Children Build Giant Rainbow-Loom Menorah
The construction of an 8 foot Rainbow-Loom Menorah was the highlight of the annual Chanukah celebration at Freehold Raceway Mall in Freehold, NJ on Sunday, Dec 1st.
Each year Chabad and the Raceway Mall team up to present an exciting Chanukah program that is fun, educational and hands-on. Stitching on Rainbow Looms has become the recent Hobby fad for children lately.
Kids (and kids at heart!) participated in the construction of the giant creative Menorah, made from 110 looms by connecting thousands of bands, in a specific design. The specific design and color scheme was planned by the young Shluchos Esty Schapiro and Riva Rochel Chazanow.
“We are always looking for new ideas to keep the kids at the edge of their seat; the Giant Rainbow-Loom Menorah was perfect!” said Rabbi Avraham Bernstein of Chabad. “The program has always been very popular with parents because kids come and learn about the holiday in an interactive way, and the kids love it because they really have a lot of fun.”
In addition to the Giant Menorah construction, this year’s program also featured Chanukah arts & crafts, where each child made their own Chanukah Rainbow bracelet, edible menorahs, sand art and tissue paper draidels, as well as live holiday music, dancing and delicious Chanukah treats.
A Mivtzoim table display attracted many participants, and several passersby put on Tefillin.
‘Chanukah at the Mall’ is a project of Chabad of Western Monmouth County, NJ.
