately even parent’s of daughters in BR owe BM a BIG YESHER KOACH. Just like in any industry in the real world, BR was caosting along cranking out girls like a factory. It’s amazing how much they have cleaned up thier act since BM was established. Machloikes? No. Competition? YES! And who gains from competition? YOU AND ME!!!

  • avi

Its no wonder that students have no respect for authority. They see how their parents have no respect for the principals ,teachers etc and learn from them.Principals and teachers should always be right when you speak or write in front of your kids.

I personally am a former bais rivkah student, and i can honestly say that bais Rivkah is an amazing school. It transformed me into a serious, proud Lubavitcher and I am very grateful. Webby, yu’re having a lot fun, but it’s enough.

  • from another city

hhmmmm it seems so interesting for me to read this article when another almost identical story happened when i was in high school (though not in CH)

  • parent of brhs

I know what happened to bais rivka was a big flop and an imbarrassment to the school, but never the less it’s the best school the best staff and of course the best principle. Bais Rivka will always be the best school no matter what and no matter when.

  • Bais Rivkah alumnus

    To Brains:

“professionalism” doesn’t matter. What matters is what kind of (permanent) affect the pricipals’ reactions would have on their students.

  • Bais Rivkah alumnus

To “old student of BRHS” and “agree with bais rivka” :

Fact remains that part pf the reason Bais Rivkah doesn’t have structure and is a free-for-all is because they’re trying too hard to change that — by doing things, such as this, that won’t help, and not taking care of the real problem.

  • FYI

first of all, for those of you saying that this article is not true, it is! in fact, this article makes BR look better than they actually did!(i was there) And to those of you who are ashamed at the community’s gossip, you’re included, why did you read the article if you’re so ashamed?

  • Bais Rivkah alumnus

To all those BR students defending their principal:

Just because someone is awesome, and takes so much upon her shoulders and really cares about her students, and didn’t know about this before, etc. etc., doesn’t mean it’s impossible for her to mess up. The most awesome people can make pretty big mistakes.

  • Bais Rivkah alumnus

    To “the shoes”

I believe every one of the students doing this knew it was a PRANK and wasn’t considering doing this every day.

  • Dad in Flatbush

Thanks CH.info what you did was very important. Obviously this hit a raw nerve as I have not seen 100+ comments too often ;)
Those that posted “how could you and yada yada…..” are obviously those that want these fiascos swept under the rug.

From what I hear from my sources mrs T and by extension upper management made a big mistake. This has nothing to do with her doing this and that for 30+ years. Maybe in this day and age the school can use someone paired with her that perhaps is more forward thinking and can think out of the box.

While some of you will quote rules and all in BR’s defense ….in the end of the day what these girls were doing was a BM/BR united little prank for Purim Katon and one that I would dare say any other school in the country would do & totally harmless. The Teen pranks usually come with alot more baggage and a heck of alot more headaches.
Instead of preserving unity in the midst of all the in-fighting in Chabad BR did exactly the opposite and showed true vain leadership. The message to the kids were exactly the opposite of the BM response and it says volumes.

Trust me , many parents made there decision about the schools right then and there and over this weekend. Nothing could have been more stark and the video proof is enough for me. Most parents I spoke to were livid, and these are all BR parents!

That said leaving out BM in the chofbais shevat thingy was another major no no. You showed again no class whatsoever. NOTHING justifies that nor does our Rebbe! That equals no achdus nor ahavas yisroel. Pray, how can you even espouse the fact of doing what the rebbe wants and the rebbe’s school mantra with such unchabad acts and disunity?

I hope this was an event that will shake the walls and move people to reavaluate how they approach these critical issues and perhaps this event will not be lost and we can learn from it and grow together in true form to what the Rebbe would have wanted.

  • NOT PROUD BR STUDENT

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE SIAD IT RIGHT! IT’S WHEN YOU’RE CAUGHT UNAWARE IS WHEN YOUR TRUE COLORS COME OUT. I TOO AM A “MECHANECHES” AND WAS ACTUALLY THE TARGET OF MY STUDENTS PRANKS (ALOT WORSE THAN WHAT THESE WONDERFUL GIRLS DID BUT MY REACTION WAS TO TAKE IT IN STRIDE AND LAUGH ALONG, BU DOING THAT I GAINED THEIR RESPECT AND TRUST AND AM PROUD TO SAY THEY ALL GREW UP TO BE CHASIDISHE ROLE MODELS. THE FACT OF THE MATTER, WHICH I TOOK THE TIME TO INVETIGATE, THIS WAS ORGANIZED BY A GIRL FROM BM. AFTER A LENGTHY CONVERSATION WITH HER IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT THEIR PRINCIPAL WAS TOTALLY UNAWARE, AND I GOT TO KNOW A GIRL THAT BR WOULD PRAY TO HAVE. A SWEET, GENTLE, KIND HEARTED, FRUM, ULTRA CHASIDISHE (YET NORMAL) GIRL WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WHO ARE WE KIDDING WHEN WE KEEP HARPING ON TEE SAFETY ISSUE, I KNOW FOR A FACT BR IS TOTALLY NOT CONCERNED WITH THAT, AND WHEN THE GIRLS GO ALL OVER ON MIVTZOIM FROM SCHOOL AREN’T THEY IN AT LEAST AS MUCH DANGER?! GIVE ME A BREAK! AS FOR THE PARENTS COMPLAINING, I SEE LITTLE 5 AND 6 YEAR OLDS WALKING UP AND DOWN KINGSTON AVE. BY THEMSELVES, RUNNING ERRANDS FOR THEIR MOTHERS AND I AM FRANKLY SHOCKED HOW THESE PARENTS AREN’T CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. IT WOULD SEEM THAT ONE OF BR PROBLEMS IS TEIR STAFF(WHICH WAS NEVER ANY GOOD) HAS BEEN THERE TOOOOO LONG, THEY ARE OUTDATED AND TOTALLY NOT “WITH IT”. IF YOU WANT TO HOLD ON TO THE GIRLS YOU GOTTA LIGHTEN UP AND GET WITH IT. PERHAPS THAT’S ONE OF THE BIG ADVANTAGES OF BM THEIR STAFF IS YOUNGER AND MORE WITH IT, YET THEIR TEACHERS SEEM TO BE WAY MORE CHASIDISH AND FRUMMER THAN THE BR TEACHERS WHO PREACH ONE THING BUT PRACTICE ANOTHER.(THIS I SAY FROM KNOWING THEM ON A PERSONAL BASIS.
SO YES, BR WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!! PEOPLE NOW HAVE A CHOICE B”H, YOU ARE NO LONGER THE MONLPOLY. PERHAPS THIS WILL SPARK YET ANOTHER SCHOOL TO SPRING UP….. NOW WHAT SHOULD WE CALL IT?!

  • Proud BR Junior

To the BM Junior (few hundred comments ago) Who said that there are at least 250 girls who dont want to be in BRHS anymore: even the girls who were suspended said that they would never want to be anywhere else!!!! go back and read the comments written by proud, MATURE bais rivkah students and you will see how much we love our school. please speak for yourself, and to yourself, not on the WORLD WIDE WEB for everyone to see! and whoever posted the videos, you should be completely ashamed of yourself. besides for being a sign of your immaturity and thoughtlessness, it is a chilul lubavitch that such a thing is posted on youtube as an attack, lubavitcher against lubavitcher! aren’t we all brothers? please think before you act (and speak/ write)!!

  • The real issue

I think most people are missing the point the question isn’t wether or not the girls did something wrong ( missing seder acting with hefkeros) or wether the Rebbe would have approved this behhavior or not the question here is why the BR Hanhola turned away the BM girls and used deragatory termanology (as is evident in the video ) when addressing thema and for this a
public apology is due and herein lies the problem if the Br principle felt that her students did something wrong then by all means take it up with them but to address the other girls(BM) without any respect for them as well deems an apology from her personally .

  • JUST RELAX!!!!

i think ppl should be happy that the girls from both schools work together and are friends- not punishing them for getting together and lightening the spirit!

  • Napolean-s March

They should have done like in Morrisotwn
in the good ol days. Just throw someone in the mikvah, clothes and all!
How’s that for a “prank?” And, no one got kicked out for it.
Oh yeah, they would sing, “aye aye aye,
    throw him in the mikvah…”

  • Chaim

The difference between Bais Rivkah and Bnos Menachem is simple:

Bnos Menachem is a break-a-way from Bais Rivkah, so obviously their reaction would be quite different.

  • a floridian

Thank you Beis Rivka and Bnos Menachem for inspiring our school to do something for Purim Katan. Since there is only one Chabad school in my area, we had to modify your prank. Every class in the school switched classrooms with another class. And no, the principal did not angry. Every teacher and principal had a good laugh, and then we switched back, and continued with our regulatly scheduled classes. I think that this was definitely the proper way to handle such a situation.

  • dont judge untill youre in their shoes

let me tell you 101 ppl posting comments, one thing: beis rivka has many horaos from the rebbe. by bashing beisrivkah by something you hear is dicusting. do you even know the details?? NO! do you know the girls suspended?? maybe yes maybe no. do you know the prcipal of beis rivka? could be! but to go ahead and say that what they did was right or rong or say that the hanhala should have taken it differently is WRONG! it is not in your place to judge.
it was very dumb to put this on the web. people are posting stupid comments…. THINK BEFORE YOU TALK!!

we only hope for acdus in lubavitch. we dont need more problems!

  • OT- nick

i think it was 100% right what the principal of BR did. if she wouldnt of done that there wouldve been other complaints. be happy!! it’s Adar
    get over it!!

  • me

i am and will forever be a proud br’nick as a student of the rebbes school, no matter what will happen
    GO BRHS we rock!!!!

  • BRHS mother and daughter

    BRHS mother:

Firstly, I am ashamed that this story was posted here and the amount of comments it generated.

My daughter took part in this prank with my knowledge. I can’t say I was thrilled about it, but I wasn’t livid, as people say some mothers were. I actually didn’t think they would be able to pull it off and was amazed when she told me they did. Yes, it was a seemingly harmless prank. But all actions have consequences. If the girls were willing to participate, they should be willing to take the punishment. A few hours detention isn’t the end of the world and is a deterrent, so this won’t happen again.

I think the school bashing is totally unnecessary and wrong. While I believe that it could have been handled differently, I think Morah Teichtel is a great principal. And I wouldn’t pull my daughter out of Bais Rivkah because of this.

    BRHS student:

I also participated in this prank and I am cool with the school’s reaction. 2 1/2 hours of detention isn’t so bad. Besides, we’re going to look back at this someday and laugh. I think people who are taking sides should get their facts straight before judging.

Personally, I love Bais Rivkah and I wouldn’t go to Bnos Menachem. I’m not trying to suck up to her, but I think that Morah Teichtel is a very good principal. We were lucky enough to get away with just detention. It could’ve been much worse.

So please don’t bash Bais Rivkah, because it’s a great school.

  • English teacher

One lesson I hope everyone learns from this is how to spell the word PRINCIPAL as it pertains to a school. For the many who do not seem to know:

PRINCIPAL: The headmaster of a school
ex: the Principal of a girls’ high school

PRINCIPLE: A standard of moral or ethical decision making.
ex: Rambam’s 13 Principles of faith

Sentence: The Principal did not allow the students into the building because it went against the administration’s Principles.

Perhaps it is time to stop trying to extract other lessons and move on.

  • a confused crown heightser

why is this on the web???
    im confused
    isn’t it purim kattan
and also these girls weren’t bitul torah why should they get punished so severely morning and afternoon detention . suspension arent we sposed to be happy on purim katan and do some stuff upside down. no one isnt gonna switch schools bec of this prank. i9 think BR did the right thing and didn’t let the girls come in . if they wouldve come in the problem wouldve been that they let them come in . bm is wrong.

First of all, this shouldn’t be up here- it’s the school’s business to deal with the upset parents.

Secondly, how can you judge the school staff? Were you ever in charge of a school where the students didn’t understand that a prank is okay but school is school? These are not elementary kids were talking about!

  • Former BR student

I graduated from BR almost 10 years ago and it seems that nothing has changed over there. Thanks, BR, for making my choice easier.

“let the people directly involved deal with the issue, and thats it. by discussing it, and giving your opinion on it, you help blow it out of proportion.”

And how, exactly, would/could that happen?

My spin on this is that BR is slowly becoming … irrelevant. And the folks involved, whose livelihood, etc. is bound up there, probably suspect this and are unhappy at it.

If they really feel that BM students should go to BR, then why didn’t they welcome them in? With open arms? Why drive them away with both hands?

  • .........

    BR showed they had authority
but their punishment was too harsh.

  • A concerned mother

Sorry but I think many of these comments are VERY disturbing. If we care about the Chinuch of our children, and we study what the Rebbe answered to people on Chinuch questions — KeAtzas HaHanhalah was a frequent answer. Responxsible adults (I can’t blame kids — they aven’t learned enough yet) are doing a grave disservice to their children, and their friends’ children, and the young generation, by writing judgemental comments on the Hanholah of Bais Rivka. I know it’s not conventional wisdom to say this — but we are frum Jews, and Chassidim, and we need to follow the Torah — where we are taught “Kabolas Ol” and “Derech Eretz” and “Ahavas Yisroel”. So it is not within our RIGHT to write anything negative or judgemental about our Hanhalah’s decision — it is our job to have Kabolos Ol and respect.
Also, for all the very negative remarks about the principal — it is no secret who the principal of BRHS is — how can one air such comments publicly in the spirit of abiding by the guidelines of Kovod and Ahavas Yisroel? I respectfully believe that it is time for many of us to swallow our pride, and accept the authority of Torah and Chasidus and all the Ahavas Yisroel that the Rebbe so lovingly taught us, We need to constantly remind ourselves of this — and observe this — even if it means surpressing our own very intelligent opinions. Please give this some thought.

It is also my humble opinion, but this is secondary to what I said above, that SEDER in school was always emphasized by the Rebbe, and I believe, that that was what Morah Tiechtel was imparting to the students, that one cannot play around with SEDER in school, even in the guise of a prank on Purim Koton.

I believe we should all stop being so critical, and understand that if students in a school do a “prank” with the numbers of students that were involved, the principal dealt with it the way she felt she had to, as principal, and as many students are, accept the consequences, and move forward.

This bashing, in my opinion, is detrimental to our youth.

    Hatzlochah to all!

if you want to teach something in chinuch and you know going to a different school is wrong, you dont allow students from a different school in. if you want to teach students you dont teach them something bad. BRs reaction was very good! anyway we expected a punishment and some detention isnt so bad. also not doing anything to BM students as punishment for leaving the school is very bad. your just making kids think making trouble is allowed.
    BRHS ROX!!!

  • frustrateed

    This article is disgusting
it is so wrong you never know who reads this stuff
personally i think that whoever is bashing bais rivka is basically bashing the rebbe you all ought to be ashame dof yourselves bais rivka was preety much right in the way they reacted except for a few things while bnos menachem acted sly by being all sweet cuz they knew they woould look this way
    DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • says it all

to the br grad mother…what’s with all the (look it up ) stuff.? Come off your high horse and try to be an ISH BEIN ANASHIM.You clearly have a personal bone to pick as per your article.
But the main point I want to say is that as a mother of a BM highschooler who was involved in the prank,THE ONLY THING SHE HAD TO SAY WHEN SHE READ THE ARTICLE WAS “MA IT’S SO SAD THAT THE SCHOOLS HAVE TO FIGHT”

  • get the facts....

it doesnt matter where the girls went, wherever they would go it would be the same consenquence….this whole thing on the web, is just cuasing machlokis for no reason…

  • student not in Brhs who loves Brhs

I have a couple of things to say about this
    1. I am shocked and terribly dissapointed that someone could say that the concerned parents and teachers, if they don’t have a sense of humor their children will go off the dereh very fast. Who is it up to to decide who will go off the Derech. How can you say that to parents who are so devoted to their kids? How can you say that it’s the parents fault that a kid went off the Derech?

    2. How can you judge Mrs. Tiechtel when you were not in her place? WHy is Ahavas Yisroel mimportant, but judging a person favorably not?

    3. Bais Rivkah is an extremely good school who did what they had to do. DO you think that none of the participator’s were warned of possible consequences? I know for a fact that at least one was, yet did it anyway, willing to face the consequences, still loves Bais Rivkah and wouldn’t go anywhere else in the world.

    4. I can’t believe that students who are so proud of their school’s Ahavas Yisroel, then go and bash another school. Is that Ahavas Yisroel? From some of the BM girls responses, how can one say that it is Bais Rivkah that is the one ferociously against Bnos Menachem?

    5. I can’t believe this was published, but if it had to be at least we should all take a lesson to
    1. think before we speak
    2. not accept Loshon Hara nor lies
    3. not to judge a nother person

In the merit of Ahavas Yisroel, the Bais Hamikdash will be rebuilt, and bashing a school who did what they had to do, does not fit in that criteria. May we all be Zoche to the Geulah speedily in our days.

  • ahhhhhhhh!!!!

EVERYONE SHUTTTTT UPPP!!! im sorry thats not a vrey respectful thing to say but OMGGG theres no other way to stop it! its OBSURDDDD how a piece of information in crownheights gets FRKNN ATTACKED from literally 7 million sides and ripped apart and pounced upon like ANIMALSSSS everyone has to chillllll out omg you should all be ashamed of yourselves..everyone is entitled to their opinion, good for you if you think brhs is “correct” or if bnos menachem was…its overrrr the punishments were given out..it happppened THATS ALL!! its obsurd and embarassing how everyone in this community feeds off of gossip like parasites..GROW UP is all i can say to the people who sit online all day reading what other ppl comment and JUMPINGGGG at the chance to prove them wrong or fight with them..we should be ashamed of ourselves..this is the 2008 version of what happened all those years ago that destroyed the BAIS HAMIKDASH everyone is too ivolved in trying to fix this world from all the SHTUS and KLIPAAAA they have no tact and sense to realize that its our own selves that need the fixing..

  • a seventh grader

i dont care what you all say, but im an elementary student and when i was walking to school i saw tons of girls all walkign together to go to bnos menachem. when they got there the principal did greet them warmly and i heard from my sister that the brhs principals didnt. they screamed at the 12th graders for wearing shaitels and high heeled shoes, which is not against the rules and it was just a little purim shtick!! our grade too hid from the teachers and waited for them to find us, couldnt the brhs principals care a little more?? i mean, suspending 3 girls?? if i had a choice, i would go to bnos menachem, at least there they can take a joke!! and what else happened with beis rivka?? teachers….strike………….no school in the afternoon………. anyone remember??? this might be the rebbes school, but the rebbe would allow the 12th graders to listen to the rules while still having some fun!! maybe the 10th & 11th graders did get a little too excited, but at least it was achdus, everone together!! how sad that brhs cant even take a joke…………..one so little as dressing up or switching schools………….what a pity….

  • TIME FOR SOME RELAXATION

ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT EVERYONE, FIRST OF ALL RELAX AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH!!!
WHAT WE HAVE HERE ARE POEPLE WITH DIFFERENCES OF OPINIONS AND EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINIONS. NOW LET’S THINK FOR A MOMENT, IS IT WORTH IT TO GET SO EXCITED OVER IT AND POSSIBLY CAUSE ILL-FEELINGS?
ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS “DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY” MAY WE MERIT TO GREET MOSHIACH TZIDKEINU BEKUROV MAMASH, AMEN!

  • bmhs girl involved in the prank

you know what, im glad this is on the web because now everyone can see how silly it is for two schools in the same place to fight. the students are trying so hard to get along so that we can finally end this silly competition in ch. lets be realistic, ch was able to use another school. c’mon, can’t we just get along!? please write only positive comments!!!!!!! thanx!!! ( all the girls from both schools are good friends!!)

  • Enjoy watching HS girls have fun

it is quite amusing to see the creative names HS girls are coming up with to solidify their comments “a concerned parent” “teacher” “mechanech” etc. obviously these kind of posters cannot be adults with mature thinking- because ground rules in Chinuch are being broken i.e DON’T OPENLY QUESTION YOUR CHILDREN’S SCHOOL- EVEN IF YOU DON’T AGREE WITH THEM- YOUR CHILDREN WILL THEN QUESTION EVERYTHING THEIR ARE TAUGHT.
EVEN IF YOU DON’T AGREE WITH THE SCHOOL – KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND NEVER LET YOUR CHILDREN KNOW THAT!!!!!!!!

If there are takeh parents commenting and questioning a school’s decision- I know understand why some children- who attend very good schools- turn out the way they do!!!

  • 9th Grade Bais Rivkah Student

I will not read these digusting comments being said about my principle and about my school, and not open my mouth. This is outragous. I have been in Bais Rivkah all my life, and I love it. Bais Rivkah is an amazing school and so is the staff. Mrs. T. is the most sweetest, nicest, kindest, caring women I have ever met in my entire life. Her concern and dedication to the care of each and every student shows her warm and loving personality. I can’t believe these comments. This is an absolute disgrace. You should all be ashamed of yourself. I AM A PROUD BAIS RIVKAH 9TH GRADER!!!! Thank yiu Mrs. T for the love and warmth you have given to each and every one of us. And all you board sould out there, STOP having sinus chinim and go learn the halochis of Ahavas Yisroel. Once again, thank you Mrs. T and Bais Rivkah for the education that you gave me. and thank you Mrs. T for doing it with a smile. IF YOUR SMART, SEND YOUR CHILD TO BAIS RIVKAH!! I’m talking out of expirience.

  • a 7th grader in 404

im also a beis rivka elementary kid, and i can figure out more that 15 excuses for beis rivka and mrs. T. she is an amazing principal and she was just doing her job. beis rivka has an amazing curriculum and even bais chaya mushka and bnos menachem together wouldnt be the quintecence of beis rivka. its an amazing school, as i said so before, and pulling a little shtick is fun, but mrs. T did what bnos menachem would have done if it had been a bigger school!! if you cant beat ’em, join ’em!! but the biggest question is, why in the world is this even posted on line!! bnos menachem likes what they did, beis rivka thinks what they did was right, so nu, get on with life!! this is none of anybodies business!! why post!! just get on with things!! this site isnt for putting schools down, because once you do that, even if it is an amazing school, nobody thinks so!! so ch.info, dont do it!! its nobodies business what beis rivka thinks is right or wrong!!

  • :P

First of all, when you refer to Bais Rivkah or B’nos Menachem, your strictly refering to the Hanhalah, not ANY of the students! we had nothing to do with the way the schools acted, or the punishments (or not punishments) that the schools gave. Second of all, when i read the comments that people write about how BRHS did the rights thing, i just roll my eyes. At the end of the day, all you remember out of the entire prank is the results! the way BRHS handeled it was just plain old stupid! so unstrategic! the students would have listened better and respected you more if you wouldve let the BMHS girls in! all the resons you have arent good enough, cuz we wont change our minds of what we think. This prank is going to be the biggest talk of Bais Rivkah for the next long time! (most of us, not for the good) and for those of u who think its disgusting to post it, maybe its because ur trying to hide something! i loved the idea and it couldve been handled differently!
and dont diss the girls! i think the girls from BMHS and BRHS all ROCK! its the staff that were tlaking about!

  • BRHS knew!

    To R.C.L.-
when you wrote “on the other hand beis rivka hadn’t the slightest clue and the reaction was instinctive and i believe bnos menachem would have done the same had they discussed it earlier.” you MUST check what really happened! BRHS DID know about it and the principal said it to us OUTLOUD in a speach! good try tho!

  • no girls in school

As I write this there are 226 posts. Is this a record?

I think it’s rather sad that the topic that gets the most responses is the one that causes the most machloykes. Just shows you what the priorities are round here. Personally, I’d have been fine not knowing anything about this sorry situation.

  • A proud Alumna

    TO OUR DEAR ALMA MATER,

Let us not forget that most of the mothers, grandmothers, shluchos and mechanchos here in Crown Heights and all over the world are alumnae of Bais Rivkah. It is here we learned Alef Bais, studied Tanach and Halacha and were introduced and given an appreciation of Chassidus. We will forever remain indebted to Bais Rivkah no matter what. Not only because Bor Sheshosisa mimenu mayim al tizrak even bo, but because we truly appreciate and love our school

I think that though many of us believe in Kinas sofrim tarbe chachma, and as the community grew, the need of more schools was apparent, we can sympathize with the hurt of Bais Rivkah and not judge so harshly. Human beings are human beings and most of us would have not reacted better.

We know its hard, bur dear school you ingrained in us the Chassidic virtue of being mavir al midosov, of forgive and forget. You taught us the greatness of achdus and ahavas Yisroel even to someone who we feel does not deserve it. You raised two generations of the greatest women and are now on the third- on our grandchildren. You raised us well and proud of our alma mater. Please- we want to continue being proud. Please continue being our role model And may you continue giving the Rebbe nachas!

  • Arent we doing the same?

Unfortunately the focus fell on a sole incident in one school and given the opportunity to vent, a lot of hurt feelings are coming to fore from parents, other teachers and students that have had their share of frustration with the system.

But similar incidents perhaps happened in other schools and in our homes committed by ourselves that are less publicized and perhaps as damaging
    .
We all need to take stock- review our relations with our students, children, spouses, siblings, parents and authority before we judge others. How many of our actions and reactions are fair, dignified, not motivated by frustration, prejudice and/or lack of thoughtfulness?. As mashpiim, educators or just good friends do we always consider the consequences?

Our focus-let us all individually and collectively take stock and undertake some practiical hachlatas. Being more sensitive to each other and more cognizant of the achraiyus we carry as parents, mechanchim or just Chassidim of the Rebbe rather than standing al dam raiecha (on your friends blood)
    !
It could of been almost any of us in one situation or another.

  • mushkie

the switch was amazing…hu cares right now how mrs. t reacted? it should seriously NOT be affecting our future. May we be zoche to greet moshiach NOW bc of the way we dav.together on that day.

  • Since when is chutzpah okay?

Did anyone notice the chutzpa of the girls in the video of Bnos Menachem at Beis Rivkah? True, the principal was rather rude and unwelcoming. But what’s up with the girls answering back?! (Even if it was only one girl.)

  • Love your children:

As a mother, how can some of you mothers write nasty posts about your childs school. Dont you as a mother ever make a mistake? Dont you ever think that if you could be videotaped for how you acted, it would be so embarrasing? Dont we know that it take a city to raise a child? How could you do this to your own flesh and blood? Destroy their city? Mrs. T. is your childs principal? Dont take dignity away from your child by insulting the school that you send her to? Have respect for your child. Have respect for yourself. I am sure if every person reviewed their lives, decisions, and even day, they would find areas that they arent so proud of… but we love ourselves so we dont stick it out, let us love a fellow Jew.

  • TEACHER FROM OVERSEAS

I just pray that no students are reading these comments. I am a teacher in another country, but one of the biggest problems that mechanchim encounter today is a lack of respect and innocence from their students. When a student hears their teacher or other adults badmouth their school, teacher, principal – it erodes their relationship with their school, principal or teacher. I have experienced this firsthand and all I can say is that by exposing your children to this diatribe about either school it devalues their school and will lead to them not learning well or developing well because they are aware of all the maalos/chesronos instead of having complete respect and faith in their mechanchim.

“professionalism” doesn’t matter. What matters is what kind of (permanent) affect the pricipals’ reactions would have on their students.

I also went to Bais Yaakov and yes we did do things like this but only when it was ORGANISED!!!

I’M glad you are not running my childs school when you write “professionalism doesnt matter”

When I send my child out the house, I feel very safe knowing exactly where she is. The thought that my daughter is in one place but really being between 15 or 20 mins away in another direction is extremely scary to me. I’m glad Beis Rivka reacted this way, so the girls know, unless organised with the school, this type of behavior will never be accepted.

  • CHANI! (just to prove my point again)

to MUSHKY: oh yo make me laugh sooo much!!! you totally misunderstood me!! my point was that its sad that people are willing to lack of ahavas yisrael, only because they are anonymous!! now you get me?? my point wasnt that people shouldnt be anonymous at all, my point was that people shouldn’t think you can say things that lack ahavas yisrael, because no one knows who you are. and please dont get heated up, because i’m just not getting to that point, i like to take everything in stride… i hope you can too. HAPPY EARLY PURIM!!!

  • Beth rivkah australia

as a grandchild of the founders of my school, i gladly hold my head high when i speak of my school. i am proud to be part of beth rivkah australia and i am thankful that here we only have one chabad school, where we promote is achdus, being that it comprises of not only chabad girls but ones from different backgrounds as well.

while our standard may supposedly not be as high as yours, we value the concept of respect, and that of setting an example.

not to be disrespectful, but if my mother or principal was commenting the way some of you parents are, i would not know what to think of my school. you are making your children lose values which you have tried so hard to raise them with…what for??

  • A Proud Beis Rivkah Parent

First of all,as a Beis Rivkah proud parent;I owe tremendous hakoras hatov for the wonderful chinuch that thy are instilling in our daughters. This article should have never been published, but since this is the case, this is what I think:Unfortunetly we all do mistakes, due to the fact that we are human beings.I think both schools could of done better,if both schools contacted each other, and acted in a unified manner,so the students of both schools would get the right message, because even though bnos menachem were welcoming towards beis Rivkah girls,It does not mean that they acted correctly. In the future,I think that with working together we could accomplish much more for the benefit of the entire community.and thats the genuine achdus message we could send our kids. And its never to late, you can still find ways to do it.(Please excuse any misspelled words and incorrect usage of grammar Because its not my first language.)All the best.

“ventured to say ‘when Purim comes around and a class decides to go to the Empire State Building to do Mivtzoim, as a ‘prank’, and a few girls end up in the movies, where would it end?’.”

Huh??? This makes NO SENSE to me. None.

    1) First of all, girls (and boys) DO go regularly to (places like) the Empire State building, with no apparent ill effect. Isn’t that what Mivztoyim is all about?

    2) What *possible* connection is there between “going to the ESB” and “end [ing] up in the movies”? Bizarre, just bizarre.

    3) What does “going to the ESB” and “end [ing] up in the movies” have to do with going to BR for a morning? Is Bais Rivkah *that* corrupting? <Shudder>.

  • cha

Honestly having watched the video… I think that people are overreacting. I was less impressed with the way the girls were standing around smirking, than with anything Mrs. T. had to say.

  • awacs

“I think both schools could of done better,if both schools contacted each other, and acted in a unified manner, …”

What do you think the chances are that *one* of those schools would *ever* contact or deal with the other? Better than your chances of winning the lottery? Didn’t the story from 22 Shvat illustrate this nicely?

  • annoyed

the point is… none of you know what the Rebbe’s reaction would be like. yes, you can try to imagine… but fact is… no one knows… so please stop thinking that you of all people are choshuv enough to know. and if you are talking about achdus… bashing another school in public is sure not the best way to set an example for our community. and pointing out a single person in our community and bashing her in public is worse than any reaction she had. none of you are any better with the comments you write in such a haste. (this is obviously pointed to all those who wrote negatively). none of us have a right to talk outright loshon hara about someone in such a way… no matter what was said or done.

  • Bais Rivka Eleventh Grader

This whole situation brings out the true colors of Bais Rivka.
It is debateable whether posting this article online was correct, but HOPEFULLY THE STAFF WILL LEARN FROM THE POSTS AND START GENERATING A MORE POSITIVE ATTITUDE towards the students.
FOR ALL THOSE WHO FEEL IT WAS INNAPROPRIATE THAT PARENTS POSTED , it is nice for the students to know that we have our parents support.

  • a mother in pain

The irony of all this is that the principals (count how many spellings have been used) are being haunted by the internet, that which they should have outlawed years back as every other Chassidishe or Litvishe mosad did but for liberal reasons let it go by.
The true colors are evident not only through the reactions in this scenario but even more through the view of the greater public!
The Chassidim of the Rebbe demand a school of the Rebbe to portray something along those lines not a mosad calling themselves the Rebbe’s mosad but would be mortified to learn that the Rebbe would have taken off his nesias (as is known that he had done that)should he stand outside the school bldg on school days.
Whether this story needed to go online or not is irrelevant but what is important is that we hear the pain of the community about those who have the authority but use it only to their advantage rather than standing up to what is required of them.

  • Can I say I speak for BRHS students?

UPDATE FROM THE HALLS OF BAIS RIVKA
After getting over the fact that we would be punished for our “Purim Katan prank”, 95% of BAis Rivka girls accepted our punishment gracefully, and appreciate that our school did what it had to do — and we learned our lesson and are ready to move onwards.
We love our principal — she’s the best! — and we feel awful that this whole thing has been blown out of proportion and caused some people to say nasty things. We really meant no harm, and we see, indirectly, we caused great harm to happen — because of all the nasty things that are being said.
Morah Tiechtel, we apologize for the pain and aggravation and hurt that this must be causing you — we would never have done this prank had we foreseen this.
BRHS is the best place in the world — and we feel terrible if we were the cause for any hurt to come to Bais Rivka because of our actions.
Please, Crown Heights, can we move onwards — and bring Moshiach NOW??
